  1. Nope. I’m still not over it. Haven’t felt that kind of heartache since the last Super Bowl. Note to Shanny. Next time it’s 4 and inches, run the QB sneak….

    1. I have to agree with you, Razoreater. As soon as I saw the decision was to kick from there rather than go for it, I knew it wasn’t going to work out. I think the failure to convert on 4th and 2 earlier affected that decision. So I see it a bit like Shanahan needs to apply what he says to the players about not getting hung up on a previous play. Of course if they didn’t pull it off that would have looked like a bad call, as well. But my gut feeling was that they would have been able to get the 1st and close the distance to the uprights substantially from there. Not saying if I was actually in the situation where I had to make that call I would have had that same clarity, though.

  2. Tough loss for sure…I have a couple Seahack buddies that were smack talkin and to the moon…..

  3. KS had another deja vu moment. In the SB, he dialed up 3 passes, and Ryan was sacked out of field goal range.
    .
In this game, KS dialed up 3 pass plays that took 17 seconds off the play clock, with the Seahawks powerless to stop the clock. KS is guilty of poor clock management.
    .
Sure, he wanted to be bold, but he should have gone for it on 4th down, instead of relying on a 47 yard field goal try (and fail) from a rookie kicker just off the street. If JG could have managed to get that 4th down, the Niners could have driven closer to the end zone, and given that kicker an easier try, while running time off the clock so the Seahawks would have had no time to get into field goal range.
    .
Some said that KS should be commended for trying to win. I counter by saying that he should have tried harder to prevent a loss. By tying, the Niners would have been in a much more advantageous position.
    .
Some say it was bad luck that all 3 passes were incompletions. I counter by saying that luck occurs when preparation meets opportunity. Bad luck occurs with poor preparations, and a failure to take advantage of opportunities. Obviously, KS went brain dead, and did not think things through. Running the ball would have also given them a chance to win, but more importantly, prevented the Seahawks from possibly winning.
    .
In any risk/reward situation, both sides need to be thought out carefully. Maybe KS needs to concentrate on being the HC, instead of thinking like an OC.
    .
The Niners snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, or at least a tie. To me, a tie would have been much more preferable to a loss. Hopefully, KS will learn from this mistake, but since he seems to repeat his mistakes, I am not going to hold out much hope that he improves. The Niner defense played their hearts out, and deserved better.

    1. Please buy my upcoming book: “An Ode to Kanye” where I discuss my humble beginnings and parallels to how I am misunderstood by the masses; but quietly a humble genius.
      .
All proceeds go towards flying Grant to New Orleans (coach of course) to hot mic the game in a few weeks.

      1. True, it’s just a guess, but I’d venture that KS is about 100 times more successful at what he does for a living vs. what you do. For you to adopt this “wiser than thou” approach is just laughable. And a little sad, I must say.

        1. The book is only $9.95 for a paperback copy.

I try to be best for my fans. In the Art of War the master Sun Tzu comes upon a Shih Tzu and chaos ensues. Out of this confusion a bond is born, and it is in that spirit I try to cast my goodwill to all of you.

Leave an email address where I can send a copy.

            1. Okay, I would be willing to adjust my offer a bit and pay you $9.95 to read it provided you would be willing to leave a detailed positive review.
              .
              We have a deal, yes?

              1. Seb’s never read the phiosophical greats. Reading his book is synonomous to the blind leading the blind.

Watching replays of Martha Steward would be more educational.

    2. I agree and disagree , Sebnynah. Because it is Russell Wilson, definitely take time off the clock. I felt strongly before the kick that not going for it was the wrong call. But I don’t think going for a tie is better.

Seattle would be looking for the run so it makes sense that alone would help open up a pass play. I believe the sneak would have succeeded and so eaten up the time. But if it failed, it looks just as bad as the missed kick did, and so everyone would be screaming about why didn’t they just kick it. I’m sure the Clowny factor affected that decision. It is possible that they come up short. But I had a strong gut on this one that they would have converted.

