49ers 51, Panthers 13: Grades

SANTA CLARA — The 49ers emasculated the Panthers 51-13 Sunday afternoon. Here are the 49ers’ grades:

GAROPPOLO: B-plus. He has to be the greatest average quarterback of all time. He doesn’t have to do much. He rarely throws downfield. Against the Panthers, he mostly threw screen passes and dump off. He still makes at least one brutal decision per game. On Sunday, it was the interception he threw when his intended receiver, George Kittle, was covered. Still, Garoppolo’s career record is 15-2. He almost always plays well enough to win. And he’s terrific on third down. The 49ers converted five of their third downs against the Panthers, and Garoppolo was the catalyst of those conversions. Call Garoppolo average-plus. The 49ers will take that as long as he keeps winning.

RUNNING BACKS: A. They rushed for 206 yards and four touchdowns without their most valuable player, fullback Kyle Juszczyk. Tevin Coleman rushed for three TDs and caught one as well. I’ve never seen a 49ers running back play that well in person.

WIDE RECEIVERS: B-plus. Emmanuel Sanders made his 49ers debut and caught a touchdown pass in the red zone. Rookie Deebo Samuel returned from a groin injury and ran for a 20-yard touchdown in the red zone. Sanders and Samuel seem like a quality duo.

TIGHT ENDS: A. George Kittle caught six passes for 86 yards. After the game, Brett Favre asked for Kittle’s autograph in the 49ers’ locker room. Favre had to ask nicely.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN: A. They gave up only three sacks despite Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey both missing the game. And the offensive line created huge rushing lanes, which helped the 49ers gain 6.1 yards per carry.

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN: A. They gave up 130 rushing yards, but those yards didn’t hurt the 49ers because they led by so much for most of the game. And the pass rush was phenomenal. Nick Bosa recorded three sacks, Arik Armstead recorded two and Ronald Blair and D.J. Jones each recorded one. The 49ers have the best defensive line in the league by far.

LINEBACKERS: A. Fred Warner had a team-high six tackles, and Kwon Alexander had four. Together, they limited McCaffrey to just 48 receiving yards.

DEFENSIVE BACKS: A. Kyle Allen came into the game with zero career interceptions. But, Richard Sherman picked him off once, and so did Emmanuel Moseley. Moseley arguably is the 49ers’ second-best cornerback on the team after Ahkello Witherspoon, who is injured. And that’s no slight against Sherman.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A-minus. The 49ers missed one extra point. Otherwise, the special teams were flawless.

COACHES: A. Kyle Shanahan called perhaps his best game as a head coach. He revived his running game that had died since Kyle Juszczyk sprained his knee against the Cleveland Browns. Shanahan also created an explosive passing game using mostly screens. The Panthers loaded their defense to take away the runs and short throws and still couldn’t take them away. Shanahan was THAT good. And Robert Saleh was as brilliant as ever. He remains the 49ers’ M.V.P. through seven games. He will not lose to a backup quarterback.

  1. Truly impressive win in a game that had me worried. Garoppolo looks best when he’s working the middle of the field for 15-25 yard gains. What a win. How many doubters are left?

    1. This was the worst move the 49ers could have made with the second pick. I would have taken Josh Allen. Former 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan would have taken Quinnen Williams. Either player would have been terrific for the 49ers. The best move would have been trading down.

Instead, the 49ers took yet another player with a troubling injury history.

      Grant Cohn

      1. That might be more detrimental to his credibility than saying Shanny should sign Kaepernick immediately.

    1. Nothing? I actually was interested in an answer, Grant. Not trying to be a jerk. Seriously…

      1. He buries his mistakes and bans those that criticize him and remind him of them.

Yards per dropback, QBs vs. 49ers:

        – Jameis Winston: 4.5
        – Andy Dalton: 6.3
        – Mason Rudolph: 5.5
        ———BYE———
        – Baker Mayfield: 2.8
        – Jared Goff: 1.7
        – Case Keenum: 3.3
        – Kyle Allen: 2.3

Nick Bosa’s ankle got 100% healthy at the bye. And pretty much everything Grant said was wrong with him, was exaggerated or out-right wrong.

