Quarterback Brian Hoyer throws a pass during the 49ers preseason game against the Broncos

SANTA CLARA

This is the live blog for the 49ers preseason game against the Broncos. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

5:22 While we’re waiting for the game to start, check out this video of Michael Lombardi picking his sleeper team in the NFC. Tell me if his points sound familiar to you.

6:08 The following 49ers will not play:

  • DT DeForest Buckner
  • DE Aaron Lynch
  • DE Ronald Blair
  • LB Sean Porter
  • CB Will Redmond
  • CB Prince Charles Iworah
  • FS Jimmie Ward
  • WR Aaron Burbridge

6:10 Here are the 49ers lineup changes:

  • DT Chris Jones for DT DeForest Buckner
  • FS Lorenzo Jerome for FS Jimmie Ward
  • OG Zane Beadles for OG Joshua Garnett

6:18 I will do a live Periscope recap of the game after I leave the 49ers locker room. I’ll give a five-minute warning before I start the broadcast.

6:35 Here is the list of Broncos who aren’t playing

  • OLB Von Miller
  • OLB Shane Ray
  • OLB Shaquil Barrett
  • ILB Brandon Marshall
  • ILB Todd Davis
  • DE Derek Wolfe
  • DE Jared Crick
  • DE DeMarcus Walker
  • NT Kyle Peko
  • SS T.J. Ward
  • WR Emmanuel Sanders
  • TE Jake Butt

  • C Matt Paradis
  • QB Chad Kelly

6:36 Here are the 49ers captains:

  • OG Zane Beadles
  • RB Kapri Bibbs
  • DE Elvis Dumervil
  • LB Dekoda Watson

6:39 CB Will Redmond is out with an ankle injury.

6:40 Both LB NaVorro Bowman and LB Reuben Foster will play in this game. Foster suffered a mild sprain of the AC joint in his surgically-repaired shoulder on Wednesday and missed practice on Thursday. A mild AC joint sprain (grade 1) usually takes 10 days to recover.

7:05 The 49ers win the toss and defer possession to the second half.

7:10 On third-and-6 from the Broncos 42-yard line, Paxton Lynch passes off his back foot and overthrows tight end Virgil Green. Free safety Lorenzo Jerome dropped the interception.

7:12 The 49ers defense would have forced a three-and-out, but on third-and-7 Rashard Robinson missed a tackle in the flat and Dekoda Watson was flagged for unnecessary roughness.

7:12 Eli Harold started in place of Ahmad Brooks.

7:13 Vance McDonald is the starting tight end for the second straight preseason game.

7:14 The officials rule the ball touched a player on the 49ers during the punt and the Broncos recovered at the 49ers 11-yard line. The officials are reviewing the play.

7:16 The refs confirm their ruling. Broncos ball. Jaquiski Tartt touched the ball.

7:20 On second-and-goal from the eight, Rashard Robinson commits pass interference in the end zone. And on third-and-goal from the one, running back C.J. Anderson powers through Lorenzo Jerome and Eric Reid for the touchdown. 7-0 Broncos.

7:21 Three big mistakes for the 49ers during the first five minutes of the game: An unnecessary roughness penalty on third down, a turnover on special teams and a pass interference penalty in the end zone.

7:26 The Niners commit an illegal-shift penalty on second down and go three and out. Vance McDonald let a pass fly through his hands on second-and-13. Carlos Hyde gained just two yards on a stretch zone play to his left on first-and-10.

7:30 NaVorro Bowman breaks up a pass intended for tight end Virgil Green on third-and-6, and the Broncos go three and out.

7:32 The 49ers commit an illegal motion and a holding penalty during the punt return. The Broncos accept the holding penalty. Sloppy, undisciplined play for the second week in a row.

7:42 On third-and-11 from the Broncos 44, Brian Hoyer pats the ball out of his throwing hand and fumbles. The Broncos recover at their 47. Embarrassing play.

7:43 Before the fumble, Hoyer was 4 for 5 during the drive for 53 yards.

7:46 On second-and-10 from the 49ers 43, Rashard Robinson fails to set the edge and C.J. Anderson runs around the left end for an eight-yard gain. The Broncos will face third-and-2 from the Niners 35 when the second quarter starts.

7:50 On third-and-2, Arik Armstead falls down as Paxton Lynch scrambles past him for a 10-yard gain.

