  1. Jack Hammer says:

Cleveland – Holmgren is leaving. New GM will want his guy

Buffalo – Gailey is an offensive guy with no clue on defense.

KC – Same as above, know defense not offense

Cincinnati – Seems to always be on hot seat, and not meeting expectations after last years playoff run.

Philadelphia – Another disappointing year, and firing his DC in middle of year shows he is on the hot seat.

New York Jets – Ryan is a defensive guy whose defense is bad. He has no clue on offense, and it seems as though Sparano doesn’t know much more.

    • philly9er says:

      Good list Jack.
I’d probably add the Chargers & maybe Carlina if they continue to play bad too.

    • Nick says:

      How about Schiano in Tampa?

      • 23jordan/ Smith's days are numbered!! says:

No way, he just got there. He’s also changed the mentality of that team. They are much more agressiv and they play with pride and they fight.

    • MidWestNiner says:

I thin Marvin Lewis is safe in Cincinnati. He’s been able to keep his position despite some really horrid seasons there. But then again, maybe the owner will finally decided that enough is enough. TBD.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Marvin Lewis’s job is safe as long as he doesn’t ask for a raise. Quickest way out of the tiger pit is to ask the miser owner to open up his pocket book.

      • MidWestNiner says:

I think he received a new deal two years ago Coffee. Asking for a raise right now would constitute career suicide.

    • dangle says:

My Number one pick would be Norv and the chargers. I can’t fathom how he has held onto his job for this long already. One more mediocre season and he is toast.

  2. DS94everXev says:

Raiders. They always say they will stick with the plan and the guy. Till they do, I won’t beleive them.

I think our division is safe HC wise for now. Only coach I can see getting fired is AZ. He’s supposed to be a good offensive coach, right? Well, their offense sucks. They may want to get another “offensive” guy in there and see what he can do to match that defense of theirs.

Cleveland I think is in trouble. Holmgren is leaving as GM after just a few years. Way to stick it to the franchise you dork. New GM’s almost always mean new HC and coaching philosophy. The current Browns players…hope they didn’t sign any 2 year leases.

Buffalo is in trouble. They actually thought they were good. What a joke. First they gave Fitzpatrick a ton of money after a few great games last year, and then immediately lost most of their reamaining games. Then they sign the highest paid DL FA ever, and they still suck. The HC is in trouble.

KC is in the same boat. That HC is disgusting in how he treats his QB. Guy can’t make up his mind. He actually deserves to be canned.

    • Jack Hammer says:

      How so DS?

      • 23jordan/ Smith's days are numbered!! says:

BS, You are clueless. you know nothing about this game. You should just read the blog and not post. You might learn something.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Jack

        How so what?

The teams you have listed are pretty close to my list.

      • Crab15 says:

23J – Here we go again bro, game 2 is on!! Go Giants!!
Can Panda possibly go deep again???
I predict Pence finally does something tonight.

      • Nick says:

        Crab
Have you checked out Pence’s at bats? Dude can’t hit a curve ball if his life depended on it. What I don’t understand is why he’s using a choke grip on the bat. That limits your power. Dude must not too confident at this point.

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS, “KC is in the same boat. That HC is disgusting in how he treats his QB.”

Why is it disgusting? Cassell went down with a concussion, and he had to make a switch.

      • Crab15 says:

        Nick -He’s due.

      • DS94everXev says:

Prior to the season, I was checking out other news stories for other teams.

And there was a blog (forgot which one) which described how the HC/GM kept going back and forth about whether they want Cassell as the QB. It was musical chairs. One minute they make a statement that they do, the next they don’t. And it just repeated itself over and over. Like the AS debate here.

Think of it like Mike Nolan and Sing rolled up into one. Now I don’t think Cassell is as good as AS. But the way that organization is jerking him around, he’ll never know how good he can be.

For that alone, I think they should be fired.

By the way, the fans reaction to that concussion….disgusting to the nth degree. Uncalled for. All “fans” who did that should be banned for life from attending any NFL or even sports game.

