49ers promise to break silence this evening

The 49ers are scheduled to end their orchestrated public silence today at 5 p.m. (PT). Team president and CEO Jed York has promised to join reporters on a conference call.

All questions have gone unanswered since news broke here Wednesday of general manager Scot McCloughan’s clouded future with the 49ers. It is unclear, exactly, how detailed York will be in speaking with the media later today. But even a “no comment” on the record, straight from York, is more than the organization has provided thus far.

It is clear McCloughan will not be back with the 49ers. Both sides seem to agree on that point. Now, it’s just a matter of semantics. Seemingly, the only way to avoid protracted litigation would be for the sides to reach a settlement.
