Live bloggin' lives on . . . until further notice

The 49ers sent out a summary of the 2008 guidelines for online coverage. As far as I can tell, this will not affect the coverage here at Instant 49ers. The 90-seconds of video is not applicable because my phone maxes out at 30 seconds. (But at least the quality is superior.)

Technically, the live blogging might be susceptible to the league's rules. However, team spokesman Aaron Salkin reassured me today that what I do is fine. I do not give a play-by-play account of the action. Rather, I pick out key plays and provide analysis or commentary. Even then, there is about a 5- to 10-minute lag time from the play to when it appears online.

Here are the examples of my live blogging from last season:

Week 1: 49ers 20, Cardinals 17 (Actually, this is a recap; I had yet to discover the joy of live blogging.)

Week 2: 49ers 17, Rams 16 (This was the debut of live blogging -- a historical occasion.)

Week 3: Steelers 37, 49ers 16 (My computer crashed before the game; the Steelers IT guy let me use his computer, then afterward I wrote my newspaper articles from the business center at the hotel.)

Week 4: Seahawks 23, 49ers 3

Week 5: Ravens 9, 49ers 7

Week 6: Bye

Week 7: Giants 33, 49ers 15

Week 8: Saints 31, 49ers 10

Week 9: Falcons 20, 49ers 16

Week 10: Seahawks 24, 49ers 0

Week 11: Rams 13, 49ers 9

Week 12: 49ers 37, Cardinals 31, OT

Week 13: Panthers 31, 49ers 14

Week 14: Vikings 27, 49ers 7

Week 15: 49ers 20, Bengals 13

Week 16: 49ers 21, Buccaneers 19

Week 17: Browns 20, 49ers 7

Here are the NFL guidelines pertaining to online content:

Accredited organizations may distribute online non-game audio and video content, including

interviews, press conferences and team practices at NFL venues, acquired as a result of credentialed access ("Game Information") to games or club/league facilities provided that such distribution:

--is 90 seconds maximum per day (180 seconds maximum in two-team markets -- 90 seconds per team);

--may not be "archived" (i.e., made available for on-demand public access) for more than 24 hours;

--appears in an editorial context only (no sponsorship, merchandising or advertising integrated with or around the content);

--is not posted live; and

--is accompanied by links back to NFL.com and to 49ers web site.

--The 90-second limit does not include video/audio material that is comprised entirely of a credentialed media employee providing commentary or analysis ("Talking Head" reporting), including pre- or post-game stand-up material shot on the field or other facility location.

--While a game is in progress, any forms of accounts of the game must be sufficiently time-delayed and limited in amount (e.g., score updates with detail given only in quarterly game updates, fewer than 10 photographs during the game) so that the Accredited Organization's game coverage cannot be used as a substitute for, or otherwise approximate, authorized play-by-play accounts.

Comment: The NFL and its arrogance/greed can shampoo my crotch. This is so ridiculous, it's right up there with the MLB trying to sue fantasy leagues for using player stats.

Comment: It's a well extablished in the NFL. The only thing that's allowed is taping of the other teams signals for future use, and jamming of the communications systems. Ask Belly-Cheat, he knows the rules

Comment: Greed knows no limits... Let us hope that the NFL does not take it so far that fans begin giving up on the sport. In a day of "Real Time" updates, they are worried about their bottom line so much that they are shutting down those who hype up and communicate their games! There was talk a while back that the league was genuinely considering making games PPV (Pay Per View)... It makes you wonder whether the sport can survive the current regime. Your thoughts Matt?

Comment: Looks like another case of the No Fun League. The stuff they are trying to ban in no way replaces television or even compars to it. Written play by play, so exciting.

Comment: Sorry, I know the NFL has its exclusive TV rights to protect and all that, but this is just stupid. I remember watching that historic Browns/Ravens game last year (FG went through, but hit the support and came back out). CBS, who was broadcasting the game in the local markets, couldn't actually show ME the PBP of that historic finish, because MY market was watching a different game. Even though the game my market was watching was over, they couldn't switch to a different game that THEY THEMSELVES were broadcasting. The NFL needs to get a clue and realize that we're in the 21st century, not in ancient Rome. Jeez.

Comment: Have the 49ers brought in any OTs who hail from Mexico?
