Week 7 grades: Coaching

SAN FRANCISCO – The 49ers beat the Seahawks 13-6. Here are the grades for the 49ers’ coaches.

Coaching: A. The story of this game is the offensive adjustments Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman made at halftime. They only called 10 rushing plays in the first half – not enough – and as a result the 49ers were losing by three at halftime. In the second half, the 49ers ran the ball down the Seahawks’ throat with traps and whams the Seahawk’s No.2-ranked run defense couldn’t handle. Harbaugh confirmed this after the game, saying “We ran a few traps and had them in the right look.”

The Seahawks coaches, on the other hand, did not adjust. On defense they couldn’t stop the traps and whams, and on offense they could not come up with any play-action passes to complement their running game. Credit Harbaugh’s crew for making the adjustments Pete Carroll’s bunch did not.