7:57 On third-and-12, Paxton Lynch throws a two-yard pass his running back and Rashard Robinson makes the tackle. Lynch is the new Checkdown Charlie.

7:58 The Broncos make a 45-yard field goal and lead 10-0.

7:59 Logan Paulsen commits an illegal-block-in-the-back penalty during the kick return.

8:00 On second-and-10, Marquise Goodwin bobbles a pass that was thrown slightly behind him, and Broncos CB Chris Lewis-Harris snatches the ball out of his hands for the interception. The officials are reviewing the play.

8:02 The officials confirm their ruling. Broncos ball at the 49ers 43.

8:06 The second-team defense is in the game, and Ahmad Brooks is playing with the 2s. On third-and-2 from the 49ers 25, Jaquiski Tartt blitzes and sacks Paxton Lynch for a loss of 7. The Broncos make a 51-yard field goal and lead 13-0.

8:10 Hoyer is still in the game with 6:14 left in the first half.

8:16 On first-and-10 from the Broncos 46, Tim Hightower runs off right tackle and fumbles. Broncos ball.

8:25 On first-and-goal from the 19, Asa Jackson gives up a touchdown catch to Jordan Taylor. Nice back-shoulder pass from Trevor Siemian, who is clearly better than Paxton Lynch. 20-0 Broncos.

8:27 Beathard comes in the game to play quarterback for the final 34 seconds of the first half.

8:33 Beathard completes three of four passes for 23 yards. His one incomplete pass is a Hail Mary at the end of the half. J.P. Flynn was flagged for holding during that play, but the Broncos declined the penalty. The Niners committed nine penalties in the first half (two were declined), committed four turnovers and scored no points. Hard to analyze individual players when the team is this sloppy and undisciplined. Can Kyle Shanahan fix this issue before the start of the regular season? That’s his first big test as a head coach.

8:39 Carlos Hyde had three good runs at the end of the half when he was facing the Broncos second-string defense, which was more like their third-string defense. But he did not run well earlier in the half when he was facing the Broncos first-string defense, which was more like their second-string defense considering how many starters aren’t playing. Hyde’s vision is sub par.

8:45 The 49ers have the ball to start the third quarter.

8:48 On the second play of the drive, Beathard play fakes and hits Aldrick Robinson over the middle, who runs for a 39-yard gain. Next play, Beathard play fakes, rolls left and hits George Kittle, who runs through a defender and scores from 29 yards out. The officials are reviewing the touchdown.

8:50 The officials confirm the touchdown. Broncos lead 20-7.

9:02 The Broncos make a 42-yard field goal. They lead the 23-7. Cornerback Asa Jackson gave up two catches for 32 yards during the drive. He’s getting cut. D.J. Jones was played well at the point of attack as the second-team nose tackle.

9:08 The Niners go three and out. Beathard tripped and fell as he handed the ball off to Kapri Bibbs on second down. Not the most graceful play by the rookie.

9:13 Quinton Dial stops Stevan Ridley for no gain on third-and-1, and the Broncos go four and out. DeAndre Smelter commits a holding penalty during the punt. That’s the 11th penalty of the game for the Niners. Logan Paulsen committed a holding penalty during the previous kick return.

9:19 On second down, center Tim Barnes gets pushed backwards 4 yards and Tim Hightower gets tackled for a loss. On third down, Beathard’s pass gets batted down at the line of scrimmage. Niners go three and out. During the punt, the Niners gunners are Adrian Colbert and Kendrick Bourne.

9:19 The Broncos commit four penalties during the punt and the Niners commit one — a hold on Smelter. Penalties offset. Re-punt.

9:25 On the final play of the third quarter, Leger Douzable stops Stevan Ridley after a one-yard gain. The Broncos will face second-and-9 from their 21 when the fourth quarter starts.

9:28 Kyle Sloter replaced Trevor Siemian at quarterback at the beginning of this series. On second-and-9, Pita Taumoepenu beats Donald Stephenson to sack Sloter. Broncos go three and out.

9:32 On first-and-10, the 49ers were penalized for an illegal shift when Blake Bell and Victor Bolden Jr. were moving at the same time. On third-and-16, Trent Taylor was open deep over the middle, but Beathard couldn’t throw to him because right tackle Garry Gilliam got beat and Beathard hard to scramble out of the pocket. Niners go three and out.

9:34 Pita Taumoepenu was injured during the punt.

