I’m not sure what you were seeing. Thomas beat Tomlinson the second time in their reps against each other, and the first rep could easily be split either way. Both times he forced the QB up in the pocket to avoid him, especially on that second rep. Surely that is a win for the pass rush, no?
Thomas is a bust!
;>)
The two reps for Thomas against Tomlinson looked about the same as the two reps for Buckner against #68
Buckner got to the QB. Thomas didn’t.
On which rep? Both times the QB barely moved
On the first rep, Buckner pushed Person into the QB’s lap.
So the QB slides. Either way, it’s not better than Thomas’ reps where he forced the QB to step up.
And now I see you’ve already plowed this ground with Scoots.
Thanks for the videos.
I hear you. Fair enough. Thanks for your perspective.
I see what you’re saying. Thomas opened up Tomlinson both times. But Tomlinson recovered and pushed Thomas out of the play both times as well.
What’s stood out to you in the way the pass rushers are coached with Kiffin as opposed to last year?
Thomas is only rushing from the interior during 1 on 1s.
That’s where he’ll earn his respect on passing downs.
Sure, but both times the QB had to step up to avoid him. Especially the second rep. Tomlinson only pushes him behind because the QB steps up. That’s quick pressure from the 3T spot too. Play disruption.
Yeah, he almost got home, but didn’t.
I saw the exact same thing as you. If you force the qb to step up in the pocket you are applying pressure. Thomas forced him to step up quickly.
So if they don’t get the sack they lose the rep?
I wouldn’t call those reps wins for Thomas. His initial burst was good, but he didn’t finish.
Hmmm, I certainly wouldn’t say Tomlinson won the rep either, which you did. And in a team situation getting that quick pressure to force the QB to step up early, into say Buckner, is a win.
Good points. I was wrong to call it a win for Tomlinson. Thanks for calling me out. I’d say it wasn’t a clear-cut win for either. Tomlinson clearly struggled today.
Yeah, that’s pretty much spot on. No clear winner. Last thing I will say though is that while there was no clear winner, it was still a better set of reps for Thomas than Tomlinson. At least imo.
You’re right. Thomas played well today. Tomlinson didn’t. Thanks for opening my eyes.
Welcome. And as always, thanks for the reports.
I wonder how much Thomas weighs…
He looks skinny.
Thomas clearly looks improved (quicker and more skilled now). I know it’s just practice reps but he is progressing.
Thanks for all the great work Grant! I dig the Periscope reports!
Some have speculated that the 2 ends would set the edge, and let Buckner collapse the pocket. That is the exact strategy the Niners have employed against RW of the Seahawks. It certainly is not a new innovative scheme.
.
While it is nice to see the pass rushers get to the QB, it is a little disconcerting to see the O linemen struggle. Hope once the line up is set, the O linemen can develop some teamwork and cohesion. Glad to hear that Richberg is doing well.