No way to enforce that, but they shouldn’t be allowed to take up seats which could be occupied by a decent human being.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        Crab, what are you drinking??

      • Hoferfan67 says:

DS, go rest. Tomorrow is another day and another day Jordo is WRONG! Bbaawwahhhaahhhaawwaahhaa!

      • Nick says:

I’d move Pence and Belt to 7th and 8th in the batting order. They’re not doing much and – like Alex Smith – killing scoring opportunities :)

      • Crab15 says:

Hofe – Nothing’s changed bro, having some cold Lagunitas IPA’s and burgers with these two old friends.
        http://junkfoodnews.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/BBQ_Pair_Stills.000006-1.jpg

      • Crab15 says:

Nick – Pence is making good contact so far……Just sayin…….There’s a chance.

      • neal says:

Jordan, Good one bro.BS is clueless

      • Neal says:

        @ Nick,

Pence can’t hit crap, he did ok today with hit and sacrafice fly, which means that Sabean will give him a 3 year deal for $12 mill each. Rowand money and we saw how that worked out.,

  3. rocket says:

    Likely openings:

    San Diego
    Carolina
    Dallas
    Philadelphia
Indianapolis (Due to the Coach’s health)
    Buffalo

    Possible:

    Cleveland
    Kansas City
    NY Jets

  4. StevenG says:

Some good options above and some bad ones. Allen, Crennel, Schiano aren’t going anywhere. No one fires a first year coach. Even Singletary got nearly 2 years and he was terrible. My predictions:

NY Jets – Rex Ryan has had a bigger mouth than record and his dedication to Sanchez (not that Tebow’s better) will cost him his job.
DAL Cowboys – Garrett’s offenses have been, well, offensive.
CLE Browns – Shurmur is a good coach, but if GM Heckert is out, Shurmur goes too.
PHI Eagles – They’d be stupid to fire Reid, but if they do, he’ll end up in Cleveland.

  5. 23jordan/ Smith's days are numbered!! says:

Somebody take those headphones from Romo!

    • MidWestNiner says:

I don’t think anybody wants to touch Romo unless we have pads on, weight at least 270 lbs., and are in the process of drilling him into the ground.

  6. undercenter says:

If these teams do not turn it around they are gone.

    Cowboys :)
    Eagles
    Bills
    Panthers – thanks Cam
    Chiefs
    Jets
    Chargers

    GO GIANTS

    • Crab15 says:

Under – Remember how many experts were high on the Chiefs after the pre-season?
Turns out they were “high” alright.

      • undercenter says:

        Crab

I remember well, how things quickly change eh.

      • MidWestNiner says:

Hey now. I was right that they would make some noise this year. I just didn’t expect the the to be the sound of a toilet flushing constantly.

  7. Crab15 says:

I told you DS disappears during every Giants game. Odd?

  8. 23jordan/ Smith's days are numbered!! says:

    BS is secretly Barry Zito!

    • Crab15 says:

23J – He’d be the first to say, he’s a left winger. I’m way outnumbered politically in these parts. If I mention Reagan I might get piled on. Niner fans should stick together though.

      • Neal says:

Crabby, left winger here. Don’t go there. !!

      • MidWestNiner says:

In the middle, but I’d rather not disgrace the blog with politics.

      • Worlds greatest man says:

When you say you are left winger what exactly do you mean by that Neal, I personally dislike the two party system and believe both parties can be correct and incorrect on certain issues. If I had to pick a poison I would take Liberatarian, Democrat and Republican Ideals are silly and outdated to me.

      • neal says:

WGM,I am liberal on social issues, more down the middle on other issues.

      • ninermd says:

Really? All of this political talk and nobody cares about the Benghazi cover up? 5 Americans dead and our pres and his cabinet did nothing about it, but blame a man and his video. This should be something both sides of the table should be questioning an outraged about. That’s all I will say about politics. Because this country is a joke right now!

      • undercenter says:

        MD

        +1

      • MidWestNiner says:

        Well said MD.

