49ers-Giants matchups: Part V – Crabtree vs. Webster

The 49ers play the Giants on Sunday at Candlestick. In the meantime, I’ll break down a couple of key matchups per day.

WR Michael Crabtree vs. CB Corey Webster

Crabtree is having an excellent season – he’s on pace to catch 90 passes and gain about 1,000 yards.

But on Sunday he has to face Corey Webster, who absolutely shut him down last season. In two games he held Crabtree to two catches for 24 yards.

I expect Crabtree to get revenge on Sunday for two reasons: 1. He’s improving, and 2. Webster’s declining.

Crabtree couldn’t separate from Webster last season. This season, Crabtree is faster and stronger while Webster, who turned 30 in March, has lost a step. As a result, he’s given up three touchdowns in five games.

Advantage: 49ers

  1. old coach says:

You’re right Grant I believe crabtree’s foot limited his speed untill this year. he is very much a different player.

    • angusinCanada says:

He started becoming a force the second half of last season (NFCCG excluded), but this year, he’s totally healthy, and starting to really show why he was a blue chip prospect. He’s always been a great blocker, which I really dig.

  2. Neal says:

Anybody concern with our Special Teams, that is one area where we got worse than better. Akers is not automatic and a couple of big returns from opposing teams.

    • Sean in Canada says:

I hear you, Neal. Special teams has taken a step back, especially the coverage teams.

    • Sean in Canada says:

I should’ve added that I’m not concerned with Akers or Lee. The coverage teams are struggling and Ginn looks rusty.

      • Neal says:

I agree Sean, also Ginn is not returning kick offs, just punts. Lee is great still, Akers is a little off but I am good with him. The tackling is poor in some area.

    • MidWestNiner says:

Special teams is a HUGE concern. Aside from Williams, Lee, Akers, and Jennings this group lacks the quality it had last year.

    • Mood_Indigo says:

Wonder why Spillman is playing so poorly. Is he hurt, or is missing Costanzo and Jones? Or is because he got paid?

    • Leo says:

You’re definitely right there. I ST has declined substantially.

To be honest we have declined in the 2 phases of the game that we absolutley dominated last year, ST and defense, which we all pretty much new we couldn’t keep that pace. However, we have also drastically improved offensively, which explains our continuous success.
Man can’t wait for this game!

      • claude balls says:

        @ Leo:

The defense is ranked No. 1 in terms of points allowed and No. 2 in terms of yards allowed. How is that a decline?

      • DS94everXev says:

They aren’t getting the turnovers like last year. And they had their worst game in the JH era allowing 3 TD drives of 80+ yards in Minnesota. I don’t know if we allowed many more than that (80+ yard TD drives) in all of last year.

But the past 2 weeks, nobody can play better.

      • MauiDave says:

The D is as good as ever, ST has allowed a few returns but all around is better than most with Akers & Lee. I’d say a slight decline but the season is still young and Seely is one of the best ST coaches so no worries there.

  3. Razoreater says:

Mr. Crabs looks like he has stickum all over his gloves. He looks like a man possessed in YAC. He’s a blocking machine. I’ll take his meaty claws over Webster.

  4. Nick says:

    NY Defense: 8 ints, 8 TDs against, 62.6% Comp against, 372.8 Yds/G, 22.2 Pts/G
    SF Defense: 5 ints, 5 TDs against, 59.9% Comp against, 262.6 Yds/G, 13.6 Pts/G

    NY Offense: 30.4 Pts/G, 6.5 Yds/play
    SF Offense: 29.8 Pts/G, 6.4 Yds/play

The NY and SF offenses are nearly equivalent statiscally (based on points scored and yardage gained). The Niners have a clear advantage defensively.

    • DS94everXev says:

      Interesting note there Nick

Both teams have given up the same number of TD’s as they have Int’s.

And good defense beat good offense. See the GB/Detroit/Buffalo game. The Jets just suck at pretty much everything. The Vikings have a decent defense. But we just blew that game.

