The NFL schedule is coming

The NFL can’t guarantee there will be a 2011 season, but it is offering this assurance: It will soon release next season’s complete schedule of may-or-may-not-be-played games.

As Pro Football Talk first reported Tuesday, the NFL will unveil its regular-season schedule in mid-April. In past years, the league has first unveiled the opening-week, prime-time games along with the Thanksgiving Day matchups during the league meetings, which are scheduled for next week in New Orleans. That didn’t happen last year as the schedule wasn’t released until late April.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an e-mail this morning that the league hasn’t finalized how it will roll out the schedule this year.

Here are the 49ers’ 2011 opponents:

HOME: Arizona, Seattle, St. Louis, Cleveland, Dallas, New York Giants, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay.

AWAY: Arizona, Seattle, St. Louis, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Detroit, Philadelphia, Washington.

Note: Some intriguing matchups in Dallas (it’s the Cowboys), Pittsburgh (it’s the Steelers), Seattle (Harbaugh vs. Carroll), Baltimore (Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh) and, maybe, Cincinnati or Philadelphia (Carson Palmer or Kevin Kolb vs. their old teams?)
