Spinning it

Jake Haener and Tanner McKee both looked solid. McKee has the look of an NFL quarterback. The Stanford product showed off a strong arm, especially on deep throws along the sideline.

Haener put the ball on receivers throughout the throwing session. When asked about his size and arm the Fresno State quarterback said he feels he can “spin it with anyone in this draft class.”

According to Haener he scored in the 97th percentile on the S2 cognition test. The test rates the athlete’s ability to process and react. Haener’s score is in the range that Brock Purdy posted last year.  Haener said he expects to be selected in the third or fourth round.

Hardwood to hard hits

One of the more interesting players on hand was Andre Kelly. A native of Stockton, Kelly had spent the last five years playing basketball at California and UC Santa Barbara.

Kelly worked out with the tight ends and the adjustment to catching the football was a bit rough as a couple passes slipped out of his grasp.

Just kicking it

The 49ers traded for Zane Gonzalez, but according to John Lynch the team is still looking for a replacement to Robbie Gould.

Peyton Henry, a Danville native who played for Washington nailed a 50-yard attempt to end a solid session.

Not participating

Five of the players on hand did not participate in on field drills.

Rejzohn Wright (Oregon St), Henry To’o To’o (Alabama), Viliami Fehoko (San Jose St), Isiah Foskey (Notre Dame), and Michael Wilson (Stanford) chose to skip workouts, but spent the day meeting with 49ers officials.

  1. The Poll has been the same for the last 3 1/2 years. Not even sure which Super Bowl it initially concerned. Stale, stale, stale. Jack, suggest you change, update the poll regularly to ensure greater online participation, engagement, interest on the part of your blog goers and supporters. Or just drop it entirely. Doesn’t make sense to keep it as is.

  2. Also, the poll is a jinx!!! Who walks around boasting about such a thing? Silly nonsense.

  3. No Elijah Higgins? At 6’3” and 235lbs, real big for a wideout, but he could be a good TE candidate….other than #85, Higgins probably has better hands than the the other TE’s on the roster…but, blocking skills could be an issue..

  4. NOT TO RAIN ON THE 9ERS PRO DAY PARADE, BUT…….
Rarely, if ever, have the 49ers invite back anyone from these annual auditions. Since arriving in 2017, the 49ers’ current regime HAS NOT drafted anyone who’s participated in their local pro day!
But OH WELL, it’s good publicity and everyone had fun!
