49ers – Seahawks Live Blog

This is the live blog for the San Francisco 49ers week 13 matchup with NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks from Lumen Field in Seattle.

4:44 Carlos Dunlap blew up Tom Compton for a sack/safety in the 3rd quarter, and Carlos Dunlap blew up Tom Compton to bat down the pass and secure the win for Seattle. Seattle 30 49ers 23

4:28 49ers driving at the two-minute warning. Jimmy Garoppolo hits George Kittle over the middle to the Seattle 30.

4:22 Just as all hope seemed lost, the 49ers defense forces a turnover deep in Seattle territory. 49ers ball on their own 1.

4:10 On 3rd and 8, Geroppolo gets the ball to Brandon Aiyuk, but he can’t hold onto the ball as he hits the ground and its ruled incomplete after Seattle challenges the play.

3:55 Elijah Mitchell is injured on 3rd and 1. He was stopped for no gain, the ball came out but his knee was down.

Third quarter comes to a close with Seattle ball up 30-23.

3:44 Russell Wilson makes San Francisco pay, hitting Tyler Lockett with a perfect throw for a touchdown. Seahawks 30 49ers 23

3:41 After hitting Brandon Aiyuk for a gain of 21 to get out of the shadow of their own endzone, Garoppolo throws high over the middle to George Kittle and Quandre Diggs gets the interception. It looked like Garoppolo had Trent Sherfield coming open deep to his left side on a corner.

3:34 Seattle drives down to the 49ers 31-yard line, but Arden Key and Azeez Al-Shaair bring Wilson down for a sack and the loss of nine takes Seattle out of field goal position. 49ers will take over at their own 9.

3:28 On 3rd and 8 for the 5, right tackle Tom Compton gets blown up by Carlos Dunlap who sacks Garoppolo in the endzone for a safety. 49ers 23 Seahawks 23

3:24 Russell Wilson hits Gerald Everett in the hands but the tight end bobbles the ball and K’Waun Williams grabs the ball out of the air for an interception. Cannot overstate how big that play was. 49ers ball at their own 3.

3:19 Travis Benjamin fumbles the opening kickoff of the second half and Seattle gets it.

3:02 49ers special teams allow the kickoff to be taken out to the 34. The defense then helps Seattle out with two roughing the passer penalties and Russell Wilson makes them pay with a touchdown throw to Eskridge. 49ers 23 Seahawks 21

2:57 Jimmy Garoppolo rolls to his left off play action and connects with George Kittle who takes it the rest of the way for a 48-yard touchdown. Garoppolo was 4-5, 74 yards on that possession. The only incompletion was a drop by Brandon Aiyuk on a screen pass. 49ers 23 Seahawks 14

2:42 On the next play, Lenoir is called for pass interference in the endzone to give Seattle first and goal from the one and then Adrian Peterson runs around the left side for a touchdown. 49ers 17 Seahawks 14

2:38 Russell Wilson hits D.K. Metcalf deep down the right sideline, beating Deommodore Lenoir, for a gain of 33-yards down to the 49ers four yardline. Jaquiski Tartt is down in the endzone after the play. Would be another big loss for San Francisco’s defense.

2:27 After opening up their possession with a throw to George Kittle for 12-yards, San Francisco turns to Elijah Mitchell who picks up 23 yards with four runs. A holding penalty on Trent Sherfield backs the offense up, but they are able to get back to Seattle’s 33-yard line on two short Garoppolo completions. Robbie Gould then hits from 50-yards out. 49ers 17 Seahawks 7

2:16 The 49ers force another three and out as the first quarter comes to a close. Arik Armstead started it off, getting a sack of Russell Wilson on first down. Armstead blew around the guard to pick up his fourth sack of the season.

2:10 San Francisco takes over at their own 46 after Seattle misses a long field goal and goes 54 yards on nine plays for a touchdown. Garoppolo makes up for a bad miss on a deep throw to Kyle Juszczyk by completing his next two passes to get the 49ers down to the Seattle 8. Elijah Mitchell takes the ball in from the two giving the 49ers a 14-7 lead.

2:02 This game is bonkers.

1:56 After the defense forces a three and out, Jimmy Garoppolo throws an interception on the first offensive play for the 49ers. Bobby Wagner didn’t buy the pay fake and dropped right into the route of Trent Sherfield. Just an awful play by Garoppolo.

1:45 Back-to-back big plays by D.J. Jones. Drops Adrian Peterson for a loss of 5 and then forces a fumble on the next play when hustling out to his left on a Seahawks screen.

On first down from the 24, Garoppolo finds Kittle up the seam for a 24-yard touchdown. Kittle now has four touchdown receptions in the last five games. 49ers 7 Seahawks 7

1:41 Travis Benjamin can only return the kickoff to the 15. From there Elijah Mitchell picks up no yards on the first two plays, then Jimmy Garoppolo throws incomplete to George Kittle. Seattle played man with only a single high safety and none of the 49ers receivers could get open.

