Alex Smith will not be flying to Seattle this week, contrary to earlier reports.
That’s because the Seahawks just signed free agent quarterback Matt Flynn to a three-year, $26 million contract ($10 million guaranteed), according to Adam Schefter.
If the Niners sign Peyton Manning, Smith’s final option could be to sign with the desperate Dolphins.
It feels like the world is closing in on Smith. Who knows, he could become Jason Campbell very soon.

49ers RSS feed
I feel bad for Alex. It’s a business though. If the Niners don’t land Manning, he will be back with nothing more than a bruised ego though.
Oh Boy, Alex what have you gotten yourself into by not taking the 3yr contract in Dec. Smart Guy = Very Poor Decision = Fired
Go to Mia or resign with SF with PM or without PM? If your me, id take my chances re-signing with SF to be PM backup vs compete with Matt Moore in Miami.
Great leverage for SF either way. If PM signs elsewhere, you can short AS 3yr deal down to 5m per year, he has nothing left for leverage, hes F’d
Scotty McLoughlin , who drafted Alex (and now is a personnel director for the Seahawks) doesn’t appear to want him either, but would rather have an inexperienced QB (Flynn) who has started only 2 games in his professional career? Alex should have signed the Niners offer when they had it on the table. This whole thing may not end well for Alex or the Niners if PM goes to Tennessee or Denver.
Darn, wanted to play him twice a yr and have our defense burry him 6 feet under.
whoops bury
You sound really upset with Smith to say bury, something personal or just really, really, really dont like the guy?
@Latino Heat,
I don’t dislike him as a person, he just is not a very good QB, 29th best offense in the league,never threw for one 300 yard game in his career, horrifc red zone player and worst QB in the league on third down conversions, anyway I still not convinced that Manning will sign with the Niners, he can come back , slight door openning but I hope not.
I’m with you Neal, smith going to seattle would knock the seahawks out of division contention for years!
Seattle has a good WR corps. The Niners finally got one this offseason. So why is that Smith’s fault?
“It feels like the world is closing in on Smith”
Lawls at the hyperbole. I love this palce; it’s like a school newspaper covering a NFL team.
…lol
Bar None your just mad he’s stating the obvious about your inaccurate boyfriend alex smith. Does alex kiss your forehead when he’s trying to kiss your lips?
I sense you’re (note the contraction) projecting with this post. Maybe something latent and unresolved?
My hope for the 49ers in 2012: Start Kap. Let’s see what the kid has. If JH can manage Smith, he can manage the young guy.
@Grant
Don’t you mean Niners are out of options?
If they don’t land PM, and AS does not come back, hoow are the Niners any better off than AS?
Smith can go to Miami still. Niners have nothing now if PM goes someplace else.
If they felt CK was ready, then Niners should not have gone after PM.
anybody better then Mr. Smith
Say that after another subpar season.
…Grant knows Manning will choose the 9ers cuz he has a source very close to the negotiations….
……Grant is a genius…….
They didn’t go after PM because CK wasn’t ready. They went after PM because hes PM. Every move that JH and TB have made so far indicates that they have confidence in CK and that he is the very near future
Let me remind you DS. You seem to think that we got to the nfc championship because AS was a game manager. You are so mistaken its not even worth trying to explain it to you. If we dont get PM, with that running game, play calling and defense, we can fit other QBs in AS’s place
@jsand
You seem to think PM is a good playoff QB.
He sucks! He falls apart. And this time, that might actually be literal.
OK DS,
All you need to say is that you’d rather have AS than PM in the playoffs for this argument to be over. There’s no arguing with that because its just so utterly insane
@jsand
I have said that quite a lot. Maybe not with you, but I have more than 1 post where I stated that.
I can live without the worst red-zone and 3rd down offense in the league and being afraid to hit his targets so he hits his 3rd option for short yardage gain — always resulting in our kicker to win games for us.
@DS,
“He sucks! He falls apart. And this time, that might actually be literal”
I know you were talking about Peyton but to me it is a perfect description of Alex.
Lots of QBs that could develop via trade. If manning goes to Tenn, then Hasselback becomes available and is essentially AS caliber, there is the draft (lots of QBs there), there is trading a pick of a QB who is not available, but when a pick is dangled, then there he is…available. Niners have more options that Alex Smith.