  2. I generally agree with the grades, but disagree with the comment that Jimmy is an average QB. He is in the second tier of QB’s. He does make one bone head decision a game, but otherwise he is excellent. He plays the game that Kyle calls. Don’t forget his TD to Kittle was called back and that would have raised his QB rating above 111, which is very good.

    P. S. We need a nickname for Kittle.
Gorgeous George since he loves wrestling.
George of the Jungle because he is powerful and a little goofy.

    1. He doesn’t make those none headed plays in the 4th qrt. If someone could look it up but I don’t remember Jimmy throwing a 4th qrt pick or a int that has ever costed us a game. But I can recall tons of times where he has won us games.

  3. Grant giving good grades…thanks Grant I always always appreciate you and your input..thanks man

  4. Jimmy G has the ability to throw into tiny windows under duress, and he’s an excellent leader. No need to throw it around when you have a championship defense, and can run the ball just to prove a beat reporter wrong. When the time comes, and they need him to air it out, he will. The Panthers weren’t a test. They weren’t even a quiz. They were p*ssy cats, and we made those p*ssies purr….

      1. True.

He’s a blogger. He gets paid to do it, more power to him, but if his last name weren’t Cohn would he even be here?

        1. Try listening to the HotMic. The commentary is fun and in-depth. We’re lucky Grant continues the blog. It is well below his skill set.
I enjoy that he isn’t a 49 er fan. His knowledge for the game has grown exponentially or perhaps his periscopes portray it better. Regardless, his reporting is edgy. He isn’t a maiocco corporate yes man. He challenges the players and coaches. They view him as a professional and treat him as such.
They use his Criticisms as motivation. Enjoy it.

          1. you really believe they use grants criticisms as motivation? professional athletes and coaches ? wow

        2. I agree Grant does a great job and enjoy his periscope and hot mic. I’m really glad he isn’t a maiocco corporate yes man too. I like JG and think he’s average plus also..but is that type of game manager style, short passes and a pick a game, winning in Sept/Oct [but really it’s the run game and great D carrying the team] going to be good enough for the playoffs and SB. And is he worth having a $137M contract ??..probably not.

        3. Give perspective a chance. Grant’s dad was a very good writer, that cared about content, coverage, style and grammar; and he probed where a pure fan may not want to go when questions lingered.
The Chronicle was the Bay Area standard newspaper of Grant’s time; just like KTVU Channel 2 was the quality TV coverage for local news. He played in the big leagues.
Santa Rosa PD was lucky to get Lowell Cohn.

Grant does a great job with covering the Niners. And my guess is that it’s not easy to work in the same field, for the same paper and cover the same team as a parent. If you talk to local news “talent” (as the industry calls news workers with a public face), you will find that it’s a hyper-competitive field that is brutal to make a career in. To not by a complete fan-boy; admit mistakes; make predictions; and be exposed to the accountability of an open blog is tough sledding.

KNBR, the Athletic, and other sources do a good job too. But fan access to a two-way dialogue on predictions vs. final results is very rare. So let’s not mess this up with negativity.

I enjoy the PD overall, and used to follow the Bite Club closely. But Heather, a really good reviewer and food finder got pounded with wack job comments, and that forum turned into a social media log-in required site. (likely difference may be that her reporting covered uniquely identified businesses; but still, people that just fling dung can wreck a good local product).

          So, anyway, peace out!, dude.

  5. The overall grades and comments were spot on, except for your dislike of Jimmy G. Mullins is a slightly above average qb. Jimmy is well above average he knows how to win. Your b grade is also spot on. Grant it’s time to hurry the hatchet.

  6. “42% of Jimmy G’s 2019 throws have gained first downs, league-best rate among quarterbacks with at least 100 pass attempts.”

