John Madden spoke on KCBS Thursday morning. Here’s what he said about Colin Kaepernick.
Q: If it is the two backup QBs on Monday night – Colin Kaepernick and Jason Campbell – who has the edge in your mind?
MADDEN: Kaepernick, because he can run with the ball. The play can break down and he can make a touchdown out of it. That’s the thing that holds the pass rush down. It really affects their defense. They like to go all out. They like to do what they call “spot rush” on a pass rush – rush to a spot where the quarterback’s going to be. When you have a guy like Kaepernick, you really don’t know where that spot is because he can run and run with speed. I think that’s an advantage for the 49ers.

I can’t disagree with the iconic John Madden.
Madden says Kaepernick matches up well against the Bears “spot rush”
…and so do I…
I certainly will take Madden’s opinion over Cosell’s any day.
+1
SF better run the ball. And run it well. Chi will not be able to stop the run.
Pound the ball, Niners win!
i think this will be a game VD and Walker put a stamp on…..bears are soft in the middle…. both have speed and can expose that soft under belly which could loosen up the run game for gore
and that could help kap with his one read schemes
I agree. The Niners want Urlacher and Briggs in drop coverages. Leaving a lot of space underneath for Vernon and Delanie.
The Bears live off their cover two and front four. We spread them out in our two tight ends sets, this will force their ILB to cover and we can open up the run.
Im guessing a similar game plan as the Cards game on MNF.
actually i think VD and walker go over the ILBs pulling them off the line….the softness is behind them…throw in a couple of crabtrees in there as well
Love me some John Madden.

Of course with the two backups playing Kaepernick is the favorite. I believe it would be hard not to be the favorite against Jason Campbell unless your name is Tim Tebow. Then, it’s about a draw. I agree though that Kapernick gives SF about as good of a chance to win as Smith against Chicago and Campbell.
To paraphrase another Madden gem: “don’t worry about the horse being blind, just load the cart!” If that is how Madden feels, then he wouldn’t think twice about loading the cart with a blurred vision QB either. If Alex is over his double vision then let him play, otherwise I’m fine with Colin. Either way, Let’s Go Ni-ners!
Doesn’t say anything about Kaep but from football outsiders
“…Chicago brings all the pressure you expect. Chicago’s defense ranks fifth in Adjusted Sack Rate. Meanwhile, Smith has been terrible when he gets pressured. Without heavy pressure, Smith has a Total QBR of 87.6, third in the league. With pressure, his Total QBR plummets to 2.0, 27th in the league.”
The more telling point here is that at 2.0 he is ranked 27th! So there are FIVE QBs with ratings less than 2.0????? What are the numbers for the QBs directly ranked above him? Or what’s the rating of the best QB in this category “under pressure”? I suspect that the tenth best QB in this category has a 17 rating, meaning all QBs struggle under pressure, duh. So, without more data I say this quote needs more study before it can be taken seriously or understood. I’m curious if you have the rest of the ranks and ratings, Thanks.
AZ sent pressure at AS. How did that turn out for them, AS stats, Niners offense, winning?
BS, you are as dub as a box of rocks. It’s not sending pressure. It’s throwing when the pressure is there. It’s making a play with the defense bearing down on you. Man you just don’t get it. Football for dummies, try it. By the way, can you give me that concussion breakdown for kids again? What a bimbo!!!bwahahaha!
Hahahahaahah. Jesus. Lay off Jordan, BS is that guy that doesn’t know he’s that guy….
wuss boy 1 and 2
Wuss. Before, during and following the bet I offered.
Look how they can’t live without me. Pathetic.
Jordan. Lmao!!! Wheeeew!
Grimey,
got that link? Doesn’t surprise me. When everything is perfect, Smith can flourish. Well, by flourish I mean safe five yard passes, but he’s hitting those in succession. But make him have to create and he’s toast….
I have to think Harbaugh is playing poker with Lovie. Why put a concussed QB in against this pass rush?
