Three Niners on Fox’s Overpaid-Underpaid list

Alex Marvez of Foxsports.com, and president of the Pro Football Writers of America, compiled his All-Overpaid and All-Underpaid teams of 2008.

There are three 49ers on the list. It was good to see that neither Justin Smith nor Nate Clements made the All-Overpaid list, because I think the 49ers have gotten what they expected from those players.

With all the positive press that Vernon Davis is getting, I’m sure there will be some arguments about his inclusion on the All-Overpaid list. However, I’m in agreement that a tight end who is chosen No. 6 overall should have better numbers in the passing game.

Of course, Davis can only do what he’s asked to do. There’s no denying he works hard and plays with a lot of enthusiasm. The reason Davis is considered overpaid is because of the way he is being used. Blocking tight ends do not command the kind of dollars he is earning.

There probably won’t be much debate about Jonas Jennings on the All-Overpaid Team, nor linebacker Parys Haralson on the All-Underpaid Team. Haralson is really coming on strong. He is three sacks away from becoming the first 49ers player to record 10 sacks in a season since Andre Carter in 2002.
