SANTA CLARA — It’s very early in training camp, and I’m no expert, but the undrafted rookie wide receiver from Northern Illinois, Nathan Palmer, is good. He may be better than A.J. Jenkins right now. Palmer caught five passes today by my count, including one 50-yard reception in a seven-on-seven drill. In a one-on-one drill he beat Pro Bowl cornerback Carlos Rogers. After the play, Rogers walked over to Palmer and shook his hand.
Reserve wide receiver Brett Swain had a good practice, too. He was four-for-four in the one-on-one drill. He even beat starting cornerback Tarell Brown twice.
Justin Smith looked like a monster on the field. He knocked two backup offensive linemen off their feet and onto their backs – Daniel Kilgore and Derek Hall. Even the best offensive linemen in football struggle with Smith. Backups have almost no chance to contain him.

If anyone questions why JH doesn’t want the Cohns around, here’s your answer: 1. they tell the league who to claim on waivers; & 2. they are haters.
I take this to mean our secondary is still suspect and our protection for Smith is still MIA.
I wouldn’t worry read that far into it. JS routinely threw around pro bowl O linemen last year, his abuse of our second teamers and guys who won’t even make the team isn’t anything to be alarmed about.
Brent Swain great in practice, non – existant in a real game.
+1
I have to pull for Nathan Palmer to make this team. He’s from my home town.
Sounds like we need to keep on the final roster if he keeps impressing so we don’t lose him to another team.
Grant,
Were they in pads today?
Yes they were in pads today and Att you need to pay attention a bit more before you try and criticize. Justin smith was going up against our 2nd string offense not our 1st string and aklot of the catches were made on 7 on 7 drills where theres no pass rush. Relax.
That was supposed to say Matt
