Thanks to everyone for finding your way to my blog. I’m still trying to negotiate my way through all this, with a big assist from Heather Irwin of the Bite Club. (By the way, I’ve tentatively agreed to write a food review from the road one of these days.)
Coach Mike Nolan just met with the scribes (and a few cameras) for his typical Wednesday morning media briefing.
Andy Reid, the gruff coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, joined us on a conference call this morning. He kept his answers short, concise and to the point. He was followed by rookie receiver DeSean Jackson.
Since the arrivals of Mike Nolan and Scot McCloughan in 2005, the 49ers have chosen eight players in the first or second rounds of the draft.
Running back Frank Gore and linebacker Patrick Willis are two young guys who are turning into leaders in the 49ers’ locker room. But neither had much to say after the team’s loss to the Patriots on Sunday.
Coach Mike Nolan held his usual Monday press conference, and spoke about Sunday’s 30-21 loss to the Patriots. Among the topics he discussed was tight end Vernon Davis, who was again held without a catch.
Whatever the 49ers are doing defensively, it’s just not working. * * * From the pages of Monday’s Press Democrat . . . “Patriots play keep away, overwhelm 49ers” and “Niners retire Steve Young’s No. 8.” And, there’s also the Q&A with Steve Young at the Cohn Zohn. * * *
The 49ers jumped out to leads of 7-0 and 14-7, and then disappeared
Check here early and often for all the updates from the 49ers-Patriots game today at Candlestick.
When the schedule came out, you could mark this one down as a 49ers loss. Now, things look a lot different. The Patriots aren’t nearly as imposing without QB Tom Brady. * * * Tomorrow has not yet arrived, but tomorrow’s paper has. Here’s my article, “Martz’s deep pass routes testing offensive line.” * * *
Pass-rusher Tully Banta-Cain was among the last 49ers to leave the locker room Sunday in New Orleans. That’s unique because Banta-Cain did not even suit up for the game.
Niners defensive coordinator Greg Manusky talks about the 49ers’ different defenses.
There are no changes to the 49ers’ injury report. LB Manny Lawson, T Jonas Jennings and CB Shawntae Spencer are still out.
Running back Frank Gore will be a busy man on Sunday against the Patriots. Gore leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 412 yards 525 yards in four games. He’ll undoubtedly be the focus of Bill Belichick’s defense.
You think the Patriots are going to be prepared to face the 49ers on Sunday?
Linebacker Manny Lawson will not play in Sunday’s game against the Patriots due to a hamstring strain, 49ers coach Mike Nolan said today.
The Patriots are next up for the 49ers, and coach Bill Belichick this morning held his conference call with Bay Area reporters
Looking back at Sunday’s 49ers game, there were seven plays (or sequences) that sealed their fate.
I was on a 7:45 a.m. flight out of New Orleans this morning, so I was unable to get back in time for coach Mike Nolan’s press conference. * * * Here are my articles for today’s Press Democrat: “Lost in New Orleans” and “Deuce gets loose.” * * *
The final score was 31-17. It was not a pretty sight today here at the Superdome. Coach Mike Nolan didn’t pull any punches. He said everyone played poorly. He said every aspect of the team, including the coaching, deserves blame for this one.