From the terrific Evan Silva ~ Twitter

    1. Ribico says:
      October 27, 2019 at 3:08 pm
Jimmy is a 3rd down conversion machine.

Glad to see he’s getting the stats love.

  7. Shanny’s offensive Ferrari is beginning to growl under the hood. That Deebo run was a thing of beauty. Expect to see a another new run play when Juice gets back on November 11.
Meanwhile, forget DROY, Nick Bosa will be in the reckoning for DPOY.

    1. Couldn’t agree more Mood. That was probably the best designed and executed play I’ve ever seen in Football. Just amazing to see what Kyle can do knowing he has a fantastic D to bail him out if these creative shots don’t work. His genius is starting to show and he, like the team is getting better every week.

I’m so excited to be witnessing this Remarkable play and run by the team I’ve rooted for my whole life.

Trivia question (without looking it up) can anyone tell me the last time the Niners put up more than 50 points in a game? I’m looking for some old schoolers like Razor or Seb, as I bet they can remember.

History in the making. Go Niners!

      1. I think it 1993 the last time the 49ers scored more than this game. It was 55 points I believe.

    2. We ran that play for a touchdown against Santa Clara high back in 2005, it’s a staple play of the Fly offense.

      1. That’s awesome Jack! My High school coaches were definitely not that creative, and those types of plays are really hard to pull of with the speed of defenses in the NFL. Color me impressed. Go Niners!

      2. I think I have seen a variation of that play run by Chip’s Ducks 6-7 years ago, but don’t recall seeing it run in the NFL.

    3. Man, I had major deja vu on that little trap play to Deebo. My oldest son played WR in high school. He switched between F and B depending on the play so sometimes he was out wide and sometimes he was in the slot. Their team had a variation of that trap/reverse play in the offense but the motion actually went the other way to switch the strong side for the defense. The team had a huge amount of success running that play. My son just had a natural feel for the angles and openings that was perfect for that play. So my son graduated the same year as Ed Oliver who now plays d-tackle for the Bills. We run that little reverse play against Oliver’s team and it gets wide open. My son kicks it outside and is going down the sideline about 30 yards downfield. The Safety takes a good angle and my son has to cut the run back inside and it looks like it’s wide open for a TD. Ed Oliver comes from the back side d-tackle and hustles downfield and when my son cuts back inside there’s Ed Oliver and he absolutely crushes my son. That was maybe the most impressive play I’ve seen from a high school d-lineman. My son was a legit 4.6 kid which in high school is pretty fast. Not elite but pretty fast. Ed Oliver was an incredibly impressive high school football player. Never quit on any play.

      1. I love Ed Oliver and would always try to watch the Houston Cougars play and focus watching him play. Now he’s a Bill and trying to watch him develop. I kinda did the same thing watching N.D and focusing on seeing Quenton Nelson pancake the D.

  8. I will take Jimmy G over D. CARR anytime. Jimmy is a winner. He just plays a gr eww at game. Not as pretty but always what we need.

    1. Sheesh, who wouldn’t? Except maybe some guy who had his privates tattooed in silver and black.

  9. @Grant – Jimmy hasn’t been asked to do much. Great! The time will come for Jimmy to prove he can consistently throw down field and win. Until then let’s just be happy!

Robert Saleh looks like an MVP b/c the players he has are making plays. If anything the GM for putting team together. You could have a “nuttless monkey” out here calling a 4 man rush and be successful. Basically it is all coming together, scheme, players with a soft schedule.

The team is growing every week, what a thing of beauty. We could have something special here this year and years to come…

    Go Niners!!!

  10. I was one of the guys skeptical about Bosa. Could he stay healthy? Did he really love the game? Would Q. Williams or Josh Allen be a better pick? Wow. Talk about being plain wrong. This kid just has “Star” written all over him, and the icing on the cake is that he seems to be a super good teammate. What a kick to watch him work!