For the record, I think PM goes to Tenn or SF and Tenn is nowhere near a playoff team. Case Closed…PM wants to Win…he will be in SF when its all said and done. Ill bet on that.
You forgot and left out little City in the Rockies….it’s know as “Denver”
Tenn was 9-7 last year and finished one game out of first.
I’d say that is “near” being a playoff team.
DS, desparate meanderings…
C’mon DS, all will be alright with PM, 49ers, and Alex Smith.
When the dust settles, they will all have made the right decision.
AES
You didn’t really think this thru at all if PM does not sign.
Good thing JH and TB probably did…
You do know that AES isnt the GM right?
@jsand
It is a huge risk.
And people who know they take risks know that they may not win them, and face the consequences of losing that gamble.
Don’t pretend that this is a little, no nothing deal. Even if AS comes back, he will have this in the back of his mind from now on.
That trust the team had with one another is the largest risk this team took. And if they fail to even land PM, what does that say about promises. Every player in that locker room will remember what happened here, and any further negotiations between them and the team….this will be brought up, even if not in words.
The Niners were the most complete “team” last year. I think largely because of AS. The team rallying behind him. Camp Alex. The team got closer with one another than they ever had been before.
How does this continue that same close comrade?
Im sure they’ll figure out how to get by… These are grown men who are professionals who have even made statements about upgrading certain areas that we were lacking last year. That offense was pretty dreadful last year. Your blind infatuation with AS gives non credit to the defense and SP. Those are the reasons why we won, not AS.
If they dont sign Peyton Manning Colin Kaepernick has more talent in his pinkie toe than alex smith has in his whole frail body. I know he can easily duplicate alex’s pedestrian numbers of last year only he has a better arm so more plays down field. Nobody is gonna miss alex except a few of his male groupies on these message boards. Bye Bye Bust!!!!
DS, I think you’re overdramatizing it just a bit. This is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity man.
jsand
The whole NFL are full of pros. That does not make them right about everything.
Please explain to me the Vikings the past 4 years or so, if you will. How did they go from up an coming to bottom of the ditch? Did they employ people who suddenly suck? Or did people make the wrong decisions?
I’m betting on the people making the wrong decisions.
DS – Singletary/McCloughan nitwits are gone! Harbaugh/Baalke know what the hell they’re doing!
Why worry so much?
@montanaman
Yes. Getting the dynasty back is a once in a lifetime event (well, maybe once every 10-20 year event).
If they screw this up, we won’t be winning the Super Bowl anytime soon guys. Great D or not.
Look back really carefully at PM’s playoff games. In his whole career, did he have a playoff game like AS’s? Now PM in the regular season is almost a Titan. But, in the playoffs? No. Not close.
There is a reason why people say the “best regular season QB in history” when talking about PM. Did you all forget that?
There is a reason why JM is called the best QB in history. And it wasn’t because he threw for a gazillion yards in the regular season (he never came close). It is because JM in the playoffs is the best of all time.
PM is not going to suddenly “get it” now. His career would be coming to an end in a few years anyway without the neck injury. It is very hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Especially ones that he has worked on his whole life and never improved on.
DS,
The Vikings? . How are they even comparable to the niners? They have a bad defense, special teams and mediocre to bad offense.
@ds
ummmm i was actually talking about the players chemistry, guess you missed that
tell me what does this say about the teams chemistry, DS
“Gore told the Associated Press that it’s hard not to be excited about the prospect of adding Peyton Manning to a team that was already good enough to go to the NFC Championship Game.
“He’s a Hall of Famer, first ballot, that’s all I got to say,” Gore said. “He’s one of the best ever to play the game.”
and hes not the only 9ers to make these type of comments.
Look back really carefully at PM’s playoff games. In his whole career, did he have a playoff game like AS’s? Now PM in the regular season is almost a Titan. But, in the playoffs? No. Not close.
I’m a huge Manning fan, said that in other posts. I’m well aware of his struggles in the playoffs. But him on the 9ers is better than any of them Colts teams. He’s never had a defense like this. Can you imagine what our defense will do this year. They’ll be complaining about not being on the field long enough to get stats so they can get probowl votes. This won’t be the colts. It will be more like Elway winning superbowls late in his career cuz they finally got him a team.