    • ninermd says:

Good post Nick, but here’s where stats don’t mean anything. Our offensive stats were built on two of the worst defenses in the league. After this game will be a true in season measuring stick IMO…. Because its doubtful we will put up those numbers against NY. Smith had his breakout game last season against these guys. Lets hope for an even better game Sunday. I am so pulling for Alex I’m this game. To put ANY doubt to bed. I’m sick of hearing the arguements and inconsistency at the qb position. If he lights them up….. Talk should and would be OVER!!! ;-)

      • undercenter says:

        MD

True those stats were from weak defensive teams. Thats one of the differences this year. We are blowing out teams that we are suppose too. Last year all of our games but one were close. To me thats a clue that the team on offense is much better. Beat the sh*t out of the weak teams and win the close games with better teams.

      • MidWestNiner says:

Smith will throw two touchdowns and rush another one in against the Giants.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Mid, good to see you back! I’ve missed your reads!!

      • f49er says:

        You’re right MD

Stats don’t mean anything, you can throw all that out the window come Sunday.

That’s why I’m as confident as ever that the 49ers are going to make another Statement on Sunday and THUMP the Giants.

      • Ed from AZ says:

Last year, the Giants were coming in real high on themselves because they were 6-0 and SF was 5-1. They came off a thrilling victory, but came up short in SF. I’m hoping for the same scenario:

        SF 27 NYG 23

      • MauiDave says:

The G Men have played 3 really weak teams as well with the Browns, Bucs and Panthers and then the Cowboys and Eagles who are decent to good and lost both games scoring only 17 in each. Their O doesn’t scare me and I think we will pound their D. Niners 31 NY 21

    • MidWestNiner says:

Thanks Hof. I had a medical issue to deal with. That and my Android gave up the ghost, so the past two weeks weren’t the greatest. Good thing I had had great Niner news to comfort me. lol. Btw Grant, congrads on not jinxing the team this past week with your blowout prediction. It actually came true!!!

  5. DS94everXev says:

MC I hope has had this game on circled with big arrows pointing to it I hope since the schedule was released. While beating the crap out of Webster in this game won’t make up for his bad game in the playoffs, this does serve as a nice band-aid to that wound.

I hope to see the Niners give that extra bit of effort in this game to get MC loose and give him the ball.

    • AES* says:

      DS,

Same should apply to AS, hmmm remember 1-13 on first down?

Thought I could help you to see beyond MC’ shortcomings bud (lol).

      • Prime Time says:

We’ve seen Alex step up in big games, now it’s Crabtree’s turn. This could finally be his breakout game.

      • DS94everXev says:

        AES

        1. 3rd downs are a team (unit) stat. Not a QB stat. Was it AS who converted on 3rd down vs Detroit on that critical drive or MC who caught them? It is a unit stat AES. You need to blame MC just as much for that stat. Get with it.

        2. Alex threw 2TD’s. One more TD than MC had receptions. Somehow you forgot that. You always do.

        3. I’ve written plenty about MC since the season started. If you can’t figure out my opinion, I’m not shocked. I’ve flat out said it a lot. You complain, but never read my posts.

        4. I thought you said your IGNORE button had my name on one end?

See ya never again when that option becomes available.

PS Adding “lol” to every post renders it meaningless. Just something to keep in mind in future dealings with others.

      • Prime Time says:

DS this is why everyone is so bitter with you, you keep providing knowledgeable, concise football facts. Shame on you!

      • DS94everXev says:

It’s an issue I have Prime.

      • ninermd says:

Lol oooooohhhhhhhh Nooow! That you bring up 3rd downs it has nothing to do with just Alex…. But wins do. Classic bs

    • AES* says:

BTW, DS. Aside from the little customary cheap shots directed at MC every now and then, and your rants about him over the summer. What is your opinion of him now?

    • Crab15 says:

DS – I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Crabtree has better stats than last game vs Giants.
Moss needs a TD very badly. He needs to be thrown to on first and 2nd and goal rather than the failing runs up the middle.
The play calling inside the ten yard line has been stenchy.

      • DS94everXev says:

        C15

“I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Crabtree has better stats than last game vs Giants.”

        You risk taker you!
        :- )

Last week we were 4/5 in the redzone. I don’t think RM is the WR we hoped for in the redzone man. He has displayed no leaping ability. That throw to him in the Vikings game….he jumps more than 3″ off the ground he makes that catch and we get some points off that drive.

I think we have something going really well with our current rotation of WR’s. MM is coming on strong. MC looks faster. KW is a guy I’ve been rooting all offseason for. RM is good for opening up the defense for MC to catcunderneathunderneth and get lots of YAC. I see that as his main role.