  11. i hate to say it, but the 49ers still haven’t played anyone yet in terms of the opposing quarterback, they have all been backups or unproven, inconsistent qbs like Goff and Winston

I have a feeling they will struggle against good veteran qbs like Wilson and Brees

    1. I also don’t know why everyone keeps saying the defense is scary, the 49ers don’t have any real scary defenders that will enforce a game with big hits, I consider that scary

like the 2012 goldson and whitner, or chancellor on the seahawks, that is scary to me

if I was the opposing team, i wouldn’t be scared at all knowing no 49er would be looking to put a knockout hit on you

      1. OK, that is NOT valid. These days, you lay someone out, and you get an immediate penalty called on you, and you may even get tossed from the game. What I remember about Whitner and Goldson (sp?) is how many Personal Fouls got called on them. No Thanks!

        1. but what about the “legion of boom”, they were scary because they would boom you and many teams would hear footsteps and lose the game, and they did it legally too with chancellor mostly

I just don’t like it when other people keeps calling the 49ers defense scary, there’s nothing scary about them, they just execute, they’re not even that mean or physical

          1. I’ll say this much: if I were an opposing QB, staring at that pass rush, I’d be scared. Because it’s not just one guy coming for you–there’s 4 or 5 guys that can get there.

          2. The Legion of Boom essentially hit it’s peak 5 years ago. Even in that little time the degree of protection and penalties that officials have called in an effort to protect QBs and Receivers has dramatically shifted and changed how the game is played.

Whitner has been interviewed relatively recently and has said that he couldn’t have played the game the way he played it in today’s NFL.

New England arguably has the top defense. Who is the “punisher” on their defense?

        2. …and you may even get tossed from the game.

You might even get suspended for the remainder of the season, even if the hit itself is a matter of interpretation and possibly not intentional. Which will hurt you and your team.

    2. A good pass rush does wonders for helping to mitigate a good QB. Especially if they only rush 4 and drop 7.
Watching the 49er’s defensive front chase Wilson is going to be fun.

      1. Wilson has never seen a defense where the front 7 plays this fast and does not let up. He will make a few remarkable passes on broken plays but I expect him to be bottled up in general.

        1. The defense has played great, but has at times been subject to giving up big runs (two 40 yard runs by Christian yesterday).

The defense has not had to play against a mobile and elusive QB yet. To me this is pretty much the last test. Will these QBs simply be able to run up the middle on short to medium pass plays?

In the end, I think you are probably right. All three QBs (Murray, Wilson, Jackson) will make some great plays but will in general be bottled up.

    3. Fair point. What is also a fair point is that the 7 QBs they have faced averaged:
      – 156 yards, 0.7 TDs and 1.4 INTs per game vs the 49ers
      – 268 yards, 1.5 TDs and 1.0 INTs per game vs everyone else.

That’s a very large discrepancy in results when facing the 49ers vs everyone else. It is even more impressive when you consider the following:
      – The averages against other opponents are brought down by including part games played by Mason Rudolph and Case Keenum.
      – The average against the 49ers is brought up by Andy Dalton and Kyle Allen playing mostly against backups in the 2nd half of the games vs the 49ers.
      – The variance between performance vs the 49ers compared to other opponents has widened considerably since the 49ers had their bye week. The 49ers D is getting better over time.

  12. To think that this fool COHN thought BOSA was a joke. That tells you enough about COHN….Oh just think about his daddy Lowell who was maybe worse!

  13. And let’s not forget, people: we have a Big-Time infusion of injured talent coming back into the fold, and that includes Trent Taylor and Jalen Hurd, both of whom haven’t even played a down in the regular season. More toys for KS to scheme with! An undefeated team is going to get even better.

    1. Hell yeah! So they can bring back 2 out of 4 players from Taylor, Hurd, Street, and Verrett? Hoping that it’s Taylor and Hurd, though I’d like to have more depth at corner in the playoffs, just in case.