@Crab15
Sing and Nolan stank. Well, Nolan was actually decent until he threw AS under the bus.
Sing was decent until he had to make decisions. Then he really stank it up.
@jsand
“How are they even comparable to the Niners? They have a bad defense, special teams and mediocre to bad offense.”
I was talking about the Vikings just before they got BF and what has happened since that point to the franchise. Just a couple of years ago, they had great defense, ST, offense. And as you pointed out, look at them now.
That team was an up and comer. Everybody thought so. Then the Vikings gambled it all on BF getting us to the promise land (even though, he has the same stinky performances that PM has in the playoffs though not quite so bad).
BF threw that NFC game away, came back the next year and really stank it up.
Since that time, the Vikings are a bad team. They went from an up and coming team to a bad team in no time at all. The experts all thought that the Vikings would contend heavily for the Super Bowl the following year…boy were they wrong.
The Niners actually got to the NFC Title game without the old vet QB. Why go get one now? Especially one whose whole history is full of him blowing it, at the cost of losing the guy who got you there?
Perhaps if that same QB was still under contract, and a HOF QB who you thought was better became available, you make that move. If the HOF QB blew it, you still have the guy who got you there before on the team. Heck, you could trade the old QB for some picks or something as well. But, that is not the case we have.
@jsand
So, what happens if the Niners don’t get PM then?
Team chemistry wise. Will it be better, the same or worse than it was last year?
I’m betting worse. Hopefully I’m wrong. But, kinda doubt it.
You obviously have no faith in Harbaugh and Baalke.
Must be driving you insane trying to connect the dots…..all of which seem to draw the conclusion that you are WRONG about almost everything 49ers.
I think if you connect the dots it says that JH/TB do not think anywhere near as much of AS as some here think/hope.
49ergirl, some people just blah blah blah all the time and label others haters for expressing their opinions. What is so interesting PM a four time mvp and a future hall of fame QB that all the experts including Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Jim H and TB preceive highly is labeled suck!!! whatever! 49ers will be fine with or without PM or Alex Smith. GO NINERS
Damn. Mr. Smith is not going to Washington, we know that the Seahawks don’t think highly of Mr. Smith.
Good for matt flynn. Hes a starter now. Crazy thing is he was supposed to parle that 2 game tryout into big dollars in free agency. Turns out he only got 2 more than smith, even togh smith is a proven player. I dont feel bad for smith, he is a millionaire but ppl think he is being done wrong. Kind of reminds me of the steve marriucci crisis. But smith will land somewhere. And i expecy for the1st time in 8 years nothing will be givin to him. he will actually have to fight for a job. That is unless he does make his way back to the niners. Then
My gut tells me Manning to Tennessee, Hasselbeck to Cleveland and the Niners will be left with Kaepernick and Tolzien. That could also be the peanut butter cups I just ate.
My gut is telling me Manning to the 9ers, AS to Denver to compete with Tebow for the starting gig.
You eat anything unhealthy to lead you to those ideas?
Funny thing! I just had a couple mini peanut butter cups too!
I guess we’ll see which was tainted.
Once again he will be GIVEN the job. hes never been challenged. Thats gotta be bad for the phyche
Poor guy is like a lost little puppy dog trying to find his way home now ,but where is home now?
Yo Alex! Got someone from the Allen Wranglers on the line.
“Manning expressed a desire to get a feel for a team’s facilities, staff and surroundings during his visits. “He really wanted to see how comfortable he could be there,” one source said. “It was all football.”
Once he see’s our 5 Lombardi trophies, all the pictures on the walls of the greats that played before him…..Manning is a 9er!
DS…. I think u got that backwards; if they felt alex was ready agin, and be better than last year they wouldnt have gone after manning. You guys are acting like we are loosing a hall of famer. If he leaves we are loosing a 3rd tier qb who got better when harbaugh came in an held his hand and didnt yell att him and hurt his feelings like sing and nolan. The niners will be in good hands if not great hands if smith leaves. Take that to the bank
Amen brother Amen..
@steel
NO.
You need to realize who is our starter if AS is not back and PM does not sign.