      • claude balls says:

        @ ninermd:

As badly as you misunderstood the facts regarding the lawsuit to stop the attempted change in Ohio’s early voting laws, I don’t think I can simply accept your presentation of the facts on Libya. Something tells me that things aren’t the way you portrayed them.

You really need to quit letting Fox News bunch up your panties so easily.

      • ribico says:

        >>All of this political talk and nobody cares about the Benghazi cover up

Only d-bags who are continuing to try and make political hay over a tragedy. md, if you fit that bill, then by all means outrage away. Oh, but how about someplace else, like the freeper or breitbart sites, mkay?

      • BOS9er says:

        MD
Not knowing all the facts and speculating on them isnt the same as a cover up. Since there were demonstrations in 18 other muslim countries it was not a stretch to atribute it to the mohamed video. Thats the least of his problems though. Rome is burning and we need somebody to put it out

      • Houston 9er says:

You guys crack me up. You spout out political opinions the same way you spout out football opinions – straight out of your backsides.

      • claude balls says:

Rome is burning and we need somebody to put it out.

Yeah, but it won’t be the arsonists who started the fire.

      • claude balls says:

        @ Houston:

Don’t look at me. ninermd shares your views.

      • Houston 9er says:

Which view is that Claude? That Alex Smith’s poor play is limiting the 49ers offense… Is that the “view” MD shares with me?

      • BOS9er says:

        Claude
Either way, just as long as it gets put out.

      • BOS9er says:

        Houston
If ud care to enlighten us with something better, by all means. Allways nice to talk about something else besides AS

      • claude balls says:

        @ Houston:

Why would you think that? No, it was a reference to shared political views.

      • Houston 9er says:

So Claude you presume to know my political views? Why don’t you enlighten Boston by telling him my views for me.

      • BOS9er says:

        Houston
I sense some hostility, what gives?

      • Houston 9er says:

Well Bos9er I don’t like it when some Delta Bravo pretends to know what I think when they absolutely have no clue whatsoever. But with that brown eyed mullet it’s par for the course.

      • claude balls says:

        @ Houston:

I seem to remember you making more than one derogatory reference to Obama in the past. If I am confusing you with another commenter, I apologize.

      • Houston 9er says:

Nope, that was probably me. I don’t recall posting anything derogatory about Obama but I have formed a strong opinion about his term and his leadership team. I’ve had business dealings with municipalities including the city of Chicago and Cook County. To say that their political environment is a cess pool would be a disparaging remark to cess pools. I hold the entire political class in Chicago in utter contempt. That’s not to say you know anything about my political views. So why don’t you comment about yourself and let me express my views on my own.

      • ninermd says:

Claude you idiot. Roll back that convo and let’s bust out how YOU Mis understood what I was talking about. Or just skip it like you did months ago, try and spin it into a whole other conversation. youre a joke! Fox News? So because I know that Obama is a failure I’m a republican. Ha ha haaa. Yeah Claude they aren’t fighting with each other and pointing fingers at who did what and who knew what. You’re a brainwashed moron. Ill tell you what. I’d watch CNN or abc for this coverage but those liberal stations refuse to talk in depth about it.

And ribico…. A tragedy into politics???? A man is sitting in jail because try claim the terrorist attack was because of his anti Muslim video. Talk about tragedy for a political agenda. Carry on sheep. Ill bet in your news world the economy is bursting with success and unemployment is the lowest ever. Lol liberal media sheep baaaaaa baaaaaa. Oh and Claude those military folk still aren’t happy. And looks like Obama might be losing that state anyways. I’m done. This is why I can’t talk politics with left or right winged whackos. C ya

      • rocket says:

Guys this is not the place to discuss politics and it’s much like the Alex Smith debate anyway: Each side spins it to fit the person or party they support with empty rhetoric and partisan politics being the result. The country is in rough shape and it’s the fault of both parties, but instead of working together to formulate a plan for recovery, most of the time is being spent assessing who is most responsible for the state we are in right now.