  14. I seem to remember a sports writer saying the 49er’s draft and trades were all wrong. Build your defense from the back to the front he said. Big mistake by Lynch and SF to build from front to back. QB’s will get rid of the ball before pass rushers can get to them. Stuffing the run was archaic. Anyone else remember this? Can’t remember the guy’s name, but I think his initials were GRANT COHN.

    1. I remember Grant saying something to that effect and also the guys on the Better Rivals podcast. I think anything the Patriots do, especially because they’re masters at the cap, looks like the thing that everyone should be doing. But if you’ve got the #2 pick in the draft, there was no corner or safety that was going to have the impact Bosa is having. You’d have to have Deion Sanders in his prime for that.

    2. Yes. Some of us remember. And, it’s fun to visit the pre/post draft and free agency topics in the archives. Oh the things that are asserted….the conclusions made….

  15. Was anyone else surprised by T. Coleman’s speed on that long TD run? Man, I didn’t know he could move like that! Impressive.

    1. He was real quick on that play. Wonder if McKinnon is faster. Seems all the rb’s and Deebo when he runs are quick. Maybe Coleman is healed more now and more used to the plays. The 2 backup OL blocked better in this game which is good exp for them especially when the staters are back.

  16. I’ve said since Deebo was drafted that Shanahan was going to use him like a gadget Ricky Watters. At 5’11” and 216 lbs Deebo is built like a running back. He runs with the ball like a running back. Watters played both WR and Tailback for Notre Dame. The Niners drafted Watters as a receiving Tailback (perfect for the West Coast Offense). I see Deebo as Watters would have been had they kept Watters at receiver.

  17. My favorite play was when Bosa intercepted the ball and Kyle Allen was chasing him like a little barking chihuahua scared to tackle him. I was cracking up. The Niners defense is scary. I’ve never seen any defense run every offense off the field so fast except maybe Buddy Ryan’s Chicago 46 defense in 1985. I don’t care who the QB is if they don’t have time to throw they can’t execute. As far as the offense, I’m liking the speed and playmakers for the ball to be spread around to like all the RBs, Kittle (who has been everything from a great RB to a blocker and a WR), Deebo (who reminds me of John Taylor), and now Emanuel Sanders who is quick and has reliable hands. if Jimmy G can just avoid for once throwing an interception we would be unbeatable. The Niners are tougher than one of those crazy wildfires fueled by 100 mile an hour wind.

    1. Jimmy G can just avoid for once throwing an interception we would be unbeatable.

ROK, who, thus far, has beaten them? Who do you think will? And do you think that loss will be the result of an interception?

  18. “The 49ers held Carolina to just 100 net yards passing. It’s the fourth consecutive game the 49ers have given up 100 or fewer yards passing, following games against Washington (50), the Los Angeles Rams (48) and Cleveland (78).
The last time any team in the NFL held an opponent to 100 yards or fewer net passing in four consecutive games was in 1977, when the 49ers and Atlanta Falcons both accomplished that feat.”
    From NBC Sports Bay Area

  19. ….hmm….looking more likely we trade down in the next draft……I can’t see a hole in the starting positions…….maybe TE2

  20. ……‘Lock him up’ chant greets Trump at World Series……….chickens always come home to roost..….

  21. ESPN Sportscenter Scott VP. Now I know its true. Serious East Coast bias. SVP spent about 30 obligatory seconds on 9ers. Then 5 mins gushing about Patriots. OK it was Billy B’s 300th win, a big deal. But I’ve seen this before. National media seems to have trouble acknowledging 9ers are the real deal. If CharlesBarkley was a football announcer, he’d probably say 9ers are “ a jump shooting team”. Last laugh will be 9ers.

  22. George Kittle hosted Brett Favre at his locker after the #49ers 51-13 rout of the #Panthers.

    ……..

Brett Favre?…….this just keeps getting better….

  23. I still think my take on Jimmy is right. Jimmy is unique in that his problem is carelessness. He plays better under pressure because he is more focused in those circumstances. plus he is a really lucky QB. Things always seem to work out for him. In respect to him being the best average QB a lot has to do with the fact that he is just really lucky. Yes luck plays a big part in sports. Some people just are luckier than others. For some players, luck might even be more valuable than being highly skilled.