1:36 Travis Homer takes a fake punt 73-yards for a touchdown. How does that happen at this point in the game? Terrible job by ST Coordinator Richard Hightower. Seahawks 7 49ers 0

1:29 Trenton Cannon injured on the opening kickoff.

1:24 1:20 With the injuries at linebacker, the 49ers promoted Tyrell Adams to the active roster and activated Justin March from the practice squad. March was just signed on Wednesday.

The team also activated wide receiver River Cracraft from the practice squad to fill the spot left open by the injury to Deebo Samuel.

1:13 Will be interesting to see how Kyle Shanahan and DeMeco Ryans account for the losses of Deebo Samuel and Fred Warner.

Samuel’s explosive playmaking ability has been a big part of the 49er’s formula for success on offense over the last three weeks. Neither Elijah Mitchell nor Jeff Wilson Jr were active for San Francisco the first time they faced Seattle, yet the offense moved the ball well on the ground.

The loss of Warner may prove to be the bigger problem. San Francisco’s defense has been a bit suspect throughout the season, but they’ve been helped recently by the 0ffense keeping the ball for an average of roughly 38 minutes per game. In addition to Warner, the defense will also be without Dre Greenlaw or Marcell Harris. Will we see Ryans go :with a big nickel look instead of the base defense with rookie safety Talanoa Hufanga in more of a linebacker role?-yard

12:15 Fred Warner is inactive for the 49ers.  Joining him are Maurice Hurst, Deebo Samuel, Colton McKivitz, Marcell Harris, and Dre Greenlaw.

Inactive for Seattle today will be QB Jacob Eason, CB Nigel Warrior, RB Alex Collins, G Phil Hayes, G Damien Lewis and DT Robert Nkemdiche

  1. A 49er is injured on the KO? WHo? Lot of Niner fans at the game.

Player is Cannon. I hope it is not as serious as it looks.

  2. Fumble. Niners recover. Our D has dominated this game in the early goings.

And quick TD conversion . Jimmy to Kittle.

  3. Whelp, that was one of the worst passes Jimmy has ever thrown. Does he think Wagner plays for the Niners?

  4. A few days ago I commented that in the absence of Deebo we would see a lot of Kittle and Juice. I’m glad the coaching staff read my comment and took my advise.

        1. Without Seb here, it’s always good to get a reminder that the team looks to fan internet commentary for strategy!

  5. All it takes is 1 throw from Wilson and they are back in it. Our offense will need to quite making mistakes.

    1. Offense is doing good. With the secondary ailing, it’s the defense that will need to play down the stretch with as few mistakes as possible.

  6. 2 roughing the passer on this drive? Inexcusable.

What side of the ball needs to be mistake free?

  7. Why the hell did the Niners ever let Nick Ballore go? Oh, that’s right, they don’t value special teams. If we lose this game it could very well be because of special teams which has already cost us 8 points.

  8. Holy hell! Sometimes it is better to be lucky.

Now the offense needs a nice 12 minute touchdown drive.

  9. Kyle should be airing out Jimmy again. Jimmy just holding the ball forever like he is at midfield. Jimmy is so clueless to often.

  10. So the running game is getting nothing, and they no longer trust Jimmy to convert. Instead the run is stuffed and a near fumble. Now a pathetic 4th down call. It’s time for Trey Lance!

    1. But apparently they can’t. It’s just one mistake after another. It’s the Seattle jinx I guess.

  11. Hard to win with 3 personal foul penalties, multiple turnovers, no running game, and bad Jimmy.

A TD here for Seattle and it’s over.

  12. Too many cute run plays. The run game was ineffective all day, we needed to pass for the TD, not waste downs on runs.

This isn’t a rivalry when you lose 80% of the games over a decade, it’s a slaughter.

    1. It’s too bad Niners couldn’t put the final nail in the Seahawks coffin. But likely Wilson is gone from Seattle next season. Niners will have a new QB, the rivalry gets restarted from scratch.

  13. omg – that was a mugging – no flags – I hate refs

Why are we going to #81 ?- always with these dumb stuff – fck

  14. Pass interference everyday of the week. Not an excuse for the 49ers sloppy play but let’s get real here. In the End Zone in clear view of the refs and all of us watching. I call BS.

    1. If you have to depend upon refs for calls you aren’t good enough. That’s the hallmark of bad teams.

      1. Everyone knows that but there is no erasing an obvious BS non call that went against the 49ers and probably prevented the game from going into overtime. Fair is fair.

  15. After all that Seattle crap today, the 49ers are still tied for the 6th playoff spot with the Washington Football Team. Unfortunately the 49ers are in a very bad spot in the secondary, and the entire right side of the O line. False snaps are embarrassing. Going to Cincinnati does not look like fun.

    1. 8-9 final season record with first round elimination if they do, in fact, make
      the playoffs.