  6. angusinCanada says:

I’d like to see some WR screens to Crabtree. (When’s the last time we called a wr screen…or any screen now that I think of it??) I really think he’s a superior talent, a lot stronger than he looks, faster than he appears, and can dominate when put in 1-on-1 with a defender situations. If you can’t tell, I’m really jazzed about crabs.

    • Crab15 says:

angus – You have impeccable intelligence, that HoferFan dude will tell you that you must be confusing Crabtree with Kyle Williams, Josh Morgan (former Niner) or Mario Manningham. Lol

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Crab, my bro, must I post a link of MCs college days on his game speed versus NFL game speed? He’s doing well so I’ll cool the criticism for now. : )

  7. Razoreater says:

Could Eli be a bit apprehensive after the physical pounding he took the last time he played the 49ers? I say yes.

  8. 49erGirl says:

They’ll have to account for Manningham, Moss, and Williams – should give Crabtree some extra wiggle room to get loose. The entire WR core is improved over last year – their secondary shouldn’t be able to shut them out like they did in the NFC Championship game.

Alex has also improved and will find more ways to get them involved in the offense.

I think Harbaugh is doing a little game playing with Alex’s finger injury – making NY spend extra time game planning for both Alex and Kaep. Possibly with the hopes they will not have time to cover some other minute details that Harbaugh will find a way to exploit during the game :-)

    • ninermd says:

There isn’t anything wrong with smiths finger. You hit the nail on the head. It’s harbhead games. That’s all it is.

    @DS
Exactly! A unit stat! A knowledgable football person would stop putting the blame on one person.
But if you want to throw blame around for that game, you could definitely name more than MC only.

Your condenscending posts that MC should have this day marked on his calendar says volumes of your MC feelings.

So much for the ‘unit’ huh?

    • DS94everXev says:

      IGNORE BUTTON PLEASE.

This issue, you said was done. You said you’d stop with it. Again with the flip-flop.

      Ignore him DS. Just ignore.

    • ninermd says:

Lol you got ds talking to itself now. It’s gotta suck to post 100 times a day. Because they always seem to come back and bite ds in the rear. It’s not easy being a cheesy hypocrite. You’re down to one fan now ds. Keep talking eventually, you’ll bury yourself. Hanging by a thread. Lol

      • DS94everXev says:

The same one who said he wasn’t going to name call and treat others with respect.

He learns from his buddy 23 how to keep promises. Hating somebody who holds the same notion that he says he now does…not buying it for a second.

  10. Hoferfan67 says:

On NFL.com they are calling AS the “Golden Boy”! Good times!!

    • claude balls says:

      @ Hofer:

Did it cause Jamie Dukes a ruptured aneurysm?

      • ninermd says:

Lol dukes and baldinger are 49er and Alex smith haters. What’s new?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        Claude,

It’s interesting because when they had JM on with TGreen and JDukes a couple of years ago, JDukes called JM the “Godfather” of QBs and TGreen asked if he could kiss JMs ring. LOL I see where JDukes is coming from but now that they crowned MRyan “elite” it’s all a potpourri of whatever. I’ve never liked MR. Something about him seems geekish to me! Meh!

      • MidWestNiner says:

Hey now Hof. Geek is the new chic. Just be glad he isn’t wearing those crazy frames like the basketball players are currently.

      • rocket says:

Baldinger has actually come around in recent months and is giving them some respect. Dukes is still stuck in neutral. The other day Paul Burmeister actually got him to admit Smith is playing at a pro bowl level right now. Never thought I’d see that.

Smith right now is in the same position Steve Young was after taking over for Montana – and no I’m not comparing their skill levels. The similarities come in that nobody believed Young could lead the team to a Championship and so the great performances he had during the regular season were overlooked for a long time. Smith hasn’t been as impressive obviously, but he’s had some very good performances that aren’t being played up as much because nobody thinks he can win a SB. The only way he’ll get everybody off his back is to win the Championship.

    • Mood_Indigo says:

      Is that a Seinfeld reference ? :)

  11. ninermd says:

This is my only bold prediction for Sundays game, are you ready?………………. Moss will join the party. BIG TIME on Sunday.

    • MidWestNiner says:

Here’s mine MD: The Niners D will have four sacks AND interceptions against the Giants.

  12. 23jordan/Alex is Elite! says:

Why are the giants just waiting to lose this damn game! They can’t hit to save their lives!!!