I think you are wrong about Coleman being the best player on the field this last game. Coleman’s game reminded me of the game Hyde had against Seattle when he went over a hundred yards his last season with the Niners. Coleman was a bit quicker than he usually was but that would have done him no good if he didn’t have those huge holes to run through. The guy had some huge holes to take advantage of this last game and he made the most of them. You have to give him credit for taking advantage of what was given to him to take advantage of. As I always say- you are never as good as your best game or as bad as your worst.

    1. Doesn’t everyone think their take on JG is right? Not sure I buy he’s just lucky. Usually luck is not chance at all, rather a series of disciplines or practices and gifting that allows you to make the best of your work circumstances. He’s got bravado for sure. He’s also reckless. He takes risks and that’s what separates hi, from Alex Smith.

  24. Cool Panthers blog post…

    Apologies to Charlie Daniels…
“Rivera bowed his head because he knew that he’d been beat.
He laid that golden football on the ground at Shanny’s feet.
Shanahan said ‘come on back if you ever wanna try again.’
’Done told you once you son of a ________

You are the worst coach in the league coming off a bye week, never have your team ready to play, and have NO ability to adapt in game offensively or defensively.

  25. Yards per dropback, QBs vs. 49ers:

    – Andy Dalton: 6.3
    – Mason Rudolph: 5.5
    ———BYE———
    – Baker Mayfield: 2.8
    – Jared Goff: 1.7
    – Case Keenum: 3.3
    – Kyle Allen: 2.3

Nick Bosa’s ankle got 100% healthy at the bye.

  26. This year the team has been a breath of fresh air. The coaches have done superlative jobs getting the team focused and ready (3rd down efficiency, penalties). The players themselves are sensing that they are special (Kittle crying vs Kittle having way fun), and the fans are coming into the stadium once again.

I know of only one “fan” who is unhappy about the turnaround (Darren). Everyone else is and always has been a fan. That many didn’t believe the team capable of a turnaround is understandable given the many years of anemia. No one is sad to be wrong.

That Grant was wrong isn’t that big a deal, he is and it happens. Plenty of people here have been wrong plenty. Those that said the team would be fantastic generally say that every year and forget the many times they were way off too.

Let’s enjoy the season. I know I am.

    1. Hey Sour we have ourselves quite a football team. Glad we can sit back and watch and enjoy the ride. This team is Bad Ass.

  27. IMO the best way to savor the success of the 49ers this year is to look back at last year and see where we were one year ago. The link below is Grant’s article from last Haloween when Shanahan said he needs closers to finish out games after the 49ers lost a late lead to the Cardinals. Can’t wait to get to Grants articles last year about how Lynch needs to be fired and Shanahan is on the hot seat. Good times. Good times.

  28. Hey Grant,
Interesting coverage as ever. I think your special teams rating is a bit high. Missed extra point, poor coverage on a couple of kicks, in particular where Wishnowsky has to make a tackle, then a 15yd penalty for his helmet to helmet hit. Props to the punter for putting his career on the line, he seems to be having an okay rookie season without maybe justifying the 4th round draft pick. Do you think our ST will suffer when up against a better opposition?

  29. Looking for some help on streaming NFL games. Family member recently moved out of market. Local market never airs 49er games. They have Cox Cable. I’m looking to buy them a subscription to a streaming service where they can watch all NFL games similar to NFL Sunday Ticket. I’m not looking for some free black market sketchy thing. Don’t mind paying for a subscription. Don’t really want the NFL Pass where you have to watch a replay of the game after it’s over. Do any of you guys stream live NFL games on a specific website?

    1. Houston, I stream games via Sunday Ticket, you don’t need to have Direct TV as your cable provider. I have the Sunday Ticket app on on my Apple TV, it’s like my home sports bar. ? They had an issue two weeks ago, but generally it’s very minimal buffering or drop outs. Those other streaming sites are nothing but malware delivery agents IMO. I’m not sure how even “subscription” sites are legit, isn’t Sunday Ticket the only real time one NFL licensed?