  4. The 49er receiver corps need to step up.. That said, Garoppolo is very inconsistent in terms of accuracy. Consistently inferior on passes downfield 20 yards plus. Shanahan has managed him masterfully. The question is does he give the 49ers the best chance to win? 14-3 as a starter you would think so.

This is an historic defense. Do you stand pat with Garoppolo? I think the next several games will make things clear. If Garoppolo succesfully manages the offense vs Green Bay, New Orleans and Baltimore, he is your quarterback. If not then you must play Mullins to determine which guy gives you the best chance of winning Playoff games.

The window of performance opens and closes very quickly in the modern era due to free agency and salary cap. You cannot waste an opportunity because you fear a change for fear itself or the criticism it may generate.

Jimmy needs to put up or shut up, IMO… There is a guy on the bench who showed last season what he could do with a lot fewer tools and nowhere near the defense.. Jimmy needs to up his game, show he can beat good football teams or it’s next man up.. Don’t squander a Super Bowl defense on a guy who cannot beat teams with his arm or take care of the football.. It’s time for Jimmy to prove he can beat elite teams down the stretch..

    1. Actually it would be a HUUUUGE mistake to switch to Mullins at this point in the season (or later). The test against those division leaders is real, but seriously, you are suggesting switching the starting QB after that? Jimmy G’s play would have to be abysmal, which it isn’t. When throwing to receivers who are able to hang on to close to 80% of their passes the offense has been having success. He has been making better decisions and improving. Everyone looks worse when they are getting heavy pressure and he has mostly handled that well. Russell Wilson is probably the best in the league and he had a pick and a costly fumble in this game as well.

I do agree Jimmy G does need to protect the ball better in the backfield than he did at times in this game. Two fumble turnovers will greatly diminish the chance of winning any game. I don’t know what he could do about the ball getting popped up in the air like that, on that pic. That one was a tad high and thrown hard, but I don’t think that is on him. He was performing worse earlier in the season, though at times in this game there seemed to be some regression. But I believe he is dialing it in. He was out for a while. Mullins would not likely be able to step in at any point and do better.

  5. Ok, So i couldnt watch the full periscope. Super long. Fast forwarded to the NFL exporter guy. Really like that guy. Straight analysis with no bias. Seems like a guy who is good with sharp analysis. Going to actually start checking this guy out prior to putting a few diet cokes on the line.

I don’t usually get caught up in NFL squabbles outside the 49ers but I have to say Mason Rudolph is a straight up coward B***h. This dude started a fire and then ran around like a little B, hiding behind lineman and begging the ref to save his sorry A**. That the NFL did not suspend this Dbag may be the greatest example of QB privilege in the history of the NFL. Dude pulled a facemask, maybe poked an eye, threw punches, kicked a player in the nuts and he’s not suspended. Total BS by the NFL. Mason Rudolph deserves a multi game suspension. That he can go to a press conference and call a man a coward after Rudolph is the guy who started the whole thing is total BS. I have absolutely zero respect for Mason Rudolph and I will be rooting for him to be looking at the sky after every NFL snap this coward takes for the rest of his career.

  6. Sent message to 49er HQ about acquiring big-bodied WR– TO– to beat Seattle’s Press coverage to open things up more for Kittle and Sanders, since our other WR’s are non-factors against elite teams.

If Seattle gets in TO’s face he’ll just shove them out of the way, turning a 3rd and 7 slant into a TD.
Our other WR’s (except Deebo/Sanders/Kittle) can’t even get off the LOS, many of whom are now injured.

TO would be great insurance if others go down.

  7. Been off the grid for several days. No better way to dive back in than to predict a 9er win vs. AZ — 9ers 30, Cards 19.

Game will be closer than score indicates–another very physical and somewhat messy victory. Perhaps an injury to another starter. Hope not.