  13. Sean in Canada says:

Grant, question for you to ask coach or maybe you know the answer. Do they script the first 15 plays or so? I know it was done back in the day and it might be a little too much information for coach to divulge but it just popped into my head today.

  14. Crab15 says:

Hell ya! Giants win 2-1! Still alive……sit your ass down fat lady!

  15. SourdoughSam says:

Bought crabs rookie card hope this week he makes me value it more than jj stokes rookie card

  16. MidWestNiner says:

I like Crabtree in this rematch. He should have another good day. The two wildcards to this scenario is how well Joe Staley protects Alex Smith’s blindside so Smith and Crabtree can connect a lot and what kind of play calling Greg Roman will dial up.

  17. MidWestNiner says:

Msclemon, it’s late, but thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife on her stomach cancer diagnosis.

  18. Neal says:

You Smithers are a very jealous and insecure group, when the Niners were cough cough evaluating Peyton, you were gone from the site for days, headed over to the cheap $10.00 buffet and now you are jealous of Kaep, kind of like two women that go to a party and they are wearing the same dress, one looks younger, thinner, taller, hotter than the other. Let the cat fight begins. Are you really Niner fans or you just want to be AS girlfriends.

    • whatthe says:

? as of right now there has been one mention of Kaep on this page…

“I think Harbaugh is doing a little game playing with Alex’s finger injury – making NY spend extra time game planning for both Alex and Kaep. ”

      hardly seems negative…

    • AngusinCanada says:

      Neal,
I guarantee you there is zero percent chance of Kaep taking Smith’s job in the forseeable future, unless Smith gets hurt. He’s playing very, very well, and is a big part of why the 49′ers have been winning since Harbaugh arrived. And, unless Smith really regresses, he’s not going anywhere via free agency either.

Kaep’s done well and all, but right now, he’s a gimmick accessory to the offence, that’s all. Will he develop into a good qb? I hope so, but who knows, as he’s only thrown about 2 or 3 passes in his entire career.

Kaep’s not, by any stretch of the imagination, a threat to Alex’s status as starting qb of this team. Anyone who is concerned (or hoping, in some cases) that the case is otherwise, is really out of touch with what’s going on.

    • Prime Time says:

Jealous no, Kap is a 49er. I think us “Smithers” are just ecstatic to see Alex play at such a high level now that he has everything a QB needs to win games.
You take Matt Ryan and put him in Alex’s situation 4 years ago, he is probably out of the league right now. For every Alexexcuse we have brought up, seems to be working perfectly now. Coaching, continuity, and surrounding talent, essential to the success of any NFL QB.

    • claude balls says:

      @ Neal:

Quit trolling. There’s no need to be divisive. This is a great time to be a 49ers fan.

    • ribico says:

Jealous of Kaep? WTH? That’s a wierd projection, Neal.

    • niner61 says:

Anybody else see EBranch’s article on Alex yesterday? Interesting stat on Alex since the haters “we want Carr” Mon. nite game against the Eagles 2 yrs ago: 37 TD passes ..8 picks. Not bad for a total bust, then to a decent 2nd string back-up, to a QB that was almost replaced by PManning and now to a soon to be replaced by Kap QB that’s been the starting QB on a team thats won 17 of 21 reg. season games under Harbaugh. LOL If the O-line continues to gel in pass protection, the best pocket in years against the Bills, there could be very little ammo left for the haters to reload with. Some people just can’t stand the success unless it’s their version only. This O is still a work in progress, can’t wait to see what they develop into.

    • Bray says:

Neal-Who and where are these mysterious Smithers? I’ve never seen nor heard one. Are they related to the Artesians? You know the little men who live in womens shirts, when it gets cold outside their noses grow.

I only see 49er fans and finger pointers. Which one are you?

      • Neal says:

Prim Tin Tin and BS, one says Kaep should be traded to a happy passing team, the other gives cheap shots about Kaep, similar to the Crabs situation a couple of months ago. You can’t read everything on here, unless you are BS.

  19. SourdoughSam says:

Neal poor analogy pretty sure both men would kick your a$$ please stop instigating the Alex Smith debate he is the QB deal with it hopefully one day CK takes the reigns until then stop acting like Alex isn’t getting it done givve a man his props quit acting like a jealous school girl in a dress of some sort picking fights

  20. Neal says:

I have been right on Sam, Smithers hate Kaep and I have given Mr. Smith his due. He has played 3 great games, one below average and one poor game. He deserves to be our starting QB.