      • ribico says:

        >>A tragedy into politics???? A man is sitting in jail because try claim the terrorist attack was because of his anti Muslim video. Talk about tragedy for a political agenda

Umm no, he’s in jail for violating the terms of his probation for an 2010 bank-fraud conviction.

yes, it’s absolutely best to keep politics off this board… if only to prevent you from sounding even more idiotic than you do when talking about football.

      • claude balls says:

        @ninermd:

Nice try at rewriting history. You didn’t understand what the lawsuit was about and your presentation of the facts was wrong in multiple respects. I provided you with the correct facts and gave you a link to show you that you misunderstood what the lawsuit was about.

Because the link didn’t present the facts as you misunderstood them, you claimed that it was the wrong lawsuit and that you were talking about something different, even though there was only one lawsuit about changes to Ohio election law. Then you defiantly professed your love for veterans and declared victory. It was a classic ninermd performance.

I mention Fox News because it was the only network presenting a view of the Ohio lawsuit consistent with what you were claiming. I also suspect that Fox News is the only network presenting a view of Libya consistent with what you are claiming.

      • AngusinCanada says:

No more politics please… Repub’s, democrats, they’re two sides of the same coin, Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, as Helen Keller described them.
We (and I mean Canada and the US here) live in a one-party plutocracy, rule of the wealthy, who make a lot of money off of financial speculation and warmaking. Our economies and societies are falling apart because of it, it’s a tragedy.

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

      • DS94everXev says:

“Repub’s, democrats, they’re two sides of the same coin,”

Actually they aren’t Angus. And that is a big problem. 2 sides of the same coin implies that they are close.

The current state of the Dem and Rep parties is such that one is on the Space Station, and the other is in the Mariana Trench.

    • Neal says:

BS is secretly DS, and that ain’t pretty.

      • DS94everXev says:

Prettier than anybody you’ve been with wuss boy.

Go find a new blog to wuss out on. Talk Big. Act Tough. Then cower away like a scared dung beetle in a pile of feces. Let that scent get all over you. It is perfume next to your typical smell.

I know. Your make believe wife told me.

  9. undercenter says:

Great pitchers duel – Bum pitching the game of his life

  10. Crab15 says:

Pence single! Told you he was making good contact.

  11. 23jordan/ Smith's days are numbered!! says:

    Its ALL GIANTS1!11!!!!!

  12. undercenter says:

    One run wins this game.

  13. Coffee's for closers says:

Buffalo – After failing to take advantage of all of the expensive new toys and for continuous mediocrity or worse on offense Chan Gailey gets the axe.

Carolina – The owner is afraid he’ll die and wants to win NOW. The defense hasn’t improved enough and Cam appears to be in a major sophomore slump. Rivera gets the axe.

San Diego – Norv FINALLY gets fired. I thought for sure last season he was gone and one of the worst GM’s in the league continued to prove why he is by keeping the incompetent Turner around for another year. What I’m really hoping for is that the owner cleans house and kicks AJ out with Norv.

Cleveland – New owner, new coach period end of story.

Arizona – Ken Whisenhunt’s time has run out in the desert. He’s failed in grooming a replacement for Warner and the team is clearly not improving while the other teams in the division have or are.

    Extremely hot seat:
Philadelphia-If the Eagles go on a losing streak towards the end of the year then Fat Andy might finally be gone from the city of brotherly hatred.

Kansas City-Crennel will get at least one more season to find a QB and create some offense but if he doesn’t show improvement he’ll be fired before the end of next season.

Detroit – The Scwartz may not be with Detroit much longer if he cant get that offense back on track. The Lions were supposed to be contenders this year and they’ve regressed terribly.

  14. Coffee's for closers says:

C’mon Grant enough is enough. Is this a Football blog or a Giant’s World Series blog? Some of us truly don’t give a rats patooty about baseball or the Giants and would really prefer any discussion involving it was removed.

  15. AES says:

Let’s go Giants, clap, clap, … clap, clap, clap!

    Great job Madison!