A 2nd year project QB facing our divisions kick butt defenses. Teams will be ready for us this year. No shocking anybody anymore. And we have our 0 experienced QB who didn’t play a pro style offense in his life taking the lead?
Funny – 49ers seem to feel they’ll be fine without him too. Are you saying you know more than Harbaugh about football?? LMAO!!!
Im worried if this all blows up in the 49 ers face with no Manning and no Smith but I guess Harbaugh/Baalke know or appear to know what there doing.
Hey stalker girl
Go find your stalker hubby and make out or do whatever.
You suck. I don’t like you. I don’t care for you. Get the picture?
I bet not.
Have a nice day stalker
LMAO!! You are soooooo bitter!!
If you think I care about you liking me…well you’re just WRONG again!!!
In the famous words of Jack Nicholson “You can’t handle the truth!!!”
The 49ers have demonstrated (with actions, not words) that they want PM and if they don’t get him they will be fine without Alex. So much for your know-it-all b.s.
How does that crow taste??!!
Stalker
You are a wanna be. Stalker. Can you even do that job right? Stalker
The 49ers seem to be high on Kirk Cousins. I bet we draft him no matter what happens here.
BS,
Grow up you pathetic POS. Your habit of talking in absolutes has come back to slap you in the kisser. Come on, say it. Jim Harbaugh knows more about football than you do!
That’s the best you can come up with? “Stalker” ?
LMAO! Don’t flatter yourself – chicks aren’t my thing…
Now go eat crow like a good little girl!!!
The stalker couple.
Together again.
Go to your bedroom now.
BS is turning into Robert De Niro in “The Fan”.
The great Jim Mora Sr. has a message for you BS, “You. Don’t. Know. You think you know, but you just don’t know. And you never … will.”
“Go to your room”
Spoken like someone coming from a position of authority.
Too bad your actual position is that of a know-nothing nobody!!! But hey, congrats on replacing Oneniner as the biggest joke on here!!
Enjoy your crow!
Not doing well in the blog? Bad day for you two stalkers. Especially when PM signs for the Titans. Then what are you happy about?
Here’s an idea. Stay away from me. I’ll stay clear of you. Deal?
Nahhh. The description of a hater prevents you from doing that.
BS,
“You. Don’t. Know. You think you know, but you just don’t know. And you never … will.”
Meanwhile…..DS is in her pizza box/cheeseburger wrapper filled government paid for housing location frantically waving her XEviLicious magic wand into the musty air shouting “Alex, please come back, please come back”!!!!
Stalker hubby, go find your stalker wife and stalk one another for a change.
Don’t like the comments we throw your way? You’re free to leave!!! Don’t let the door hit ya!
Stalkers at large.
Stalker girl just as bad as stalker boy.
Thought you didn’t read our posts? Was that all BS too? LMAO!!!
Yep, I’m a stalker. Now that it’s out in the open I’m thinking about putting together a compilation called “BS from DS” outlining your hypocrisy, double standards, and outright lies – should take 5 whole minutes of research!
Might want to look into getting a restraining order…..
Stalker wife now.
Go away. Look for somebody who actually cares about you.
Not going anywhere – get used to it or gtf out!
BS,
49erGirl and I pay for your government cheese with our taxes. You are on our payroll. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you, and don’t forget you aren’t allowed within 500 yards of children and schools. There is no excuse, your ankle will start beeping when you start to get to close. If you have a problem with that, consult your hubby.
Being called a stalker is getting on your guys nerves, isn’t it?
Maybe you should just stop writing in the same fashion as you talk and ignore me from now on. This is getting to you.
Stalker
It’s OK DS -we’ll eventually let you get the last word in. BigP and I have families to spend time with and won’t be able to keep up with your endless rants….
You calling us Stalker has far less to do with it than the fact that we each have a life outside of here.
We know you’re jealous, too.
Stalker..go away
If things go a certain way, maybe Alex could sign with Green Bay. They just lost their backup quarterback. Just sayin’.
Oh this is FA fun and we are right in the middle of it !
Did Alex really shock anybody last year?? Seemed to me he was always face planted on the ground or throwing balls in the dirt.
imagine if you’d actually watched the games.
In between the bad blocking and WR not running their routes properly, he managed 6 come back wins out of a total of 14 wins.
Did something right besides handle the snap I’d say.