    • ribico says:

      >>Smithers hate Kaep

And your evidence to back that claim is….?

#1 Smither, JH, puts him the game. Some real hatred going on there.

    • MauiDave says:

I like Smith and Kap…no jealously here. I feel good that if Smith were to get hurt Kap can do a decent job of filling in but Smith is the clear #1 so let’s root for him to maintain his #1 QBR and pile on more W’s.

  21. cantbreakpar says:

Not sure why any fan should dislike Kaep. One more weapon in the arsenal isn’t a bad thing and if makes the opponents spend extra time on game planning for an unknown at the expense of executing base strategy against smith and company, that can only be positive.

    • DS94everXev says:

      @cantbreakpar

Nobody here has. Which post are you reading leading you to think that?

Sub in Alex Smith for CK, and the point is valid. Nobody should be disliking the guy at all who has the best record since 2011 begun.

      • cantbreakpar says:

Not saying anyone dislikes him but pointing out that it is an advantage(to be embraced) having him on the team and contributing.

  22. SourdoughSam says:

CK is better but not ripe yet look how long we had to suffer while alex matured in a system don’t rush a good thing what we have is working as a TEAM let’s not be the forty whiners that bicker amongst fellow Niner fans that has been played out for some time move on already and enjoy the new Gold Rush

    • DS94everXev says:

      Sourdough

Big difference though between AS/CK in this regard. AS had “Go make a play Alex” HC’s in Nolan/Sing. CK is getting the best guy (JH) in the business from the start.

In this case, it isn’t unreasonable to expect CK to develop a lot faster.

      • ribico says:

        >>CK is getting the best guy (JH) and team in the business from the start.

        fixed that for you, DS.

      • DS94everXev says:

        ribico

I think “best organization” is better. That implies best owner/GM/HC/coaching staff/teammates.

What is going on in NY? Have the media gone back to the title game and discussed it? Or have they moved on and are only focuing on this team?

      • ribico says:

Gotta feel sorry for the Giants, they are almost treated like a west coast team out here. The tabloids are focused on the Yankees and the Jets meltdown – increasing Tebow hysteria/circus. The Post had an article quoting Carlo Rogers as saying he was going to out-salsa Cruz or somesuch crap. The Times had an article chronicling Giants defensive falloff this year.

  23. Johnny Rook says:

I think Mario is the WR to have a big game. He is bigger and faster than Crabtree…played for the NYG last year and think Coach H will use that little bit of payback edge to be the go to WR…his talk of Moss is a ruse. It’s MM who will have the big day.

  24. DS94everXev says:

Nice points smartniner. I’d like to add 2 of my own:

    1. AS beat AR during this same stretch of games.

    2. Careful. You brought up the dreaded CK deep pass. This blog spent several hundred posts on it. Which isn’t close to the record of 500+ on the AS not throwing it to RM in a pre-season game with the dire outcome that has followed (4-1) as a result.

    @Crab

Yes Sir! Time for Zito to shine.
I expect the Giants to score some big runs on Weds. No way the Reds pitching is this good. Our boys are due to break out of their hitting slump and unleash an offensive explosion.
    Giants 7
    Reds 3

  26. Razoreater says:

*caveat* “Second, on one of Kaeps only passes of the year, he threw the ball into triple coverage. Fortunately, it wasn’t intercepted, but it was a poor display of decision-making”. The ball hit Moss in his hands and he dropped it. I have no problem with the decision or the throw.

    • old coach says:

moss made that play close it was a terrible decision

      • Brotha Tuna says:

Coach- What I think I saw on that play is that Moss was open and Kap under threw the pass. RM had to wait for it, giving the defenders time to get close to the ball, Moss outleaped them. If CK gets that ball another 3 yards longer that’s 6. Does that square with your memory?

      • old coach says:

My memory [which is very questionable] of the play is moss had double coverage a cb with a safety over the top. they had him bracketed. kaep hung the ball up so long a third db was able to make a play on the ball. moss did a great job to come back split the defenders and get his hands on the ball. i believe it was a poor decision on kaeps part but thats not to say that i do’nt absolutley love kaeps upside in the future and what moss showed me on that play was if he gets single coverage we should be throwing the ball up to him. he can still go up and get it.