  16. VicB says:

Browns. Need a total team rebuild from GM to Coaches and players.

Jets. Good players but a coach that doesn’t know anything but blitz.

Panthers. Good young team but horrible guidance in coaching.

Jaguars. 1st year coach not showing any difference from del Rio.

Chargers. Top 5 QB but coach has had no clear destination. Time to let go

KC. Speaks for itself. If the coach couldn’t do it for the browns the no for KC either.

    • MidWestNiner says:

I don’t think the Panthers will be looking for s new coach yet. The team appears to need weapons on offense and defense more than anything. Newton’s only true weapon right now is Greg Olsen. Steve Smith isn’t what he used to be and neith er is the run game. The defenae meanwhile needs to stay healthy.

      • Grant Cohn says:

The Panthers’ offensive scheme is preposterous. Almost 100 percent shotgun. Those coaches need to go.

      • MidWestNiner says:

You’re right, but I think that has more to do with Cam Newton’s current limitations. Right now I believe they’re more likely to get a new OC before a new head coach.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

You have an impatient owner and a team that has taken a huge step backwards in Carolina. The GM’s head has already fallen off the block, the coach would probably have gone too but I’m thinking the owner wanted to avoid a total collapse for the rest of the year. Unless they win out and get a win in the tournament I expect Rivera to be gone.

  17. MidWestNiner says:

    AFC

BUFFALO BILLS: Being blown out in the opener and later in back-to back games against the Patriots and Niners is enough of a reason to be fired, but it doesn’t help that the Bills have a horrible defense despite acquiring Mario Williams in the off-season.

NEW YORK JETS: A second straight season of missing the playoffs could be Rex Ryan’s undoing. Inconsistent play from both the offense and defense doesn’t help him either. And let’s not forget the Tim Tebow acquisition which hasn’t amounted to anything.

CLEVELAND BROWNS: A. new owner with a Steeler attitude doesn’t sound too good for for the Browns coach. Having his top supporter in Holmgren leaving makes his firing even more likely.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: The team just isn’t getting it done. A new coach might be needed to energize a fan base clamouring for Tim Tebow.

TENNESSEE TITANS: The current coach can’t get anything out of Chris Johnson unless he’s up against a porous run defense. This could change because of weak the AFC is this year, but as right now there’s no sign of a Music City Miracle anywhere.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: What was supposed to be a strength rhis season in their defense is instead a disgrace despite having a defensive minded coach at the helm. The offense is so horrible that putrid can’t even describe it. This too could change with the weakness of the AFC and the division they’re in, but right now it appears that this team is heading towards a huge shakeup this coming off-season.

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS: This team should be better than what it is, but they keep shooting themselves in the foot, as seen when they blew a 24 point lead after halftime on the national stage. Another season of failing to make the playoffs could cause a huge outcry from the fan base demanding change which will be hard to deny at that time.

OAKLAND RAIDERS: Just looking at their history with coaches in the past 10 years is enough evidence to show a coach here is always on the hot seat. Playing in a weak division helps, but if the playoffs are missed yet again, another head will roll whether he has made progress or not.

    NFC

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: Putting too much faith in Michael Vick could be Reid’s undoing. Ir doesn’t help that the team keeps underachieving despite its star power. Rhe firing of the defensive coordinator after six games isn’t a good sign either.

DALLAS COWBOYS: If Dallas makes the playoffs then the coach’s job will probably be safe. If not, he’ll have to answer to Jerry Jones, a man who hardly ever accepts failure. Not a good place to be.

DETROIT LIONS: After making the playoffs last season, the Lions are fighting to stay alive in a surprisingly tougher division. The team appears to be very undisciplined under Schwartz, and that alone could warrant a need for change at the head coaching position.

ARIZONA CARDINALS: This is another one that could go either way, but fluctuation at the QB position has hampered what was a hot team. Another season missing the playoffs could come back to bite this coach. The trade and huge payday to Kevin Kolb resulting in little in return doesn’t help the situation much. If the Cardinals lose to the Niners (which they will btw) might result in Whisenhunt’s seat getting a little warm.