Delusional…
jack
So, all AS did was take the snap then?
You are delusional. Seriously. Too many concussion shots.
More like jello shots.
I don’t know what jello shots meant Adam, but it was funny. lol
DS,
You’ve never heard of Jello shots? You really need to get out once in awhile.
If they felt CK was ready, then Niners should not have gone after PM.
Not necessarily. They may simply feel that CK is a better option than AS.
Exactly….dont argue with this dude. he makes crazy statements and then tries to back up his arguments with totally off topic stats and facts
Maybe CK was picking up bad habits from Alex??
@oneniner, Grant has been piggy backing other Writers since free agency started, he has not come up with one breaking story or insight, only speculation and hypothesis, what a joke!
Sour grapes, indeed.
+1
Niners will be fine with either quarterback too much talent and great coaching…if CK starts he will throw more picks but will score more points with his receivers and convert way more 3rd dwn conversions…tolzien is a beast too who saw him tear up the niners last pre season!! What does everyone think?
Tolzein looked good last pre season, better than CK7. I’m going to watch Tolzein, he is dark horse in the QB derby for sure.
I think you are right on. Both Kaepernick and Tolzien are far more talented than alex 3 and out smith. I’ve seen enough balls thrown in the dirt.
Executive of the Year, Coach of the year! Do you think they get played by Peyton Manning, the Denver Broncos and The Tennessee Titans. You people are KILLING me. We are talking about THE SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS. Owners of 5 Lombardi Trophies. Manning / Niners press conference tomorrow, after he gets here to see the facility. Shine up the big 5!!
I just called 4949 and told them to make some room for number 6 and 7 or just build a new case!!!
I hope your right?
With the recent news that the NFL will reveal the punishment handed down to the Saints on Monday, I expect Payton will wait until Tuesday to make his announcement.
Good point
PM is not coming to SF, 9ers wanted Flynn to come in next week for a try out but now that is not going to happen…..I have a good friend who is very close to the 49er organizaion and he tells me that the 9ers are in a crises mode right now, they thought they had PM but Condon has informed the 9ers that probably is not going to happen….and Smith will not be back in SF….poor judgement on the 9ers management made a huge mistake and is going to cost them the playoffs this year. THEY HAVE NO ESTABLISHED QB!!
You must be intoxicated still..
And I have a source in the organization who tells me you’re full of $hit…
Gulp.
At ds…. These haters you speak of. Who do they hate?
@md
When somebody says they don’t want to interact with you and to leave them alone….and that same person keeps posting to/about them every second…that is a good description of a hater.
I don’t go around to other bloggers who have told me to not interact with them and proceed to follow their posts. I ignore them.
The haters don’t just hate AS. They don’t just hate me. They just hate.
My source tells me they let you out of your ward every so often so that you can blog on internet sites.
@josh
If things stay as they are, nothing you wrote is wrong, or a lie.
Don’t let the haters tell you otherwise. The Niners gambled big. They are in danger of losing big.
All that has to happen is for Miami (or any x team) to go and offer AS more money, and they will have to get into a bidding war. Before the PM fiasoc, there was no bidding war. The team will spend more money/years now than they offered originally. This whole mess would have been avoided had they paid AS more or given him more years.
P.S. If you are telling the truth about you knowing somebody who works for the Niners, I bet you tried to get a job with him/her at one point. lol
You are delusional.
with some major anger pills
@chicago
Get a life. You don’t think as players get older that they injure more easily and it takes longer to recover.
You are delusional. You are the one just dying to fight. Go box, or play GTA or something.
Losing alex smith wouldn’t send anybody into crisis mode you little yellow bus rider. JH and TB are probably high fiving right now. Now they can just have the qb play football and JH can worry about winning instead of catering to alex smiths delicate sensibilities since he is a meek no confidence bum. Your source is one of your nerd friends searching the internet in his moms basement.
Oh not the short bus! ROTFLMAO! My wife is looking at me funny!
@JOSH,
What crisis,if we lose Alex Smith big freaking deal, if Harbaugh made Smith a C plus QB, he can do that with Kaep.
I can’t help tho think that Manning watched the 49ers twice in person play his brother. He must have thought watching the game “the 49ers should be killing my brothers team!” All’s we are missing now is a STUD right guard.