    1. “Be careful, sir,” said the squire. “Those are not giants, but windmills, and what seem to be their arms are the sails which turn the millstone.”
      .
“If you are afraid of them, then go say your prayers,” said Don Quixote. “But I shall engage them in battle.” Immediately, he spurred his horse forward, and, paying no attention to Sancho Panza’s shouted warnings, he cried, “Do not run, you cowards, for a lone knight assails you!” Just then a slight wind caused the windmills to begin turning. “I fear you not, though you have more arms than the giant Briareus,” cried the knight. “I ride forth in the name of fair Dulcinea!” Covering himself with his shield and thrusting forth his lance, he spurred Rocinante toward the nearest windmill. His lance pierced one of the whirling sails, which immediately wrenched it with such force that the horse was dragged along and the knight sent rolling across the ground. He lay without moving as Sancho Panza trotted to his side.
      .
“Oh dear,” said Sancho, “didn’t I warn your worship to watch what you were doing when attacking those windmills?”
      .
“I believe,” replied the knight, “that some evil enchanter turned those giants into windmills to rob me of a glorious victory. But I shall prevail over him in the end.”
      .
“As God wills,” said Sancho, helping the knight to his feet. They climbed upon Rocinante and Dapple once more and continued on their way.

          1. And we are supposed to be impressed by TrollD, who delusionally raved about breaking into gun safes and creating nightmares?

          2. I have read the Art of War thrice and completely backwards.
            .
I have incorporated Sun Tzu’s teachings in my landscaping business.
            .
An example of one such teaching:
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.”
            .
I have purchased and installed a dash cam on my riding mower. This little artifact may seem harmless but what the gophers do not know is I have download and watched film of my last ride and their movements throughout the week.
            .
Next week when I tackle the same lawn again, I will know exactly which holes to plug.
            .
Shanahan would be smart to take my advice and incorporate Master Sun Tzu teachings in the 49ers attack philosophy.

  8. Despite the WR’s couldn’t catch a cold, a offensive line that was offensive, RB’s couldn’t run, a QB who was less then stellar and a OC that bungled some play calls, despite all that the Niners almost won that game last week.

  9. For you mathematicians.
Jimmy has played in 35 NFL games. 19 of those are starts. He’s 16-3 in those starts. He’s thrown 31 TD’s and has 16 INT’s. He’s 8-1 this year.

Nick has played in 9 games. 8 of those are starts. He’s 3-5 in those starts. He has thrown 13 TD’s and 10 INT’s. He’s 0-0 this year. Hasn’t taken a snap when it counts and you want to throw him in there now, or soon when the toughest part of their schedule appears? Please. It would be a disaster.

They’re 8-1 and the only loss is against one of the best teams in the NFC, if not the NFL, in OT no less. Yet, numbskulls are still calling for the mediocre, if that, backup QB? Seriously? Come on. Get real.

Is Jimmy (and co.) good enough to win the SB? The jury is still out. They have problems like every team. However, Jimmy gives them their best chance to win, period. I still say they’ll end up 11-5. They are going to win this week and then lose three in a row. Oh God!! Then we’ll really hear the calls for Nicky. Just stop already! Enjoy the great season they are having and stop calling for a little used mediocre eternal backup QB! It’s NOT going to happen! Not unless Jimmy gets hurt, God forbid. Lets hope that doesn’t happen.

PS. My HS field goal kicker routinely made field goals over 40 yards, easily ( including 46 Yd’s in a pressure packed CCS Playoff game that would have been good from 55) before kicking for USC. No excuse for a professional kicker, rookie or not, to miss one that bad. Ridiculous. He’d be the first one to tell you that. They should be 9-0 and Jimmy should be 17-2.

    1. Agreed Juan. Do you think the 49ers should sign TO to beat press coverage? His work out video looked awesome on 49er Webzone.

Meanwhile, what do you make of Seb and his catfish reinterpreting the philosophical greats like Plato, Socrates, and Sun Tzu?…Have they ever been withing 10 ft. of a philosophy course?