9:41 The Broncos kick a 40-yard field goal and lead 26-7. During the drive, Will Davis gave up a 17-yard catch, and Ahkello Witherspoon gave up a 14-yard catch.

9:42 Matt Barkley replaces C.J. Beathard at quarterback.

9:47 On second-and-10, Shelby Harris blows past Norman Price and rips the ball away from Joe Williams as he receives the handoff from Barkley during a slow-developing draw play. That’s the Niners fifth turnover of the game. Broncos ball at the SF 24.

9:51 On second-and-10 from the Niners 20, Juwan Thompson runs an outside zone play to the left, Shayne Skov and Austin Calitro both miss tackles and Thompson scores a touchdown. Broncos lead 33-7.

9:52 Victor Bolden Jr. receives the kickoff four yards deep in the end zone, makes Kalif Raymond miss and runs 104 yards untouched for the touchdown. Broncos lead 33-14. Bolden Jr. looks like he could be a special returner. He might make the team as the sixth wide receiver.

9:56 The Broncos recover the onside kick.

10:05 Broncos win. Stay tuned for my Periscope recap and grades.

    1. I thought we’d win 7 games tops. After the first preseason game I was ready to lower that number. 9 games? With this offensive line and secondary? Gonna have to see something that we haven’t so far to think winning 9 games is even in the area of possibility.

  1. It is tough to watch the Cowgirls’ Jaylon Smith struggle to change direction and hobbling around the field. What a shame! Such a talented linebacker prior to the injury. I hate the Cowgirls, but I really thought J. Smith was going to be a special NFL linebacker prior to his devastating knee injury.

It just goes to show that every player can be one flukey, or not-so flukey, play away from a career defining injury, knock on wood. Let’s all say a prayer or keep our fingers crossed that the 49ers finish tonight’s game without any key injuries!

  2. Nice set, kinda reminds me of the NFL version of The Tonight Show. Chargers have been my sleeper team in the AFC. NFC is a tougher nut to crack, and the 49ers are tougher this year. If I had to pick one NFC sleeper, I’d go with the Vikings.

    Go Niners!

    1. Vikings had their sleeper title last year. They aren’t sneaking up on anyone. People know that D is real. I’d go with the Giants. They are being written off because of the cowboys and eagles. They are my sleeper

        1. Eli, as in the post- apocalyptic ‘The Book of Eli’? “You know the only good thing about no soap… is that you can smell hijackers a mile off.”

      1. I thought the Vikings finished 3rd in their division with an 8-8 record. The Giants were in the playoffs. Clearly they’re not a sleeper. I certainly haven’t written them off. I predicted the Giants would win their division.

  3. Yah baby ….. Michael Lombardi, giving the 49ers and Kyle Shanahan a strong shout-out on the Rich Eisen. Let’s hope people take his remarks with a roll of the eyes because I am looking forward to sneaking up on some teams this season, and Cam Newton sure doesn’t look very comfortable throwing the football yet. In fact he might not play at all in the preseason.

      1. Here is my list of the top 9 things I’ll be watching closely on Saturday night:

        1) Will we see the Jusz a little more involved in this offense tonight? If not, I think it’s fair to assume the 49ers are going to feature a steady diet of the Jusz on opening day VS the Panthers.
        2) Swing Tackle: Where does the Swing Tackle battle stand heading into the 2nd preseason game. Has Darrell Williams Jr. done enough to warrant a chance to face the Broncos 2nd string defense, or is it still a two man battle between Theus and Gilliam?
        3) Who’s the first halfback off the bench between J. Williams and M. Breida. This competition has definitely lived up to the pre-camp hype.
        4) TE. We finally get a chance to see George Kittle in game action. And, are the 49ers still “hiding” Hikutini, with the hopes of placing him on the PS?
        5) CJB. He could cement himself as the 49ers #2 QB with a strong performance tonight. How will M. Barkley respond?
        6) CB. It’s our first chance to see Robinson & Johnson on the filed together. Will Robinson bounce back from his shaky start last week, and who’s going to be the first off the bench between Witherspoon & Reaser?
        7) WR. I think we all have a pretty clear idea of who the top 5 WR’s are on this team. But after that, the competition seems pretty wide open.
        8) Ray Ray Armstrong. From what I have heard, ShanaLynch are high on Armstrong, and with Foster & Bowman nursing sore shoulders, I expect to see a lot of Ray Ray tonight. He’s going to be a key player and have a significant role on defense this year. We know Ray Ray can cover, but how well does he hold up against the run tonight?
        9) The inter of the OL. This position group may be the biggest question mark on the team. The starters played poorly last week. Will we see a marked improvement in the first QTR tonight? Fingers crossed!