And you have to remember also Manning will not be asked to throw 40 times a game. Thats HUGE right there Plus the real big plus is that ALL 11 starters on D on coming back. Denver had a flukey year (LOL) and Titans don’t have any where near the 49ers do let alone weapons. Isn’t it a no brainer?
Update: Free agent guard Geoff Schwartz will work out for the Niners on Tuesday, according to his twitter. If Trent Baalke signs him, forget about drafting a guard in the first round.
Ds… Do u honestly think if peyton and alex are gone that the talking heads dont have another plan. We will be in good hands weather its ck or whoever. the guy already has the intangibles. harbaugh will have him ready by opening day. My opinion only but We will be ok
@steel
There are always other plans. There is a plan for our country to fire off our nuclear weapons if something went horribly wrong as well.
But that does not make it a good plan or a good alternative.
How many more QB’s are out there? Give me a list of real alternative QB’s who can come in here and get us back to the playoffs and do the job AS did in this past years playoffs throwing 6TD and 0Int.
Then try to figure out how much those guys will cost. In draft picks/money/years/guaranteed money. Then compare those costs to what AS wanted.
What do you get, huhhhh?
Of course there is an alternative plan. It will just really suck. Just like the nuclear plan to end a war.
Just like there was no way the Niners were going to win more than 3 games last year with a new coaching staff in a shortened off-season…..the sky is falling, the sky is falling! OMG, Alex is gone, the sky is falling!!!
Ready to jump off that bridge yet? Need a push?
Buahahahaha!!!!
DS just go find alex smith and give him a BJ and get it over with dude.
Damn! That is funny!
Webster – We don’t need Raider fan mentality in here.
She wouldn’t be able to offer Smith enough money for him to accept that contract proposal.
Sex on the brain guys?
Sure you are married, or locked alone in your mom’s basement?
Well. BigP and 49erGirl are the stalker couple. So, at least they are consistent.
BS,
If your are going to continue to talk out of your a$$, please wash it first. Nobody wants to deal with your halitosis stinking up the blog.
Wow. Delta bravos, galore.
You sound like you were ARBUS.
LOL, so funny love it.
The Dolphins need to move if they are going to land Smith. If they sign Smith now and the Niners lose out in the Manning hunt, the Niners won’t be able to up their offer to Alex, as he would be gone.
That would be a real shame. Please come true.
Amen please sign alex, then the dolphins will have the nfl equivalent of herpes and the niners can start converting 3rd downs again!
U haters keep pretending this is a done deal, AES, 23 clown, you have eaten crow all year, can’t wait to see yor faces and tongues hanging out when Manning puts on #18 Titans jersey, buwhahahahahahah!!!
That would be fine with me Prime GAY BASHER Time, at least we don’t have to see your man crush play QB ever again in a Niner uniform. I am not betting the house that the Niner’s will get Manning but AS being gone is a victory to itself.
C’mon Prime, calm down it’s only football. The only thing certain in all this is something we all already know; Players come and go.
No need to vent all the angst. And honestly, your venom should be directed at the FO rather than us. Perhaps they seen some of Alex’ flaws better then you want to give them credit for.
…….or could the front office dropped the ball on this and be left with a 2nd round draft pick as their guy with no NFL experience and no NFL starts on a team that is so close to being a legit contender? This also could be true. Lets be honest, this organization has not always made great decisions. Last year could have easily been an annomly.
If they dont get Manning or Smith, what message does that send to the leaders like J. Smith, Willis, Staley, and Gore? You try explaining what happened to those guys who are in the prime of their career and ready to win now.
Yes Latino
Teams rise and fall for all sorts of reasons.
Ignoring the guy who got you there for another, only to fail in getting either back…that has been done before.
“You run this town because others think you run it. They stop thinking it, you stop running it”
- Millers Crossing
You don’t even know what a hater is you stupid geek scrub. Your boyfriend alex sucks, has a week arm, is inaccurate and 3rd downs are like krytonite to the bum. Alex is done scrub, now go off yourself.
DS u are a retard. Lol. Cmon peyton!
You’d know what they look like and sound like in real life. That is for sure.
Sounds like the rats (haters) are in panic mode to jump off the burning ship!
Chill folks, nothing has been inked yet.