    • Coffee's for closers says:

You realize that you’re expecting more then one third of the coaches in the NFL to get fired? On average only 7 coaches get replaced each year so 12 might be a bit high.

The Raiders and Chiefs have only had their coach for one season, even the hardest GM and owner usually give at least two if they’re awful and three if they’re only bad. I considered Jaguars but with MJD sitting out camp and then getting hurt along with a rookie QB that many people still don’t give much credit too I think the coach will be given at least one more year.

I should have included Cowboys too, he’s fired for sure.

      • MidWestNiner says:

I have the Raiders because of their recent history of being fire happy. The guy may have inherited a mess, but this is. an proud organization that doesn’t really care about that. They want results ASAP.
I have the Chiefs because of how horrible they’ve been despite being relatively healthy. What was thought their strength going into the season was their defense because of their defense-minded coach, but that has been far from the trurh. Neither the offense nor the defense can deliver right now. It’s expected that that current GM will be ousted at the end of the season, and I believe a new GM will want to pick his type of head coach.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

OK, if Pioli is fired then I would for sure agree that the Crennel is gone too.

      • MidWestNiner says:

        Coffee,
Most of the firings I listed come from the AFC. Of them, I have five that could go either way given how weak the AFC is this season. And three of those come the AFC West, which is currently attempting beat the team with the lowest record to make the playoffs, which of course belongs to Seattle a couple of years back.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

There will be 3-5 new openings so JGruden and BCowher will be back as an HCs. My guess is JG will probably get either the S.D. or Cleveland job. BCowher would be a good fit in KC.

      • MidWestNiner says:

I don’t know about Gruden Hof. He’s had several chances to return to head coaching and has chosen each time to remain in the booth.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Cowher is going to have his pick so you have to figure which team will have the most to offer him. Is that KC? Maybe if they end up with the #1 pick which is completely possible then he’d could at least bet on grooming Barkley otherwise I’m not sure why anyone who has their choice would want to go to KC.

I could see Cowher going to Carolina.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Coffee, I don’t see them giving up on RR in Carolina just yet. They may take out his coordinators which give him another year. If there is little to no improvement in 2013, he’ll be gone.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Here’s the million dollar question. When and which team will Chip Kelly eventually end up coaching in the NFL?

      • MidWestNiner says:

No run game there Coffee, which is Cowher’s bread-and-butter. Currently right now the Chiefs would fit his style best with their run game and defense.

      • MidWestNiner says:

The team in Los Angeles when returns into existence.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Carolina has a stable of good runningbacks and until this year they’ve been a very good running team. They’ve completely gone away from running the ball but that’s not because they’re not a good running team.

      • MidWestNiner says:

        …when it returns…

      • philly9er says:

I figured Gruden to replace Andy in philly. The offense wouldn’t have to change much. Just gotta get rid of Vick and get a big wr and let Shady run finally.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Mid, JGruden has been waiting for a HC gig that gives him the full decision making power. Cleveland’s new owner may just give it to him now that will MHolgren leaving. They have the makings of a good team with BWeeden.

      • MidWestNiner says:

But no defense really. The Chiefs have a young defense that he would love to mold into an elite group. And currently Charles would is the better deal at RB Coffee.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

By the way on paper given that the Panthers have played one less game then the Chiefs they’re running stats are very similar this season. KC has the edge in yards but Panthers has the edge in TD’s and they are nearly equal in avg per run and this is with the Chiefs attempting 10 more runs per game then Carolina.

      • MidWestNiner says:

I don’t believe so Hof. The new owner is a die-hard Steelers fan. I think he’ll want to build the Browns like his beloved Steelers, and I don’t see Gruden fitting that style of football.

      • MidWestNiner says:

Does that include or exclude Newton’s rushing TDs Coffee?

      • MidWestNiner says:

Ok that I can see happening Philly.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

The stat was rushing TD’s and didn’t distinguish between QB and RB i’m guessing.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Mid, I hear you and good point but there isn’t anyone that I would hire before JGruden. Too many of these new coaches just aren’t getting it done.