  4. Kind of like sneaking up on a crabber and pinching him in the hiney, the 49ers are going to pinch a lot of teams this year!

  5. As much as I would like to be sold on the 49ers making a splash this season, I just cannot get on board because there are too many question with them. If I had to pick a sleeper from the NFC, it would be two teams: the Vikings and the Rams.

    1. The Rams? Uggh. You don’t think the Rams have question marks MWD? QB, RB, OL, Aaron Donald, a lot of new faces in the secondary. All new coaching staff. Youngest HC in league history. Moving from a 4-3 to a 3-4 base defense.

Maybe they surprise this season but I think the Rams ceiling this season is 6 wins.

      1. I think we’ll attack their run defense. I think they want to see more of Hyde and Williams. Breida and Mostert could also contribute.

    1. That’s actually too bad. I wanted to see how the offense would perform against a good defense that isn’t our own.

  6. I need to see Hoyer do something this game. I see a team as 7 and 9 if we are an average team. 9 and 7 if we get a few lucky bounces.

  7. Another clean showing for Mahomes against slightly better(maybe) competition.

    1. They’re closer to being a sleeper for the #1 pick then they are a sleeper for making the tournament.

  8. I am totally crushed that the Princess Di special will be preempted by this 49er game. This is a worse situation than the Heidi bowl was.

  9. “A mild AC joint sprain (grade 1) usually takes 10 days to recover.”
    —————————
Does that come from Dr. Cohn or Dr. Google?

  10. Who wins; who cares?
    Goals:
    Avoid serious injuries
    Have the firsts play well
See the rookies have some quality plays.
    Avoid stupid penalties.
    Have some fun.

        1. Except the 49ers have another great first string slot corner now, so keep him at FS, even if he starts the season as Jerome’s backup.

  11. Maybe they should think about replacing the word “violence” in the defense with “smart”.

  12. The run defense looks better than last year when Denver would have scored on the first run.

  13. Reid needs to make that stop. Hit him a couple of yards behind the LOS but got dragged over. Not good.

  14. Reid almost got ran over, then he made a tackle from his side instead of squaring up. Then he gets pushed into the end zone. He could be so good if he didn’t play scared.

    1. Don’t kid yourself Matt, this defense is going to keep this team in a lot of games. They have to get these penalties cleaned up though.

      1. I’m sticking with my 7-9 prediction, but a couple lucky bounces here and there and who knows.

      2. This defense will be gassed 2nd half of every game because this offense will not get them off the field.

  15. Uggh, penalties, penalties, penalties. I’d say it’s time for a stern halftime speech!

  16. But McDonald kept his wits about him and realized he wasn’t down but just on top of the defender.

    1. To be fair to him. Its kind of hard to show something when your pass goes right through your receivers hands. Sigh… Vance is still Vance

  17. These penalties are now UNACCEPTABLE! Time for Kyle to throw a fit and make an example of somebody, or a group of somebodies!

    1. Hard to get in an offensive rhythm and score points when your offense is committing penalty after penalty after penalty! If they don’t get these penalties under control it doesn’t matter how well these guys play! Unacceptable!

  18. Hoyer is playing like a QB that is on his 7th team in 9 seasons but no go ahead and keep telling me how we’re going to win 9 games.

    1. How people are predicting 9 wins is beyond me. Even if Hoyer is an improvement, going from 2-9 wins is a huge turnaround.

  19. Hopefully they have been just focusing on learning the schemes and will work on details later. Such as avoiding stupid penalties. Shanny probably needs to start playing the hard asss pretty soon.

    1. I expect this team to start slowly this season. That’s just the reality of making this many changes in one offseason.

The 49ers may surprise, but let’s be patient guys. The reality is that this team is going through a transition, that’s going to take time.

  20. Anybody seeing anything from Armstead that I should feel good about? So far (including last game), I’m not impressed.

    1. There was talk at the end of last season he may not stay on the team. Nothing I’ve seen has changed my opinion there.

  21. TO and penalties will KILL any team! This is unacceptable. They have to get this cleaned up next week or I am going to rage. If your lacking talent to win a lot of games, fine. But playing sloppy football is simply not acceptable!

