Who do you think is the best quarterback prospect in the draft?
I am not fond of the consensus No.1 QB prospect, Geno Smith. He had a hot start to the 2012 season, defenses adjusted to him and then his performance went south. He’s being overrated because he can run a 4.5 40-yard dash and has experience playing in the Pistol formation.
I believe the best QB prospect in the draft is Tyler Wilson from the University of Arkansas. Based on his junior season tape, he has serious potential. That year he passed for 3,638 yards, 24 TDs and just 6 interceptions.
His senior season was a travesty. His head coach, Bobby Petrino, got fired. The team lost several players and there was general dysfunction within the entire Arkansas football program.
Wilson has a good delivery and fluid movement in the pocket, although he isn’t a freak athlete like Colin Kaepernick. Wilson is more of a prototypical pocket passer, but he has more mobility than Matt Barkley and Mike Glennon, and definitely more than Ryan Nassib.
I believe Wilson is a better prospect than the quarterback who preceded him at Arkansas and got drafted by the Patriots in the third round of the 2011 draft – Ryan Mallett.
Yahoo NFL columnist Les Carpenter thinks Wilson has a good chance to get drafted in the first round. To read Carpenter’s article, click here.