Lol @ the doofus who thinks his friend has the inside scoop in the niners FO
I like alex but any of the qb’s mentioned should be at least as good as alex.Alex is backup quality and should not start for any team in the nfl. I fear he will return though. As long as Kaep hurries , then alex will be a fine backup
backstabber “I like Alex but”
HUGE reality check for the Smithers. Seattle chose a QB with 2 games NFL experience over Alex who was one game away for the superbowl. Speaks volumes. Alex is a backup. You think the Niners want him back after this huge public embarrassment? No one wants him. What message would they be selling to their fans? Our starting QB was wanted by no one but we will roll him out? Good luck selling PSL’s with that.
Spot on. The Seahawks passed on Alex. That means Scotty M also passed on him. That was the GM who draft him? This must be embarrassing for Alex. I wish him well where ever he ends up.
Agree with bay.
What a shock.
Thanks DS…
Im still gonna buy season tickets if I can. Fans that support one player or fans who hate one player are not real fans so your point about sellin PSL’s is poitnless because its all about the team is it not. Dont think fans are gonna say “well Smith is back, I’m not going to the game” dont you think?
Well said Bay, Alex will be all by himself, he don’t want to be.
Bay i am shocked that Seattle picked Flynn with only two games and Miami did not pick him up despite the OC knowing the guy!!!
6 Teams are currently in a bidding war with Alex Smith. LOL Time to let someone else experiment for a few years.
Poor Alex, man. That guy’s been the consumate professional his whole career, finds a spot under Harbaugh’s wing and then this?
I mean, I’ve been all in for Manning, but they’re doing it all wrong. All but assuring Alex the job next year with all their, “he’s our guy” stuff. He coulda been advertising his services alot sooner if not for the games they’ve been playing. We could’ve handled this better for sure.
I’ve always rooted for Alex to succeed despite some of his shortcomings over the years. Hopefully, wherever he lands, he can just put it in everyones face someday.
+1
Dont hold your breath.
I would love to see Peyton Manning sign here but I think he’ll go back to where he played college ball. It’s comfortable, they have a decent team, and he’s a country boy at heart. Plus they can probably offer him a pretty sizable deal.
If Peyton goes to Tennessee, I’d still like to see Alex go to Miami.
I’ll take my chances gambling with an unproven QB in CK for a year or so rather than take what Alex gives us year in and year out; that is, 3 and outs.
That is a foolish and fiscally unsound view of the situation. The 9ers have there ducks in a row to win now. They cant waste a couple of years and hope they could just turn it on with the roster changes that are bound to take place.
They’re close, but there’s no guarantee that Green Bay will fold in the playoffs like they did last year, and that we will get Home Field throughout the playoffs. Our defense is awesome, but we were close to getting to the Super Bowl because all of our playoff games were at home. I personally don’t think there’s a huge drop-off in what Alex gives you and what another journeyman QB can give you. CK would probably be a bit of a drop-off since he’s just in his 2nd year, but not enough to scare me. Time for Alex to go.
Alex will be fine. This signing of Flynn reenforces that the 9ers were lowballing AS. He will have strong options with the two teams that dont get PM as well as Miami and maybe Cleveland too. If the 49ers get wind that they wont get PM they better kiss ass and snatch up Smith.
It tells us the Seahawks didn’t think Alex was worth what they offered
Flynn. Flynn has played in what, 2 games his entire career? The Niners did not “low ball” Alex. They offered him what they thought his market value was at the time. You know what? The Niners were right, and Alex should have taken the deal.
time will tell
Nobody is going to give alex smith a starting job. Alex better start kissing ass or his bust butt is out of the league.
Wow there are bitter people here today. I guess the truth came to light like some predicted. And others that denied that truth are hurting. Oh well! In harbaugh I trust!
The good news is onefin is irrelevant now. And his big truckload of crow has spoiled. Now comes the anger. Ha ha ha I wished I could see him in person so I could put my finger directly in the middle of his forehead and lmao. Onefin’ next blog act is coming to The????? Tbd. Buhahahahahahahaha
@md
No, not bitter.
People who are worried that their team may have blown something good.