    1. Finally? What do you mean Larry, The Broncos are averaging 3.4 yards per play. The defense has been STOUT. It’s the turnovers and penalties that have been the difference.

  22. The Broncos are averaging 3.4 yards per play. The defense has been STOUT. It’s the turnovers and penalties that have been the difference.

    1. I think the 49ers are trying to figure out if Murphy can play. I think the top 5 WR spots are set.

    2. That’s been a bit of a surprise for me too. I would be surprised if he makes the roster as I don’t believe he plays much STs. So odd that he is being given a shot with the 1s.

  23. Good, let’s keep these 1″s in the game and work on getting this thing cleaned up.

49ers are averaging 5.4 yards per play. Denver is averaging 3.4 YpP.

The penalties and turnovers have been the difference of the game and the 49ers HAVE to get this cleaned up!

  24. John Lynch seemed to be natural in the booth. Any chance hecould be GM and color commentator? Teddy Football nauseous as ever.

    1. What’s worse is that it is starters on offense committing turnovers against backups on defense. The 49ers are far from being able to compete for the division crown.

    2. Forget the 2018 QB draft class and!@#$ Kurt Cousins as well. The 49ers have their future QB in Beathard.

  25. Time to change the channel, I’ll watch the recorded game later. I’m out. GO NINERS!

  26. Boyer is a big upgrade over last years QB.
TO’s are just killing the Niners.
    9 Wins? Don’t think so, 5-7 maybe.

    1. You have to also consider he has much better blocking and his receivers are getting wide open.

  27. There’s something to Grant’s questions about Kyle’s coaching and preparation. This team still needs every bit of time this preseason to get it together.

But Grant’s exuberance about our receivers and the Broncos D may have missed the mark a bit.

  28. Crap! Beat Hard has a goatee. Niners have not had much luck recently with QB;’s with goatee’s

  29. Sad part about all this is that if you take out the turnovers the 49ers have looked pretty good and could be right in this game. Still a lot to clean up.

    1. How much of the sloppiness do you attribute to a lack of leadership which demands accountability from all players?

      1. Less than I put on the players themselves for poor focus. Little things. Good news is these mistakes should all be pretty easily correctable.

        1. Some players just allow enthusiasm and aggressiveness to over whelm their discipline. It’s doable to have one player like that but this team seems to have more than a few.

  30. Hoyer 8/11, 89 YDs, 1 INT, 1 fumble. The fumble was inexcusable. The pick wasn’t his fault. Other than that he has been good. Accuracy and placement have been there for the most part. Vance had one go through his hands, but the throw could have been better.

  31. Hmm, maybe the RB should not fight for every inch, let himself get gang tackled and stripped of the ball.

    1. How about he just hang on to the ball instead? Like every back is coached to do, has been coached to do at every level ever since there has been a thing known as football.

    1. It’s about what you do with the opportunities you are presented with. All the receivers have been open the whole game so it should make no difference in respect to the QB’s

  32. Kittle stiff arm. Good run and pass for CJ. Good catch and run for Kittle. Excellent blocking all around. That’s 3 TDs for CJ in the preseason.

  33. I believe that the 49er offensive first team did face up some against the Denver 2nd team defense and they did not move as well as the Niner 2nd team offense..

  34. It seems the Niners are trying some veteran players out to see what they can do and maybe just forget about them at all if they don’t surprise.

We saw Louis Murphy, Kapri Bibs and Asa Jackson enter the game much earlier than expected.
And Asa Jackson is being torched out there.

    1. Also, Brock Coyle is beyond bad.
He can’t make the team, no matter how good on STs he is. We need somedy better as backup ILB.

  35. In his interviews, Navarro sometimes reminds me of Keena Turner; it’s a compliment.

  36. On Rotoworld:

Texans WR Bruce Ellington caught 4-of-5 targets for 93 yards in Saturday night’s preseason game.
Ellington was signed off the street eight days ago. The former 49ers fourth-round pick got the surprise start against the Patriots and ripped off repeated big plays, most notably a 37-yard deep ball from Tom Savage and a 33-yard catch-and-run from Deshaun Watson. Ellington is a fringe NFL player at this point, but the Texans do have some complementary receiver opportunity

  37. See the difference tonight -one organization has a deep roster & been drafting strong for years and the other had Trent Baalke

  38. Well that was interesting. The OL wasn’t as bad as advertised. Way too many penalties. Hoyer and Beathard had their moments. Hyde didn’t show much. Kittle and Juice are going to be tough to defend. Goodwin isn’t quite there yet. Pita made plays. Jerome could be better than Ward. Robinson is a work in progress. Foster can cover. Reid was all over the place, but he is still arm tackling on a lot of plays (hoping he’s saving himself for the regular season).

