Blount going to Titans, not 49ers

The 49ers’ first minicamp of 2010 just got a little less interesting. As you may have heard, Oregon running back LaGarrette Blount, better known for one punch than for 1,084 rushing yards, decided against signing with the Niners and instead agreed to terms with Tennessee.

Saturday-night reports had Blount signing with SF, but his deal with the Titans suggests nothing was ever consummated with the 49ers.

“I’m not sure quite what happened, but I think it kind of fell in our lap a little bit,” Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt told “The Wake Up Zone” on 104.5 FM in Nashville.

“He’s a different kind of halfback than the running backs we have, and I think the opportunity is probably better here than it was in San Francisco,” Reinfeldt said. “They have three kinds of power halfbacks.”

They, presumably, would be Frank Gore, Michael Robinson and draft pick Anthony Dixon, though even Glen Coffee has some heft at 209 pounds. Reinfeldt has a point, but Mike Singletary and the 49ers can’t be thrilled about the Titans whispering in Blount’s ear.

In any case, Navorro Bowman can now resume his place as the most controversial rookie on the 49ers’ practice field.