      • old coach says:

@ brothatuna did you ever read paper lion its a great football book by george plimpton and alex karras is featured heavily in it. its a very funny book.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

Coach. Yes I did, when it first came out, (to date myself, LOL!). I saw a teaser article in a magazine and went out and got the book. On my tight teenager budget, that meant I couldn’t buy any 45rpm records that week! That’s about the time I descended into football nerdism for good.

      • DS94everXev says:

        old coach

Had it been Revis, that is an Int. The CB allowed RM to get his hands on the ball. Had he attacked the ball, RM never touches it.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

Yup, with you on your take. Moss still gots some wheels to go with the leaping, too! I was appalled at the moment CK let that go though, & it looked like a sure pick halfway through the flight of the ball.
        An intriguing glimpse though.

      • Ed from AZ says:

I think Harbaugh said it was the right read, and he meant “right read” in that the intent was to get the defense to understand that Kaep was willing to go deep rather than just run on every snap he got.

      • Jacktoo says:

No. Moss was bracketed deep, shallow and to one side by three defenders. It was a poor decision. Yes, I would have liked to see Randy make the catch, but he did a good job becoming the defender and making sure it wasn’t intercepted. No amount of spin will make that throw “a good decision” in a JH offense. I’m hoping that KC can develop into a starting qb over the next four or five years.

You should, it was underthrown, and into triple coverage. Terrible, terrible decision.

  27. AES* says:

    Smart,

Except for a couple people who have brought up the idea of CK taking AS’ job there really is not an overwhelming populace that feels that way.

I’m a huge CK fan having followed him since his high school days in Turlock, but I’ll be the first to say that he is not ready to take over as a starting QB for any significant number of games and certainly not an entire season.

CK7 is the perfect change-of-pace player at the moment. Nothing more, nothing less.
    AS is safe…

    • BigP says:

They are developing him, which is a positive. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Smith had his best game after Kaepernick started to get more playing time. Iron sharpens iron.

      • bayareafanatic says:

        Yes sir….

      • rocket says:

Agreed BigP. Competition either brings out the best or makes them wilt. Either way it answers questions and in this case we are seeing Smith step up and Kap slowly being developed and being allowed to use the incredible athleticism he has. I love what they are doing with Kap. It’s the perfect way imo to give him exposure without risking his confidence getting beaten down.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

@ BigP Dwight Clark said he thought so too. DC said he found himself working harder and healing faster when John Taylor showed up.

      • AES* says:

Love that bible verse. And apparently Harbaugh does as well since he’s used it quit a bit himself.

Harbaugh is bringing CK along at the perfect pace. I’m still waiting for the game where the defense is completely fooled when CK actually drops back and throws a perfect deep pass for a TD.

CK7′ next level will require two things:
        1. Passing with accuracy
        2. Reading NFL defenses

I don’t believe that Harbaugh will allow CK to be type-cast into one-trick pony (running). Asking CK to be a runner only diminishes his growth and future potential.

  28. old coach says:

My prediction for sunday. Gore for 80 yards, Hunter for 50 yards, Jacobs for 30 yards, Kaep for 30 yards and smith for 20 for a grand total of 210 yards on the ground. smith will be 17 for 21 for 200 yards 1 td final score niners 20 giants 17. niners will win on a last second akers field goal.

  29. Brotha Tuna says:

On another note: RIP Alex Karras; one tough hombre. It was mentioned he was a Heisman runner-up.
As good as his career was, I can’t help it, I’ll always remember him as Mungo in Blazing Saddles, slugging that horse and knocking it down.

Alex is on fire. So what it was the division V Buffalo Bison. Alex is Elite. Do what all the deep balls were dead ducks. That one he dropped in to VD was the best pass in football history. Alex is better than Peyton Manning and Eli Manning put together. Alex Smith is hands down, the best QB in the NFL. He is easily a pro bowler.
Alex deserves a new $18 million a year deal for 5 years! He should get that contract today!!! He’s in his prime. He is the franchise! Pay the man. Without Smith, where would this team be? Where would this franchise be? We are nothing without you Alex!
Alex is taking us to the promised land! Alex is an expert! Make your Super Bowl reservations now! I’m so proud of you Alex. I voted for you to be FedEx player of the week! 2 times, I think! Go Alex, The Franchise!!