    2. There’s another way which is “quasi legal”. First you have to have a VPN. Using your VPN, you logon to another country’s server and then purchase NFL GamePass for use outside the USA and Canadian markets (say Mexico or Europe or even Singapore/Japan). Now you can watch all games live or at any time after the game is completed (just like USA GamePass). To watch the games live you have to be logged in to your VPN and to a server in another country. You are paying for the service but are getting around the requirement that you have to be out of the US or Canada to use the service.

I assume you are based in Houston. How do you personally watch the 49er games when they are not the nationally televised game?

      1. Rib-Cubus-Houston
These questions and responses are an example of the good of this 49ers blog community. The daily KinderChaos on here is just noise in a loud tavern. Grant is the opinionated barkeep.
Winning, of course, soothes many the savage beast. ?
SB talk is still somewhat premature, but 7-0 is what it is. ?

      2. I purchased a VPN service while I was in India a few years ago because of a need for work. I immediately had all kinds of virus and malware issues. Have you ever had any issues with virus or malware as a result of your VPN service?

I live in Houston and I have DirectTV. I’ve had Sunday NFL Ticket for 21 years. My wife originally purchased the ticket for me when my first son was born so I could stay home on Sundays to watch games instead of spending my entire day in a sports bar. I’m asking about streaming because my father recently retired and moved from San Diego to a small town in Arkansas. He has Cox Cable which obviously doesn’t carry Sunday NFL Ticket. So I’m looking for a way to set him up so he can watch 49er games.

        1. I had Direct TV online back in 2011 and it was horrible. There were games we could literally not see anything but could hear the announcers. We tried going to a bar in Seattle to watch the games, but the Seahawk fans were drunk, rowdy and rude and we felt lucky to get out of the bar without an incident. Since then I’ve used the method I mentioned.

I’ve never had a problem with private internet access as my VPN, but I only use it for streaming games. They recently made some changes, so now there is less of a speed drop when using the VPN. I’ve streamed every game at very high quality (pretty much indistinguishable from broadcast TV).

Rib seems to indicate that Direct TV online is pretty good now and that’s what I would recommend. It’s less of a hassle to setup for your father.

I’m hoping that the NFL will give Sunday Ticket to Amazon or another company that has vast server resources and just resources in general. Then, I’ll probably switch back.

            1. DAZN is not available from US IP addresses. I actually tried to get DAZN for this year. I set my VPN to Vancouver, so that I would have a Vancouver IP address, and tried to sign up, but DAZN wouldn’t allow me to sign up.

          1. One thing that’s annoying about Sunday Ticket streaming, is while there are apps for all devices you can only be logged into one at a time. That’s understandable, but you have to be physically at your device to log out. So if you are traveling and want to watch on your phone, but still logged in back home on your TV app, you are SOL!

    3. I use Reddit for free and watch every game out of market in HD. Other than that you don’t have a ton of options unless you change your VPN to show you live in another country like cubus says. But that is janky too. I just watch Reddit because it’s simple and reliable.

      https://i.reddit.com/r/nflstreams

Goto that link on Sunday morning and enjoy every game at your fingertips.

      1. I’m not sure why you say it is janky. There is far less streaming demand on GamePass outside the US than there is on the online version of Direct TV (or it might be that there are just many more servers to handle GamePass than Direct TV). It works perfectly every week without any delays or buffering (assuming you are getting at least 20 MBPS).

What’s the streaming quality like on Reddit? Is it a 1080 stream with no buffering delays?

        1. Janky as in the fact that you have to manipulate the system. You can’t claim ignorance on that chief.

All 1080 HD perfect streams. Just need good internet of course.