    2. Mullens right now can do better than the $137M overpaid prettyboy. Forget old stats that don’t mean squat now. JG didn’t carry the team to wins, just part of it, so those wins were more from the D and running game.

      1. Dan yes I agree…..this is one of the few blogs that are PRO JimmyP…..the other blogs want Mullins….they can save 25 Million by getting rid of good Jimmy bad Jimmy with the money saved bring in WR’s and OLineman….

The defense has done very very well the offense not so well….now the schedule gets tough so the question is???

Can Jimmy put the team on his back, be a leader and win games ???? He played poorly last game…..if you saw the game film it is frustrating watching him throw to the wrong guy all game..sheeeesh….

Hey the jury is out but the next 4-5 games WILL give the answer….

  10. In response to some other comments, I had advocated for Nick Mullens after JG threw 5 picks in practice, because I thought that JG just was not ready to play. It would have been better to let JG heal fully, and get his confidence back. However, JG has played well, and has shown he can take the hits, without worrying about his knee. These recent calls for Mullens are based more on emotions, rather than logic and reasoning.
    .
No one should call on JG being replaced after last game. He did enough to win, but his stone hands WRs and Turnstile O line let him down. Even the coaches went brain dead. If only they had run the ball, they were guaranteed a tie, with a chance to win. KS, in his infinite wisdom, reverted back to the SB KS, and handed the ball to Russell Wilson, an MVP candidate.
    .
Would it have been better to go for it on 4th down? We will never know, but KS obviously thought his team could not gain half a yard. Instead, he relied on a raw rookie kicker, who walked in off the streets, because he had no faith in his offense. Being bold would have been the better option, since they lost, but KS is the one making those decisions, so he has to accept responsibility for the outcome. I felt it was another deja vu moment.
    .
Kickers are supposed to make all of their kicks? Tell that to the Bear’s kickers. -Chris Blewitt, Shank Wideright and Double Doink.

  11. Tom, yes, at this point I would. I saw every one of TO’s home games at the ‘stick in person, and despite his antics on and off the field, he was one of the greatest players I ever witnessed. I saw the catch part 2 from Steve Y against GB and the incredible game against the NYG’s when TO and Jeff G won that playoff game literally by themselves. Similar to Bonds, who in my mind at a minimum, was the king of “a-holeness”, for most of his career, I still stopped what I was doing to watch him perform and was glad he was on my team, despite all of his baggage. I think both have grown up. Both are in great shape. TO is still an adonis. Barry is avid cyclist now (one of my good friends has provided him with gear occasionally) and I’ve seen him up close here in SR at Levi’s race and he looks like he’s 25. He could probably still hit more HR’s than anyone currently on the Giants roster. I’d sign TO today. I think he’d be better than anyone on the roster and he would be a mentor to the youngsters.

  12. Seb, off the streets is not really true. Wasn’t this his 4th team? Wasn’t he the Big 10 kicker of the year? I’m sure his HS career was exemplary. The bottom line is kickers aren’t paid to make 50 yarders or extra points when the score is 38-3, in reality they’re paid a huge amount of money
to make 47 yarders with game on the line.

    1. Juan, kickers are not infallible. Just look at the statistics.
      .
Only 7 kickers are perfect from between 40 and 49 yards. 33 kickers have missed at least one kick between 40 and 49 yards. Robbie Gould is 50% at that distance, and 0% past 50 yards.
      .
Only half the kickers are perfect kicking extra points.
      .
There is a reason why McLaughlin failed with 4 other teams.

    2. Juan, also I would encourage you to read the Art of War backwards, as in, back to front. While some might say this is standard Chinese I beg to differ.
      .
There are some key insights to be had that the Chinese aristocracy did not pick up by reading it in the traditional format.
      .
OTOH I took the opportunity to look behind the veiled teachings and formed my own theories of modern garden warfare.