    1. Run game was poor like last week. Hoping that’s because there is no game planning; hoping Shanahan can scheme a better run offense.

      1. Run game was poor, but we saw more Bibbs this week than Williams and Breida. The OL didn’t allow any sacks. They weren’t particularly good or bad.

    1. Niners need to get serious about reducing the unforced errors.
      .
Coaches have poorly prepared the team, and it showed all night.
      .
Vance needs to forget about running before catching the ball. He should concentrate on catching and securing the ball, even if it means falling down.
      .
Kerley should have been screaming at Tartt to get away from the ball. Tartt needed to have better ball awareness.
      .
Right now, CJB may be out competing Hoyer. Hoyer pulled a Gabbert. When pressured, he gave the ball away.
      .
The amount of penalties were inexcusable. Niners should make a rule- If a player makes a penalty, he should run to the bench and sit down without his helmet, and have his replacement run onto the field. The coaches should then decide when to allow the player who committed the foul to return. If a player wants to remain on the field, he needs to play penalty free. If a player commits a turnover, he should do the same thing. Run to the bench and sit down. Sitting on the bench may give them incentive to reduce the unforced errors. This also goes for the QB. Hoyer does not deserve to be handed the starting job. He should accept the fact that his actions hurt the team, and they should make the QB job open to competition. Hoyer can start, but once they fail to score, the backup starts and plays until they do not score. If they want to continue to play, they need to continue to score. If a receiver drops a ball, he should run to the bench, too.
      .
This is a learning experience. They should emulate the Broncos, and fight for the ball. The Niners should hold up the ball carrier, then gang tackle him while struggling hard to strip the ball.
      .
KS said they need to get better, but I wonder if he knows how to do it.
      .
Starting fights in practice was counter productive, because it gave the Broncos tons of motivation. The Niners should have kicked the Niner fighters out of the practice.

  39. I think Denver read enough about the Niners dominating them in practice! That looked like a perennial division champion out playing and basically schooling a completely out of sync, undisciplined football team. But, that is what preseason is all about. Learn from your mistakes and hopefully continue to improve. Forget all the stats and even the score. It’s all vanilla and not comparable to what teams will feature on offense and defense when the games count. What is concerning and comparable is the overall lack of composure and toughness compared to the Broncos. Denver showed them up and kicked their ass. The Niner quarterbacks were average, the interior OL was manhandled, the run game was again non-existent, and the excessive penalties are unacceptable. The starting defense wasn’t bad when you consider the positions they were put in, but the two’s and three’s were a sieve. Reid was the best player on the field tonight for the Niners. Kittle had a nice catch and bulldozing run. The cheerleaders looked fabulous. That’s about it for me. Let me guess Grants report card.
    QUARTERBACKS: C
    RECEIVERS: C
    RUNNING BACKS: F
    OFFENSIVE LINE: D
    DEFENSIVE LINE: D
    LINEBACKERS: C
    DEFENSIVE BACKS: D
    SAFETIES: B
    SPECIAL TEAMS: B
    COACHING: F
    OVERALL: D

    1. I would give STs a C, because they seemed to have a penalty every KO, and Tartt let that punt hit him. I would have said they deserve a D, but Bolden and his TD KO, raised it to a C.
      .
I agree with all of your other grades.

  40. Grant, you still are looking down at us, put the phone about 6″ higher
The shirt and tie makes you look like a sunday school boy
White Tshirt and jacket suits you better
Were there people watching? you seemed more nervous.

  41. I must say, while I thought the press room back drop was better than ceiling tiles, it reminded me too much of the coaches and players, and after this last game, I was not impressed with them.
    .
Maybe Grant could come up with a better format. Still think a poster would be adequate and give him a personal touch.

  42. It will be interesting to see how the Niners handle adversity. KS should not let a media guy get under his skin. He should not get mad. He should be even keeled, imperturbable, unflappable and calm.
    .
    Levi’s looked like a mausoleum.