  30. 1. Niners have dominated since the Bye week. I have said before, the first 3 games were like our preseason. Several guys were injured in August. Jimmy G was not getting normal reps . Things have fallen into place nicely.
    2. We have the 2 best Emmanuels in the league – Mosely and Sanders.
    3. We are a sack machine. Blair and Bosa also tipped passes . Bosa tipped a pass to himself.
    4. Our next 3 games are against undersized qbs Kyler and Russ. How many passes will get tipped/batted.
    5. I’m seeing a lot of Niners hats and jerseys showing up out of nowhere. That is fine. Welcome aboard.
    6. The much anticipated mini-bye is just around the corner.

  31. Remember when Harbaugh use to beat the crap out of Alex Smith just before kickoff. I am thinking someone needs to do that to JG, get his blood flowing.

Anyhow cant spend much time salivating yesterdays victory, the Cardinals are up in three more days.

  32. What a glorious morning…

I predicted the 49ers final score would be 35-13. It was 34-13 at one point and the 49ers dropped 16 more on top of it. They exceeded my expectations and I expected a blowout.

I also predicted Kyle Allen would throw a minimum of 2 ints in this game and he did.

I don’t even get paid for this and still make Grant look like a 2 bit palm reader while I am Zoltar

    Bring on the next test…

  33. For the research people on the blog, can someone find out if Wish got the first ever personal foul penalty for a kicker. A game ball should go to Wish for that play as an indicator how much of a Bad Ass team this Niner team is. They got the friggen kicker making hits like that. So what if it was illegal… :)

  34. What a glorious morning…

  35. I’ve noticed a nice side benefit from this dominant winning season. In the past a lot of advertisements for NFL football or video reviews of other team’s past performance on TV have shown the 49ers as the team that was getting beat or against which a deep ball was thrown for a TD, etc. That’s not happening too much now. Now we see pictures/videos of the 49ers dominating other teams or of Nick Bosa celebrating a sack, etc. It’s great to be a niner fan.

    1. It’s like after shopping for a new tv online. After that tv’s be popping up everywhere on every site.

    2. “shown the 49ers as the team that was getting beat or against which a deep ball was thrown for a TD ”

I’ve seen the Josh Rosen to Christian Kirk 80 yard TD at least a dozen times. Payback this Thursday.

    3. Winning cures a ton of ills. Here on the East Coast it was terrible to only seen your team highlights as the one which got beat. Nice that we now see images of players sliding in muddy fields celebrating or of imaginary flags planted in playful defiance and dominance.

  36. There’s one thing I don’t get about all the comments against Jimmy G.
Even this morning I heard like “he doesn’t have the 3rd and 12 factor, like Brees and Rogers”.
Ok, I don’t wanna say that Garoppolo is at that level, but numbers speak for him: he’s leading the NFL in 3rd down convertion pct., and he’s 5th in completition pct., ahead of both mentioned Qbs…
He’s not flawless, for sure, but he’s been better than some ppl say

    1. What kills me is they use the short passes Shanny has been using as a slight against Jimmy, even though we’ve fielded two rookie OT’s at both flanks, and without any Juice. I see it totally differently. I see it as very prudent, unlike Shanny’s play call on that safety. That was an example of imprudence….

      1. Ok, but Shanny offense is always been about screens, RBs able to receive out of the backfield, TEs combinations on short and intermediate routes, FB involved in passes… and so on. West Coast baby!!!
Let me add something: if you are winning, and always leading the game with this formula… and maybe long passes are not our strenght… wouldn’t be stupid to force long passes only to make commentators happy???
And again: do we have a legit down field weapon?
Good teams play their strengths and avoid their weaknesses.

      2. Sorry, need to add another stat I just figured after your message.
Garoppolo ranks 8th in Passing Yards/Attempt with 7.88.
Cousins leads with 9.29 Yd/A. Rodger is 6th with 8.21.
Being in the top ten is not that bad, thinking about short passes. Maybe less than people think…
And it’s not even about Yards after Catch!!! Garoppolo ranks 17th in that category… Rogers is 2nd.