A better than good chance the Niners don’t get PM, coupled with losing the QB who lead us to 13-3 and having virtually no QB’s left in FA who can start, and a project QB with his backup being an undrafted guy both in their 2nd year does not bode well.
defense and special teams led to 13-3 stupid, they got there in spite of alex 3 and out smith. Go root for the dolphins, go read the espn blog and see how happy dolphins fans are at the possibility of that career loser bringing his cancerous self to their team. Alex led the niners to 13-3 like Rex Grossman led the Bears to the super bowl.
I’m starting to get a feel for Josh O’Brien’s style of posting. Now I’d like to give it a try.
My Aunt’s neighbor’s son’s best friend’s Dad works as a janitor at 4949 Centennial and he overheard JH and TB talking about how their plan all along was to pretend not to want PM and then later secretly pretend they DO want him in order to drive AS’s options down so that they could sign him for less or not at all because they privately acknowledged that CK is easily capable of surpassing AS in 2012, except perhaps when it comes to caddying. My Aunt’s neighbor’s son’s best friend’s Dad also said JH & TB seemed quite confident that they could handle the situation regardless of the outcome and despite the protestations of some fans who have friends that are close to the organization, and when he said close, he rolled his eyes.
I think you nailed it there, bud! :-)
It sucks but its hard to feel bad for a guy who will get close to 30 million bucks with no state tax. He will be fine.
Poor haters, so delusional, everyone knows AS will be back in SF, Manning to the Titans, book it!
Not if Miami signs Alex very soon.
Your boyfriend is gone Prime Time. Now go clutch your number 11 pink jersey and listen to coldplay. Your loser qb is gone forever tree stump hahahahaha loser.
i see nothing wrong with alex explorong his options.just as the 9ers.peyton,and every other fa.thats what this time of year is all about.i prefer to wait for the outcome than make predictions or make attacks on someone.no one but the people involved know whats really happening.
@east
The “wrong” thing about it is that this was the most “team” of any team last year. In any sport.
Do you think the same will be truthfully said of the 2012 Niners? If AS signed before the team lowballed AS?
Now, they may have to pay the guy more money than AS was even demanding (or years) due to competition.
DS you’re insane dude. Every niner player is so excited about peyton both donte whitner and frank gore have been tweeting how excited they are at the possibility. Sound like the only one sad about alex leaving is you and a few other losers!
Grants sources = daddy, matt, and matt

“Grants sources = daddy, matt, and matt.”
Grant’ readers = hundreds and counting!
OABTW, add yourself to the list (lol).
The base value of Matt Flynn’s three-year contract in Seattle is only $19 million, with $10 million guaranteed.
The initial Flynn report claimed he received a three-year, $26 million deal. Per the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel, however, Flynn’s base contract is just $19 million with $5 million more available through incentives. It appears the remaining $2 million could be had via “unlikely to be earned” incentives. Either way, it’s a much more team-friendly deal than the Cardinals gave Kevin Kolb last offseason. Even if the full “guarantee” is only $2 million less. If both Flynn and Kolb emerged as viable starting quarterbacks, the Seahawks would be paying Flynn much less than the Cardinals would for Kolb.
Maybe this is why they chose him over AS.
Kolb sucking so bad in AZ last year really hurt Flynn. At least that is what ESPN said.
All the more reason why Alex should have taken the Niners offer they had on the table.
What I find disgusting is the usual douche bags plus a few new idiots who were clearly gagging over a 13-3 record last season, reveling over ths guy’s perceived downfall. Wow, what a bunch of a_holes. Seriously.
@Adam
The label I have for them is under criticism.
I don’t feel the application of it is.
Adam, so true. Careful what you wish for…like Grant stating that JH and staff may be following the ADavis Raider formula for winning. uugghh!
It almost worked in 2002, Harbaugh’s first season as a Raider.
Bye bye Alex!!!!! Good riddance!!!

I wish him the best, he is a class act.
Wow, so much for “In Harbaugh We Trust.”
Man, the nasty comments made toward others on this blog is out of control anymore. This didn’t happen when Matt was here.
Talk about character issues.
Anyway, this isn’t worth my time. I’m out, take care.
Nobody has any Idea how this play’s out in 2012 have faith. Imo I just don’t feel you can make a push 2 years in a row with and O that that has under 300 yrds passing game after game. We will need to keep up this year.
