Browns assistant head coach/quarterbacks Rip Scherer met with coach Mike Singletary and GM Scot McCloughan about the 49ers’ opening at quarterbacks coach.
The 49ers do not have any interviews scheduled today with offensive-coordinator candidates, but Scherer’s appearance certainly is intriguing.
After all, Scherer, 56, worked the past two seasons with Rob Chudzinski, the former Browns offenisve coordinator. Chudzinski is one of the candidates for the 49ers’ offensive-coordinator position. And Scherer has not been retained on the staff of new Browns coach Eric Mangini.
Singletary has said that the new offensive coordinator would be allowed to hire his own QBs coach. Word is that Scherer was already on a list of candidates to replace Ted Tollner as 49ers’ QBs coach.
But, again, this move is intriguing — and, perhaps, very telling.