      • MidWestNiner says:

I’d hire Bill Cowher or Andy Reid first before John Gruden. Heck, if Roman leaves for a head coaching job in either the college or NFL ranks, I’d love to see Reid become the new OC. Just a dream though.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

No one answered my question about Chip Kelly. If he wanted to coach in the NFL I’m guessing he’d be the #2 most sought after guy after Cowher and would also have his pick of teams.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

I don’t see AReid ever taking a step back and take on the role of an OC. He would work in television until a position opened up if that is what he wished to do yet again. Same as Mooch – I’m sure he could have taken an OC position but that’s a step back for him. BCowher has been very successful and someone will offer him a job. He’ll probably be on top of many lists where there will be openings. I like JGruden’s approach. He would be my guy! LOL

      • MidWestNiner says:

Check my 9:34 P.M. post in this thread Coffee. But in all honestly I don’t really forsee it. His offense is too gimmicky and might actually backfire against an NFL defense.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Coffee, it’s not a slam dunk making the transition from college to the NFL for many of these HC’s. I think it is more of a risk than hiring a BCowher, JGruden, or even a top rated OC. It seems very few are successful these days. CKelly has the credentials and it would be interesting to see who would take that risk that he would also be successful in the NFL. TBD.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

He turned down the Bucs job last year. He’s the type that can find the right OC and tweak his system to make sense in the NFL. If Schwartz were to be fired I wonder if the offense in Detroit could lure him to the pros.

      • MidWestNiner says:

Unless Stafford improves his sloppy mechanics, I think he’d want a new QB if he came to Detroit Coffee.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        @ Hofer ( + Clem + Grant)
Route Stock Cellars Napa Valley Cab 09

      • Coffee's for closers says:

I didn’t care for the ’08 Route 29 Cab but I’ll try the ’09. An ’06 Kenefick Ranch Picket Road Red was delicious with my venison the other evening.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Brotha, thanks for the tip. I’ll try to find it…

    • Grant Cohn says:

Way to include Jim Schwartz. I agree with that.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

        what about Whisenhunt?

      • BigP says:

Schwartz just got a contract extension in June.

      • MidWestNiner says:

That extension guarantees he’ll get some money, not that he won’t lose his job after this season BigP.

      • BigP says:

I understand that, but most owners won’t get rid of a coach after giving him an extension. Coaches contracts are guaranteed, which means they would have to pay for two lucrative HC contracts if they hired a new coach. That won’t happen a year after leading the Lions to the playoffs.

      • MidWestNiner says:

It could if they don’t finish at least 8-8 and especially if the players keep getting disciplinary action against themselves for their idiotic actions.

  18. Tim Rattay says:

I Think the head coach of Nebraska Bo Pelini should get fired. Every farggin year its the same thing ranked top ten then whooosh where did they go? Oh yeah then Norv Turner needs to be taught a lesson for leaving us with Alex. The Fat guy in Philly, And The Schwartz he’s gotta go He is way too Druid!

  19. Coffee's for closers says:

Here’s one; if the Falcons lose in the first round of the tournament AGAIN then Mike Smith’s seat will become inferno hot if not empty.

    • MidWestNiner says:

It could, but that wouldn’t be the best idea. They have a good thing going right now in Atlanta. Shaking it up might prove disastrous.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Before their stellar start there was talk of Smith’s impending departure if the team didn’t make it into the second round or deeper. If they have another great year but get bounced in their first game it wouldn’t be a total shocker if he got fired.

      • MidWestNiner says:

You’re right, it wouldn’t. But it’d still be foolish after had improving so much. Thr Chargers did that, and although they’ve made it to AFC championship, they’ve really faltered underneath Norv Turner.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

They could be him on notice but really who can do a better job than what he’s done there since taking that HC role?

    • Tim Rattay says:

yeah its funny how fast things can turn on you.

