Deebo Samuel To Skip 49ers Workouts

Deebo Samuel is choosing to run a different route.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Samuel is not expected to participate in the 49ers on-field workouts during the offseason program.

Samuel will forgo a $50,000 workout bonus by choosing to skip workouts.

Choosing not to participate in on-field activities is the second display of Samuel’s discontent with the status of negotiations. Earlier this month, Samuel removed his 49ers profile picture and nearly every photo of himself in a 49ers uniform.

Choosing not to participate doesn’t mean an extension for Samuel is off the table, but it is a change from recent history. The two previous draft picks of the current regime to come up for big extensions, George Kittle and Fred Warner, took different paths than Samuel.

George Kittle attended all team offseason activities during contract negotiations in 2020. His case is a bit different as official team meetings were all done virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Kittle set up and participated in workouts with teammates in Nashville to help prepare for the upcoming season.

In 2021, Fred Warner showed up for team workouts and participated in on-field activities while negotiating a new agreement.

Kittle and Warner each signed their extensions later in the summer. Kittle signed on August 14, 2020, and Warner on July 21, 2021.

The next milestone in negotiations between the 49ers and the wide receiver will come with the NFL Draft next week.

If the 49ers don’t believe a deal can be reached with Samuel, they would likely try to find his replacement in the draft. Therefore, if he is on the team at the end of next Friday night, Samuel will probably play for San Francisco in 2022.

Stay tuned.

Deboo deserves to get paid, but he’s not worth $30 Mil. P/Y (Tyreek Hill’s new salary).
Lynch should call the NY Jets HC Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas and make a trade:
NY Jets get Deboo Samuel and the 9ers get the Jets 2022 1St Rd draft pick #10 and 4th Rd draft pick #111.

        1. Don’t get me wrong…arbitrary question coming your way…Is Deebo more valuable to the 9er’s under contract? Or..is he more valuable on Draft Day as trade bait?….I really like his game, and the enthusiasm and drive he plays with..but…
My gut tells me that he’s a hell of a lot more valuable as trade bait, more so than he is under contract….
Too many holes to fill…no cap space to sign quality vets to fill the holes…even when JG is off the books…trade him for the right price

  2. I say don’t pay him and trade him after the season.

    He is no Jerry Rice

I was a huge fan until he said 49er fans are racist – He needs to show us receipts or apologize to 49er fans

    1. Do you doubt he’s telling the truth? He’s not calling all fans racist but maybe a couple of comments were not appropriate.

    2. Samuel didn’t call 49ers fans racist. He said he’d received racist comments. He’s not lying. I sent a tweet late last week showing how his numbers stack up against the other 3 who received big money deals this offseason and had responses which were racist.

QUESTION #1: Do you believe Deebo is worth $30 Mil. P/Y? (Tyreek hill salary). If Not, what
        do believe Deebo is worth?
QUESTION #2: If the NFL salary cap of $208.2 only allows the 9er FO to extend Deebo or
Bosa, in your opinion, which one should they pay?

        1. 1) Yes. His numbers through the first 3 years compare favorably to Hill, Adams, and Diggs. Hill became the second highest paid WR when he signed his second deal. The most recent with Miami is his third contract.

          2) Deebo Samuel. Samuel is heading into the final season of his contract. The 49ers could choose to use the 5th year option on Bosa and get that deal done next offseason. Staggering the two would be a good idea.

          1. There is no Deebo without Kyle Shanahan

Name 1 out of the 32 teams who thought Deebo was worth a 1st rd pick – YOU CAN’T

  3. Deebo’s love for the game is playing against him in these negotiations. The 49ers know he isn’t going to hold out all season or for any games during the regular season. They know Deebo isn’t a diva, he’s a dog. Ultimately, the 49ers will get him for what they want.

The 49ers can see right through the phony off the field persona that has developed.
