Comment: I agree we should wait and see about free agents but most of the good ones historically resign with their teams. Another WR I'd look at, in the 2nd or 3rd round, is Donnie Avery of Houston 5' 11'', 190lbs, 4.29 40yd, could be an Isaac Bruce type for Martz. We also might look to the Pats (our trading pals) and try to pry Chad Jackson loose, cheap (they owe us) he was as highly rated as Santonio Holmes when they came out a couple years ago but has gotten lost with all the WRs they have.

Comment: 49ers Draft Predictions - 1st Round DE Calais Campbell 6'8 280lbs., 2nd Round WR James Hardy 6-7 220 lbs, ....we trade back into the 2nd Round and pick up SS Tom Zbikowski, 3rd Round..

Comment: tgflynn, I have a suspicion that USC is one of our target schools for some reason? I too have thought about Baker as a possible Draft slide candidate and like our position of 2 picks within 10 slots. I would like to go OL/OLB-DE 1-2 but would have to see what we do in FA moves 1st. I think Baas or Wragge will move inside to C soon so I'd look OG/OT Day 1 and maybe throw a WR in the Day 1 mix as well. Depending on his Combine showing, would like to see QB Flacco or Brennan fall to Day 2? Much to speculate about, but FA moves will dictate the Draft posture for sure. Let's remember to stuff the ballot box for Patrick too, ROY '07! V-O-T-E everyday all week until it's closed.....http://www.nfl.com/partner?partnerType=rookies

Comment: Time to speculate on the draft. Three top choices depending on availability; 1. Sam Baker OT USC, 2. Limas Sweed WR Texas and 3. Kentwan Balmer DE/DT UNC. Baker's a real stretch probably picked much earlier, but hasn't received much hype this year (injured much of year) won't produce big combine numbers and maybe, just maybe. Be nice to see him bookend with Staley for the next decade. Sweed, again injure this year, but is acknowledged as best senior receiver and could fall this far. Balmer a talented D-lineman and there aren't a lot of them.

Comment: One other question that needs to be asked. How did Warhop keep his job? He was fired by Parcells in Dallas. Parcells does not fire quality coaches. In '07, the 49er OL which they have invested heavily in Nolan's first 2 years was probably the most disappointing unit on the team. Did Warhop catch Nolan tapping his foot in an adjacent stall at the airport? How does Warhop keep his job?

Comment: Matt's writing makes me satisfied...it gives me very deep insight into the depths of the 49ers. It must be hard to be this deep in the bowels of the 49ers, seeing the girth of the 49ers problems. Can we come back hard this year?

Comment: Something we all can do (everyday) while Our 9er Guru recoups - VOTE PW '07 ROY. Sorry folks, (for being a pest with this), I don't want him to lose to a pretty boy RB who missed games. Patrick is the Iron Man and deserves the Crown. Patrick and Co also shut him down head to head. All of us, everyday, for OUR ROY - http://www.nfl.com/partner?partnerType=rookies

Comment: Matt, I'm glad you're taking some time off for awhile it's certainly very much deserved for the great work that you do for us 49er fans. But I have to say I think you created a monster with this frickin' "me first!" contest. Enough already, Cheers!

Comment: yes bragmans comment was worthless, as was yours, and now so is mine... Anyone catching the drift here?

Comment: Looks like the story-pirate Lenny Cheese Whiz Pasq over at espn.com can't even steal correctly anymore. On his tip sheet notes he says the 49ers made a contract proposal to Matt Hill, an OT with Carolina. Nice work, thief.

Comment: Matt: You left the most important date off the list for every 9er faithful out there. The due date for the 1st installment of 2008 season ticket payments. Here is hoping the price doesn't go up again.

Comment: Matt, before you go a quick question about your Nolan interview. His answers during press conferences always seem to be rambling and evasive. Yet he seemed very cogent and focued. Did you edit his comments or is he just better in one-on-one interviews? If so, why do you think that is?

Response: I did minor -- very minor -- editing. There was once when he started a thought with a couple words, stopped and said something else. Instead of including the superfluous words, I edited them entirely. Other than that, the transcript read exactly how Nolan spoke. The reasons it might have read differently than one of his press conferences? I don't know, other than I'd probably talk a whole lot different when I'm on the phone chatting with someone as opposed to being in front of TV cameras and a room full of reporters with less-than-pleasant questions being asked. --Matt M.

Comment: It is a real shame that the 49ers name has been sullied by the recent news of Dana Stubblefield.

Comment: Does anyone know where I can find a suit like the one Nolan wears? My friends and I watch him on Sundays and are blown away, like something Greg Kinnear would wear.