This is weak. Just chill out and watch the season unfold instead of trying to predict Smith’s implosion date. We saw one of the greatest offensive performances in league history last week and you are here going bi polar over the QB. Give it a rest for a few days.

About as funny as doublediscountcheckdown that we heard incessently for days. Jordo is like that annoying guy we all know who laughs at his own bad jokes. And too self-involved to notice no one else is laughing.

discountdoublecheckdown was damn funny. C’mon man it had all the elements, it was creative, clever, and relative. Whether u agree or not (I dont) U gotta admit its more original than calling AS, precious or refering to him as “she” With all the hate and BS that frequently flies around here U have to give kudos to something witty

        Bos,

Appreciate the props. The hate is beyond reproach on this blog. I enjoy these guys up here. Unless it gets too personal, I’m good with it. It’s a football blog. It’s not life or death. None of us get paid for this.
Some of these guys actually think I’m miserable. Nobody enjoys this blog more than I do. I don’t post in the fashion in which I do for the attention. Some of these clowns take the blog too seriously.
Rocket, I’m having a great time. Stay true to you and stop getting yourself goaded into crossingbthe line. You’re starting to carry yourself like a Smither now. However, that’s okay because until after the game Sunday, I’m one too.
I can’t wait to see if Smith can play a decent game Sunday. Because I’m a Smither, I expect a 300 yard game. But I have the Alexcuse ready in case he craps all over the field. Remember, his finger is hurt.
Can you imagine how much worse those ducks he threw last week were affected by a sore middle finger. He’d be throwing punts all over everywhere!
Go Alex. I’m with you bro. Go Niners. Alex is aHall of famer!

        Ear of the beholder.

        >>Because I’m a Smither, I expect a 300 yard game.

Fake Smither outed. Real “smithers” don’t expect any number of yards. They do expect him to to play smart, turnover-free football in context of the overall game plan.

      • 23jordan/Alex is Elite! says:

        Ribico,

I’m a new breed of Smither. One that believes that Alex Smith is Elite. I believe Alex is A hall of Famer! I’m a Smither until Sunday at 1:00. then it will be up to Alex to show us what he has. I got him crapping all over the field this Sunday. Remember, a real defense is showing up. A front 4 that he’s scared to death of. A front 4 that made him flee the pocket and only throw one completion to a wide receiver last year. A front 4 that Elite Alex believes is ELITE! I think we will see if Alex is for real next Sunday. I think he’s throwing for 350 yards!

I call it as I see it, and it’s getting old. You are trying too hard to get a rise out of people now. You missed a pretty incredible game last week while waiting for Smith to fail.

      • Prime Time says:

Rib, does not sound like welcher is trying to post to gain attention now does it? Must be childhood thing, crying til someone notices you.

        Ribico,

I think it’s you who lacks the attention yon need little fella. Maybe Akex will give it to you.

        Rocket,
I enjoyed the game immensely. I saw the plays Smith made against the mighty Buffalo Bison. He was amazing against a defense that is the worst in football. Let’s bet a week on off the blog that he doesn’t even have 230 yards this week passing.
A tiger doesn’t change his SPOTS! alex Smith is my hero. However, he is average and always will be. Those clowns that think he turned the corner last week, you’ve thought that way about him at least 10 times before. Why now?
Take a look at those passes he threw deep. ONe tight spiral. Those passes won’t even get to the receivers without being defenses against a quality defense. I’d love to see Crabtree get as open as he was. Unfortunately, that is the only reason he got that pass. I wasn’t to see Smith be as accurate as he was last week when he got a chance to throw and put up stats in the 7 on 7 passing league against the buffalo bison. It was a fluke.
I would’ve been more worried if Smith had not put up decent numbers against the Bills. Especially after what Brady did to the Bills the week before.
Alex Smith was a pro bowler for a week. He will shed the cape and show up as AVERAGE ALES SMITH again this week. MR. Discount doublecheckdown is baaaaaaack.
Let’s see if JH can hold his hand this week and guide him through the giants D- line. Careful not to squeeze it while holding it. He has a sole finger. Alexcuse #171.

Dr. BS- The only thing I hate about this blog is that your dumb azz is still here. Got any stupid medical advice for prime? He’s got a broken heart. He misses oneniner! Bwahahahahahahah!

        Crabs,

I’m more impressed with Timmy! We needed those innings from him. I figure it was too much for Zito. He needs 7 runs in the 1st 2 innings to be efffective!
