49ers vs. Chiefs live blog: Pregame

SANTA CLARA — This is the live blog for the pregame of the 49ers’ Week 5 game against the Chiefs. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

11:58 The 49ers’ inactives are QB Josh Johnson, WR Quinton Patton, CB Tramaine Brock, C Marcus Martin, T Vernon Davis, TE Anthony Davis and DT Tank Carradine.

11:59 Perrish Cox starts for Brock. Vance McDonald starts for V. Davis. Jonathan Martin starts for A. Davis.

12:00 The Chiefs’ inactives are QB Aaron Murray, WR Albert Wilson, WR Donnie Avery, S Eric Berry, C Eric Kush, OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and DE Damion Square.

12:02 A.J. Jenkins starts at wide receiver for Donnie Avery. Ryan Harris starts at right tackle for Donald Stephenson. Jaye Howard starts at defensive end for Vance Walker. Ron Parker starts at strong safety for Eric Berry.

12:05 The 49ers’ offense is Davis-less like it was Week 3 against the Cardinals.  To compensate for the lack of Davises, Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman abandoned the base running game and mostly used a spread passing attack against the Cardinals. Do you think Harbaugh and Roman will do the same this week against the Chiefs?

12:14 I expect Harbaugh and Roman will not use much spread passing in this game. Joe Staley and Jonathan Martin have struggled in pass protection this season, and Tambi Hali and Justin Houston are two of the best pass rushers in football.

12:28 Jed York took to twitter this morning to set the record straight: “Jim is my coach. We are trying to win a SB, not a personality or popularity contest. Any more questions?”

Nope, that clears up everything.

12:39 Remember, the 49ers’ offense committed 10 penalties against the Eagles last week. The 49ers’ offense has been penalized more than any other offense this season.

12:49 Frank Gore has been popping most of his big-gainers this season on Counter Trey runs. Interested to see how the Chiefs defend that play  and how the 49ers disguise it this afternoon. The past few weeks the 49ers mostly ran that play when Bruce Miller was lined up at H-back instead of fullback.

1:16 The 49ers’ offense was introduced all together as a unit. That’s new. The 49ers’ defense is being introduced player by player.

  1. Fellas,

Didn’t I tell you all that Vernon Davis wouldn’t play this week. He’s trying to singlehandedly derail this team he’s out next week as well with back spasms???? He’s a fraud!

      1. Seriously, I’ve had back spasms that brought me to my knees and still was able to perform my job without the medications that Davis is able to take.

          1. Ribico,

Watch the replay son. He wasn’t hit in the back. He got clipped on his upper left shoulder and got up holding his left hip. Try watching the games instead of listening on radio.

              1. Ribico, no my job was lifting 60lb+ boxes up and down a truck all day long. And by the way VD is one of my favorite 49ers.

              2. Jordo has been in a snit over Davis for as long as I’ve been on this site. All the way back to his “find me a video that shows Davis running through a tackler” wager challenge. Of course, it took someone about two minutes to find a video showing just that.

Malingering and sabotaging the team effort is a pretty serious charge. But that’s the kind of BS Jordo vomits on this site and I’ll call him out on it every time.

        1. I have a problem with “fans” slamming on players with ZERO knowledge of what they are talking about. And that is you, goingo n, what, 3 years now?

    1. He got cut so they cold add tight ends off the practice squad. Then Davis cane back so they cut the right end they signed an brought Johnson back.

  2. It’s more about the blog hits than the substance. Cannot click on them, cannot read them, cannot comment on them. I can’t do it! I want journalistic integrity! I want a writer without a yellow journalism streak running all the way through! (Smith or Kap)

    GO NINERS!!

      1. If you hate on a player, that means you’re a troll. 23 welcher and lame area fantastical feel they are exempt. I think grant allows them to stay because every town needs an idiot and we are lucky to have 2 very special nitwits. It would be a shame to lose one to the KC blog.

  3. How about those Cowboys????? 4-1 with the win in OT today. Teams, in the past, which open the season 4-1 make the play-offs 77% of the time!!!!!!!!

    1. Nice win by Dallas today. It’s a game they would have probably lost in the past. Though it does help to play against Ryan Fitzpatrick. Murray has to hold onto the ball too.