  20. MidWestNiner says:

Off topic Grant, but I’d like to see a questionnaire that asks who we’d like to takes Roman’s and. Fangios’ positions if they leave in the off-season for head coaching jobs. I’m pretty sure ther’d be some interesting opinions on that topic.

    • MidWestNiner says:

      …who we’d like to see take…

    • BigP says:

I asked him about that a week or two ago. I would have to think Geep Chryst would be the favorite for the OC position. I don’t know how many teams would want Fangio for a HC, he seems like he is better suited for the DC role.

      • MidWestNiner says:

Fangio could take a job at a university like Auburn where defense is key in the SEC.

      • BigP says:

He could, he just doesn’t seem like a HC, especially in college where recruiting is as important as coaching acumen. He is a great DC, though.

  21. Tim Rattay says:

what was it that J Rizzy aka Rice said in his book that basically Turner had no man parts. Couldn’t stand up to Woodson. Great OC horrible HC.! “we going to mars!”

  22. Houston 9er says:

The only guys I can see on the Hot Seat right now are:

    Bills – Gailey
    Chargers – Turner
    Cowboys – Garrett
    Jets – Ryan

There are others who probably deserve to be fired but their seats aren’t hot yet. Perhaps mildly warm but not hot. Coaches in KC, Carolina, Oakland, and Cleveland will probably get one more year. I could see Shurmur fired in Cleveland since Holmgren is leaving so he’s probably a little warmer than others but I would think he’d get another year.

  23. Mr. Automatic says:

    Shurmur’s (Cleveland) gone. GM’s out, owner’s pissed, they can’t buy a win… it’s time for a change.

Gailey’s (Buffalo) out. FFS – HAVE to attract a better d coordinator. Chan’s not cutting it and hasn’t for years.

Pioli (KC) and del Rio (Jacksonville) are inches away.

Garrett (Dallas) will probably get the axe cause his boss is a lunatic.

Turner (SD) should get the axe, but he shoulda been fired a couple seasons ago. Guy’s like a cockroach. Every season he survives to climb to the middle of the trash heap to the amazement of all.

Ryan (Jets) is a good coach and the players love him. I think he’s got another season in him.

Carolina needs a new GM and an OC without his head up his bum, not a head coach, imho.

Wiz (AZ) should be fine for at least another season. His team’s competitive and showing signs of life, even with the worst o-line in football.

Reid (Philly) may get the axe. He’s an institution in Philly…but that may be their problem. Need some shake-up and a new perspective.

  24. Mr. Automatic says:

*jaguars (Mularky) – wtf del Rio? where’d I pull that from? haha my bad

  25. Sonoma 49er says:

As far as I see nobody has mentioned Pete Carroll yet. Why does he get a pass?? Seattle probably will go something like 6 -10 or 5 -11 this year. They spent a lot of money on free agents (e.g. Matt Flynn who doesn’t even play), has made a few odd (at least questionable) draft picks and they don’t have too much to show for it so far. Plus you’ve got Pete’s gigantic ego to deal with if your are Mr. Paul Allen. They won’t make the playoffs this year (last time was a fluke with a losing record) – so if they don’t go 8 -8, I think Mr. Allen may let him go after this year.

    • DS94everXev says:

      @Sonoma

Why do you think Seattle only gets 6 or 6 wins? They have 4 already. You don’t expect them to win at least 2 of their remaining 9? Especially games at home?

Is Carroll the GM there? Last I heard he wasn’t. The GM gets the blame for bringing players in who suck. The coach gets the credit for coaching his guys up.

  26. Coffee's for closers says:

This conversation absolutely needs to happen, it should have happened at the end of last season but what can ya do:

Alex Spanos: A.J. are you planning on firing Norv?

A.J. Smith: No, I was gonna give him one mo…

Alex Spanos: You’re fired. *to his secretary* Get me Norv Turner on the line phone…

Norv Turner: Hey Alex did you g….

    Spanos: You’re fired.

I feel so bad for Chargers fans to watch all that talent get wasted.
